  1. Hi TWS, we do keep seeing bursts of snow though in amoungst this sleet, as heavyer stuff moves in surely it will fall as wet snow or snow rather than just sleet? I can still quite clearly see snow flakes flyinf past my window in whitubrn.... big ones too
  2. Well just watched weather view nd its looking promising from the BBC's point of view, a band of snow showers moving through the region tomorrow lunch-late lunch clearing the region before dark leaving scattered showers behind it, sunday more snow showers same with monday quite widespread on sunday before heavy snow on tuesday! all to play for me thinks!
  3. well ive just walked the dog, th eminute i step outside the front door the shower ended and turn back to a sleety light rain. As soon as i come back in its coming down good and proper again outside! :/ guna stay in doors me thinks
  4. Wel was proper heavy snow last night, but as the day has wore on its become more sleety. Now as this band of showers came in initiallyit fell as sleet or wet snow accelerating the thaw but now huge flakes coming down! After next week is finished i can see me needing to dig my way out my front door  perfect sledging conditions today and i dont think ive ever made a better snowball! lol
  5. snowing moderatly here been so for thelast 30 mins or so
  6. TWS you dont expect this 10 or so centimeters of snow to thaw tomorrow do you? So when the snow comes in tomorrow night it will just top it up ?
  7. Im quite suprised you havent got it tbh, im right at the coast and we have obviously saw the brunt of the showers. Stockton is a bit to far south last night to have seen very much but that band of heavy ppt looks like heading your way, look at the meto radar to see how far it is from ya, it should give ya a decent spell of snow. Yep, warning out from metoffice for heavy snow here tonight and tomorrow am bring it on
  8. Drive up to sunderland ! , more like hail showers atm or fine fine snow, im just excited to see further progress in accumulations tomorrow
  9. Well! I must say im suprised how much snow we have, like TWS says 12cm! Very impressive! Melting slightly but showers plentiful to ensure thaw doesnt affect our totals! Hopefully lots more snow to come over the next few days! I will be happy with 12cm every night lol which means by the 5th well have 60cm of snow ! SM06
  10. snow falling at the coast now this increases my confidence for snow falling overnight tonight giving accumulations fingers crossed
  11. Well this upcoming cold spell is now looking awesome for us here in the northeast. Slowly turning colder tonight, maybe the odd heavy shower giving some people fresh snow cover. Then things start to get interesting Tomorrow night and into New Years Day; http://69.16.188.140/c9s4a5k3/cds/gfsimages/gfs.20091230/12/45/ukprec.png?dopvhost=charts.netweather.tv&doppl=0b94b8d440af13ca40ff139a913a18c5d42a9d49&dopsig=29aed81a24e30d6c6fe3c11f856a57fb http://209.197.11.108/c9s4a5k3/cds/gfsimages/gfs.20091230/12/45/ukmaxtemp.png?dopvhost=charts.netweather.tv&doppl=0b94b8d440af139540ff13c5913a189a40ff131a&dopsig=e7fe706a7ff53c6a698f1f603482ac04 One thing still of concern to myself is these temperatures for the coast being projected by the GFS, they may make things a tad marginal at the coast which is causing some concern for myself, but dewpoints possibly to the rescue being sub-zero... http://209.197.11.106/c9s4a5k3/cds/gfsimages/gfs.20091230/12/45/ukpaneltemp.png?dopvhost=charts.netweather.tv&doppl=0b94b8d440af131f40ff134f913a180440ff137a&dopsig=9aa731b09bf7cf921d158fd4c2ca2456 During the last cold spell the GFS forecast our temperatues quite well in comparison to the METOFFICE, so with surface temperatures bordering 3 or 4 things could turn marginal at times. But if things are on the right side of marginal i can see us doing very well over the next week or so, very well indeed, maybe i will have to attach a snow plough to the front of my car. I personally have never experienced cold lasting this long, just want the foot of snow now to get all my exams cancelled in January ! SNOW-MAN2006
  12. Well i suppose id better put a punt in! Cold- Very Cold First week or so, but i does seem likely to warm up in the second half of the month.... :/ so ill go for 2.4 Please SNOw-MAN2006
  13. maybe the past week or so is just a small taster of whats in store for us next weekend, snow ploughs at the ready!!!
