  2. UK Outlook for Saturday 6 Nov 2010 to Monday 15 Nov 2010: Remaining unsettled with outbreaks of rain or showers at times. These will be occasionally heavy, particularly across western upslopes. This rain is likely to turn to snow over the hills of Scotland but also to lower levels at first. Best of any drier weather is likely towards the south and east of the UK, where there is likely to be some sunny spells at times. Winds are likely to be strong at times, with gales along the coasts. Temperatures will generally return to average or perhaps slightly below average in the case of the far north and it is likely to feel chilly compared to recent days. Risk of overnight frosts across the country, particularly in the north. Updated: 1200 on Mon 1 Nov 2010 http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html
  3. Summary Swirling autumn leaves, but little frost Nature has been putting on its own colourful display ahead of bonfire night. This autumn's combination of sunny days and cold nights has been perfect for developing strong leaf colour. Over the next few weeks of course, the trees will be transformed to bare skeletons and that process is likely to be hastened by strong winds as a succession of Atlantic depressions roll in from the west. There's little sign of any significant wintry weather in our monthly outlook, in fact those Atlantic winds will bring unusually mild weather at times. Monday 1 November 2010 to Sunday 7 November 2010 Windy and surprisingly mild Once the southwesterly winds crank up later on Monday, they're in for most of the week, reaching gale force at times in some exposed areas. As a frontal zone waves northwards and southwards across the country, so the areas of wettest weather change, but western upslopes are likely to see the highest totals. Very mild air to the south of the frontal zone has potential to produce daytime temperatures in the high teens and some exceptionally mild nights, while cooler air makes occasional inroads across the north. That's more likely at the end of the week, as the weather patterns begin to move southwards. Monday 8 November 2010 to Sunday 14 November 2010 Turbulent weather begins to ease It will be windy at first with the risk of gales, with the possibility of severe gales in the south and west. Thereafter, a change to quieter, drier and brighter conditions is expected, although showers are still likely, especially in the north and west, with the driest conditions in the south and east. After a mainly mild start, especially in the south, temperatures are likely to drop to near normal, with some snow just about possible on the Scottish Mountains. Monday 15 November 2010 to Sunday 28 November 2010 Less rain, lower temperatures The westerly airflow is expected to become lighter during the second half of November, allowing the weather to settle down a little. Rainfall amounts should decrease as a result, especially across the east of England and the southwest of the UK. Temperatures are expected to start above average, but then to ease down towards the late November average of 8 to 10C later in the month. Next week Next week's monthly outlook will take us into the early days of December, but will it be a mild or wintry start to the final month of the year? http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/10209

  7. Storm Forecast Issued: 2010-10-31 23:00:00 Valid: 2010-11-01 00:00:00 - 2010-11-01 23:59:00 Regions Affected S + E Scotland, N England, Midlands, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland (the remainder of the United Kingdom is included in the WATCH) Synopsis On Monday, the United Kingdom is situated under a ridge of High pressure as a result of the positioning of deep areas of Low pressure "Yentl" and "Wanda" situated to the southwest of Iceland and over Scandinavia respectively. During Monday a series of weather fronts approach the British Isles from the Atlantic associated with "Yentl". Particular attention is turned to the trailing cold front where there is reasonable agreement for a convective line to develop later in the day. Generally, the cold front is expected to increase in activity as it crosses Ireland during the afternoon hours, with the convective line forming from around 16z onwards over C + E Ireland as it continues to move eastwards. During the evening hours the convective line is then forecast to continue moving eastwards into southern Scotland, Wales, northern and western England, to a line from The Humber - Portland by 0z. The convective line/cold front is likely to be accompanied by strong, gusty winds and an increased risk of a tornado developing. There is a good chance for thunder and lightning to occur in places, with small hail possible in any heavier downpours. Current thinking is the convective line will weaken and rapidly decay as it moves across East Anglia and SE England during the early hours - beyond this forecast period. The most favourable conditions appear to be over E Ireland/S Scotland/N England. http://www.ukasf.co....orecast/id-357/

  11. 30% Chance of a white Christmas White Christmas Forecast Issued: 2010-10-30 23:00:00 Next Forecast: 2010-11-05 22:00:00 Synopsis This update brings a slightly reduced risk for pretty much everyone for Christmas Day. Recent long range charts have favoured a more milder pattern on the big day. Although nothing especially mild , the chance of snow at the moment doesnt seem likely apart from maybe higher ground in the North. A few runs have suggested a cold and perhaps wintry Christmas day though it has tended back away from this compared to previous updates. Should the current pattern the models predict come off, bands of rain or showers are possible as well as sunny spells, perhaps prolonged. Coolest temps most likely the further East you are. Fairly mild in the South West given the current prediction. http://www.ukasf.co....dule-christmas/
