  1. Thanks for the warning Ian. Now just 0.9c here and the fog has finally rolled back and left a winter wonderland. The trees look strange all white against a blue sky. Not looking forward to tomorrow if it's going to be only ice Attached some photos
  2. Well we can be sure of one thing...it will be a skating rink out there in the morning I'm getting the tarpaulin out tonight and covering the car up as I don't fancy spending all of tomorrow morning, chipping frozen rain off the car. It was -7.2c this morning at 7am and now at 11.30am it is still -3c with drifting freezing fog. But it is so beautifull went you get out into the sunny spots as everything is white!
  3. The BBCi player works OK on Countrytracks. Looking great if you are in the S.E, we just seem to be clipping the showers, but then he mentions that it may sink south, so the Sea and the French will get it instead
  4. At least we in the West country can still have access to snow even if it does not fall in our backyard. We went to the Brecon Beacons yesterday up by Storey Arms and there was at least 4inches of snow and 6 inches higher up. The snow was quite frozen so quite good for sledging but now falling into! The wind had also made strange patterns in the snow and further up, there was rime on all the blades of grass sticking up through the snow so with the low sunlight it looked really beautifull. By 4pm the temp was down to -2c so we called it a day. But it's worth going up there just for the views
  5. We had a rain shower an hour ago. Went into the garden and almost fell on the floor as it was SHEET ICE! Watch out our there
  6. I'm thinking of getting in the car, going accross the Severn bridge and paying £5.40 just to see some snow.......but that would be a bit sad...wouldn't it?
  7. Thanks for all your info Ian. Glad to know that there is still a cold spell expected. The other forecasters keep pointing out how mild it is in the SW!
  8. Just starting to get big fat flakes of snow here! Temp is now 3.1c. But not holding my breath for anything to come of it as I've just watched the local forecast on BBC1 and they have said RAIN all the way and the snow event for New Year's day has 'disapeared' (her words not mine). Looks like this new cold spell won't be happening at all
  9. Trying to sleet here, but temp gone up to 3.4c from 2.9 earlier. Just a pity that yesterday was not a cold dry day, then all of this rain would have been snow But I'm sure the general public are glad that it's not too bad. Wether or not that changes later....we'll have to see
  10. Just heavy rain here since 7am, eased off a bit now. Temp 3.1c (57m)asl..Edit, temp now 2.9c so it is dropping. Lets see if the next batch gives us a bit of snow, even if it doesn't settle. I'm more interested in the New Year snow as we are supposed to go to a vintage bus show and we don't really want to take ours out in slippy snow!
  11. It must have rained in the night as this morning is even worse! Temp is 2c but there is thick white ice on the roads and pavements and even the grass is slippery! I've got to go out in it to get my Turkey for Xmas as the shop closes soon! What a dilema!
  12. Freezing fog here. Temp - 1.5c, very slight southerly breeze, might clear it later?
  13. Richard Andgwin has called.......a wet green Xmas This must go down in history as the closest we have come to a white Xmas and missed!
  14. Tiny little flakes just started here from a grey heavy sky. Richard Angwin said there may be flurries over Bristol and Bath but they won't amount to much. He was more concerned about ice tonight, and then ended the forecast with "Temperatures should be higher to help a thaw" Driven down to Yate earlier and there seems to be a lot more snow down there and the roads are not as clear. Also heard there is chaos at the Mall in Cribbs due to people abandoning their cars....fun shopping tonight then?
  15. Hi Mattster1, Yes just up the road from you. And I thought I was the only weather nut around here Lets hope these showers move a bit further north tonight. Hope the MetO have got tomorrow's rain wrong as well.
  16. Just clear and cold here -1.2c. Not a cloud in the sky, might go for a drive down the M5 later, But anyhow, went to the Brecon Beacons this afternoon and lots of snow there
  17. The breakfast forecast only shows RAIN for tonight Just be very carefull on Sunday morning as it will be an ice rink out there. I just hope they are proved wrong and it does snow I'd much rather have that, than widespread black ice <_<
  18. Well that's it then, rain for us in the South for Xmas....as usual
  19. Listen to Bristle boy. He talks sense! Look for the trends not the prozac inducing runs. It's gonna be cold at least once or twice this winter. The best cold 'attacks' always come out of the blue!
  20. Just pray that in the future some nutter does not get hold of some nuclear bombs and decides that the only way to save the planet is to let it off and cuase a nuclear winter and stop the industrial world in its tracks
  21. We now have a flash warning of heavy rain in our small area Not surprised as the rain has been going round and around all day long, hardly moving but lots of strong winds around. Image if this was snow
  22. Rain on and off all day. One minute it's bright then it's really dark and depressing. Only 6c and we seem to be stuck under a pin-wheel of clouds, just going round and round and round.
  23. This feels and sounds like October 2000. That was a scary night!
  24. Getting quite gusty around here. The wind is roaring in the trees and our TV ariel is trying to break free from the chimney stack, creaking like mad. Glad I locked my chickens up
  25. Camping holiday in the UK here we come! B)
