There is more rain in the forecast which would just be viewed as usual autumn weather if Storm Babet hadn't drenched parts of the UK.

After storm Babet's deluge, the UK was still grappling with 116 flood warnings at dawn this morning. Despite a quieter start to the week, low pressure will persist, heralding more rain and wind during the coming days.

Storm Babet has caused widespread flooding across the UK, with a red alert in force today for parts of Eastern Scotland. There will be a respite from Sunday, though concerns remain for further rain and potential flooding next week, as low pressure stays in charge of the UK's weather.

Parts of eastern Scotland are seeing severe flooding, the rain is easing here for now but will return tonight. Elsewhere, large parts of northern England, Midlands and Wales will also see a risk of flooding as persistent and heavy rain lingers here through much of the day. Rain eases over the weekend, mostly dry by Sunday.

The rain has arrived and the winds are strengthening. For Thursday it will be Scotland bearing the brunt of Storm Babet but there will be heavy rain and showers elsewhere with more to come on Friday.

A danger to life Red Warning has been issued this morning by the Met Office for extreme rainfall over parts of eastern Scotland from tomorrow, leading to life-threatening flooding, as Storm Babet moves north. Also amber and yellow warnings in force for rain and wind for much of northern Britain.

Some will have seen their first grass frost of the season this morning, marking the end of the exceptionally warm start to October. High pressure promises a mainly dry start to the week, but it won't last with more rain on the way by midweek.

Some colder weather is moving down from the north during this weekend, finally breaking the warm weather across the south of the country. It'll be cold enough for some snow over the Scottish mountains for a time, with ground frosts becoming quite widespread as well.

There will be downpours into Tuesday with blustery winds picking up. Western Scotland will see a wet few days later this week. Then heat from Spain will surge up from the south giving a warm weekend.

There'll be exceptionally warm temperatures for the time of year affecting much of western Europe during the coming days, but that warmth will only graze the UK for now. Next weekend may see a more direct hit with the potential for southerly winds to draw some of that heat north and take temperatures into the mid or high-twenties.

September will end up as another unusually warm month, and there will be some further warm, sunny spells to come as it draws to a close. Another bout of rain will be moving up from the southwest on Saturday, though.
