All this potentially means is a -AO.
The form horse would be for the Trop PV to move into Canada and the States firing up the jet and leaving us under zonal conditions.
That's the spirit!

You make the mistake of discussing the actual weather. This thread is only for discussing the weather in the models
No mistake (been here long enough) the argument has been that the weather depicted in the models hadn't arrived, but it has. And that depicted yesterday is happening right now. Its perishing, no doubt about it and the models show that continuing for a good while yet.

Extremely confusing on here at the moment …. Talk of a breakdown 7/8 days away is nuts the cold not even got here yet
To be fair I don't understand this either, it's been cold since Friday last week, snowed Monday and frosts several nights.

yeah but 7 degrees still on Tuesday according to that!
You need to watch/listen to full forecast. It would suggest they are not paying too much attention to GFS...

This is how things have changed!
It was only a week ago people were saying that for the south it would be mainly dry and because of the DRY air and being a high pressure, they didn't see much in the way of snow. Also for the fact that the upper temps were not forecasted to be as cold as this and so widespread.
Now look what's happened!
This is under a high pressure and it's much colder than first thought just a week ago
Indeed, Tight Isobar and others were correct, snow flurries here. Same bone dry nonsense comes out every year.

You've basically got one week to top up your oil tanks, log stores and freezers.
I thought 168/24 was 7, some Charlie was posting that it's 9! Glad I didn't order my coal on the back of that!

My local weatherman on Twitter describes the upcoming spell as “standard winter fare” and the temperatures forecast online back this up.
That's what I'm after, no mild dross to speak of, as has been said the added interest extends beyond that...

Great summary as usual, the big plus is cold starts at day 8 on ECM!....Lets see where it sits in the pack, It would be a Rummon (as we say around here) if it's on the mild side!
It would be a rummon boy!

Likely outcome 12 days out? Not sure about that. A possible outcome maybe.

Actually Jan 1987 has one exceptionally cold week, the rest of the month was mild wet and windy.
Sorry, that's not the case, at least not in Norfolk.

Starting to feel the same, can we even get cold/snow within Meteorological Winter? Maybe it should be rephrased "True Autumn" with November and March being called "The Winter Months"?
Sounds like the mo***n winter rubbish that used to be pedalled by someone on here. How many days in are we, oh yes 14...

Over many parts it will be, apologies wasn’t being location specific.
Will be? According to that frame, of that chart, of that run, of that day etc.

Shortwaves interupt and spoil any cold from the North. So away from the hills and Northern parts of the UK it'll be a chilly but dull affair.
You know if spoilers are on the radar now they will sure as heck be there anchored between Scotland and Norway at real-time!
Chilly but dull is just fine, bt let's wait and see...

Forget the cold/snow hunting for now, nothing is going to stop this current Atlantic onslaught.

Only worth looking forward to if we can get some actual snow!!! But we won't even get that!
Not too worried about snow in Autumn...

Haven't popped in for ages, just wonder if anyone has seen summer? In all seriousness, best in a long time, few half decent days then back to business as usual. Looking forward to Autumn...

Well cold nagging northerly seems to have been with us forever. Summer has arrived with a bang! Lunchtime walk in a fleece. Even when sun was shining last week, soon as it got late in the day, started to feel the chill.

Mid-March, standard. Was anybody really expecting it to be any different…??
This was never going to be more than a case of watching a few flakes fall, enjoy it for a few hours and back to normal the next day.
Not so, just driven across the country and pounding down. Not settling yet, but that will change as we creep towards evening.