  14. I think we are quite lucky in the esscence that this forecast snow is coming overnight, so we do have the advantage of it being generally cooler anyway, even if temps are at 2 or 3 degrees snow can still fall at these temperatures, just because it isnt sub zero doesnt mean its going to rain, i think a few people may be suprised tomorrow, santa is bringing some luck to the NE tonight i can feel it in my bones! 15. Darlington Durham Hartlepool Middlesbrough Northumberland Redcar + Cleveland Stockton-on-Tees Tyne + Wear Widespread Icy Roads & Heavy Snow 1800 Wed 23 0300 Thu 24 Outbreaks of rain and sleet will turn to heavy snow for a time giving falls of 5cm widely, with locally as much as 10cm. There is also a risk of rain, sleet or snow falling onto frozen roads and paths causing widespread ice. The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the Highways Agency for further advice on traffic disruption on motorways and trunk roads. Issued at: 1450 Wed 23 Dec
  16. OMG! Look at this mornings charts... STUNNING!!!! The GFS has certainly been hinting at a cold horizon again, and now its suggesting the cold never really leaves us, the 6z run never lets temperatures from the midlands north ever get above 5 degrees. This is a stunning run with lots of snow potential for sure! Im glad i bought a new hat scarf and glove set yesterday, judging by these charts its guna be money well spent.... maybe people should start investing in snow ploughs for the front of their cars lol (sorry mods had to fit in a ramp somewhere ) As for xmas snow.... some snow into morning xmas eve looking likely topping up snow amounts for some... with a few snow showers hugging the coasts overnight... but the greatest chance of snow on xmas looks for southern scotland and northern england as a band of rain/sleet/snow runs into the cold air over these regions in the evening, will be quite nice if this verifies, sitting with my beer watching a xmas film with snow falling outside... ahh if only
  17. Whilst that might be correct, id prefer even 6 inches of snow for 2 days than a week of cold weather with 1cm of snow ontop of thick ice. I know there is plenty to come over the coming months, feb and march always deliver.... but id much prefer not to freeze my dog biscuits off for a week with a measly amount of snow to show for it... i think this is the dissapointment factor with quite a few people.
  18. Well today ive finally plucked up enough courage to brave the shops for my christmas shopping and god it was bitter out there! The first thing i bought was a hat and scarf! As for the snow cover i must admit those areas exposed to the sun have saw the highest thaw, but sides of trees and lamposts that where exposed to the northerly wind during Saturdays Snow still have snow on them where the sun has failed to penetrate, shwoing just how cold it really is. Thick ice everywhere where all the snow has been compacted now... Still dissapointed from saturday though.... thank god we had our snow streamer on Friday evening to yeild us something out of this cold spell orselse we would of had very little snow fall! The cold spell so far has not produced anything spectacular in terms of snow fall but the main source of appreciation from this spell has to be the length the cold has persisted and the length of the time the snow cover has remained. These shady areas could retain snow cover even through to the end of this cold spell which will be pretty spectacular, just wish we had more in the way of snow fall to keep things interesting... :/ SNOW-MAN2006
  19. well whilst we had some pretty intense snow here, it simply hasnt added much to the snow streamer last night, infact it was a rather wet mix starting to melt the snow, now everywhere is like and ice rink!
  20. omg! what a suprise, today i was in my car and i thought hmmmm a dusting is all we are guna get out of this.... by the coast and nosnow forecast until tomorrow, then tonight came and the showers kept coming and coming, now a heavy cover on the floor! Crazy Stuff!!! Cant wait until sunday when we should double whats already here, so happy:D
  21. Similar to the old man that did th eweather last night, cant remember his name but he always talks sooooo slow but he talked about the weekend then went "ahhh and then theres monday to come" in a rather evil manner to finish off his forecast.... :/ lol And why is it so quite on here recently, every one out building snowmen, this topic has gone from a post a minute to a post an hour in the space of 2 days !
  22. These showers look like missing the majority of middlesborough north i think.... winds now northerly... and showers have now stopped moving in off the sea, i cant se that big batch of heavy showers hitting anywhere north of midds...
  23. Heavy Snow 1600 Thu 17 0800 Fri 18 Snow showers will become heavy at times and lead to some significant accumulations during Thursday evening and overnight into Friday morning, with 5 to 10 cm expected in places, and as much as 15 cm over some hills. The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the Highways Agency for further advice on traffic disruption on motorways and trunk roads. Darlington Durham Hartlepool Middlesbrough Redcar + Cleveland Stockton-on-Tees Tyne + Wear Issued at: 1326 Thu 17 Dec just released....
  24. Saturday is guna be our only real chance at a widspread covering.... snow showers still piling it but i fear these will die out later bar the odd stray one, and snow showers currently not hanging around long enough to accumlate very much
