  1. some squally showers earlier, sleet, caul rain.. but first real snow shower just passing overhead - too wet n 'warm' to lie.. but theres a few more to come for NE Aberdeenshire and Moray by the looks of the radar edit: actually it is lying immediately on the grass..
  2. can't do a model summary, but did venture into MT earlier, 'twas already alternating between pessimism/optimism but being as everyone was talking 240+ I figured not much exciting (i.e. snaw, showing for South) - then I saw a chart that did show a brief possible northerly spell for NE Scotland this Friday (of course it wasn't mentioned in MT )..I also have no idea if it was just one run, or just a blip.. the overall consensus seemed to be pointing at getting cooler in about 10 days which of course is FI so I gave up and am also waiting for our Local Gurus summaries t.i.a.
  3. what a weird weekend. bonny extra snaw friday, cleared roads as needed Thurs/Fri but then on Saturday Mother Nature decided to throw a curve ball and freeze our last 2 sleet showers of the evening on impact.. hence we woke up to Black/All Ice, (private road = no gritters!) problem that we can't clear manually even if we wanted to (and we did).. so 8 hours later (4pm yesterday) we finally get car out after chipping away, no probs we've cancelled any Saturday plans already! come Sunday after all the work and sore back to boot we get (at last correctly forecast) winds we can get out but somehow missed the pretty snaw sculptures (RIP!!) and still nae fitba, we're now at about week 16 with no football .. severe withdrawal would be going on here if there hadn't have been a tennis match today (pah!) or a few games of Basketball
  4. am at about 3pm in thread time, enjoying all the pics loving them Snaw Boots OTR! we had snaw in one shape or form from 7am til about 2pm when it started to turn to rain, but have thouroughly enjoyed this cold spell - 12 days in total and strange wind directions to suit so Happy BurnsNight ....& completely off topic here's one for the girls..
  5. beautiful, I can hear the silence from your description & pics.. wellgell
  6. I'm pooped! have cleared and chatted, and chatted and cleared, .. that's another bit I love about snow, the community spirit - I've spoken more to the neighbours this last week than .. seems like forever am all gossiped out, well room for a bit more on Friday mebbees New snow measure this morning 24 hours after measuring at 15-20cm yesterday morning the total depth now measures at 27-30cm.. well it did at 10am.. perhaps a couple more had fallen since then, some impressively thick showers this morning, a few lighter ones this afternoon, though they may not have added to depth due to compacting etc.. the snow that fell this morning was the first I saw of the "continental, fluffy stuff" so bonny! Now I've sat and worked a phone shift, ma bodies achin' - is it too early for a dram? oh and although this is a wee bit late, I did see the latest "snow bomb" (news called it that this morning) to hit Exeter was unforecast again, and that Exeter have resorted to nowcasting via Facebook.. oh the irony..
  7. Quite an impressive snowfall since teatime yesterday, now shrouded in freezing fog, Though strangely enough there has still been a few snow showers @7am even though it's foggy! The daylight has brought a beautiful, picture postcard, scene with pure white trees and snow clinging to everything, at a guess I'd say the depth has increased about 8-10cm, will measure it later.. it's so quiet and on a walk up through the trees the lower branches of the scots pine have formed perfect shelters.. nobody has started clearing roads up here yet so it's that moment of "perfect" before the mess starts Enjoy peeps, and here's to the showers that may crop up today, and to the next 'event', which sounds a but messier?.. but that's a few days away yet!
  8. Agreed not a lot of time! although I work from home and in the past would have had to drop the shift, half an hour into it, to go collect .. (although work are good like that, were the kids are involved) - this time I didn't have to as jnr is now at Academy, so I just had to make sure he didn't make the dog bark when he came in.. which I was able to do by text.. also no evening work for me because schools are closed soo off to rescue the Ice marbles, which are not freezing yet snaws on again now too..
  9. All of us Kilters clubbed together for your house-warming (or cooling ) PS: Ravelin, I'm sure you know already but Schools here have closed for the day - 2.00pm twas fair dinging it doon for a couple hours, but stopped since jnr got home .. typical..
  10. Hi Catch would put together a gif for you, but no time.. from what I can see your area, is clear and you may be done or at least not expecting very much more 'cept snizzle, the band from NE England skirted around you's and merged with what is over Perth/Dundee anything trying to get inland towards yous seems to be fizzling out not far after it hits land... I'm nae quite sure but think that the low coming in from Ireland has pushed everything up a bit.. somebody can probably be more technical about this
  11. Yep going by the radar it's the last fling, really heavy thick flakes here "at home" too, Started with a bang last Monday.. out with a bang today just took some pics few mins ago during the heavy stuff, ... note the obligatory picnic bench, which can't quite rival the borders snaw, but really considering all the graupel and snizzle in previous days it's nae a bad accumulation!
  12. Morning All, at last some proper snaw.. well at least some overnight, as just cleared couple inches of windswept drive it's still snizzling/sleeting here but the wind has done it's thing and mostly all local back roads are closed either due to drifting or accidents around Inverurie/Oldmeldrum/Dyce/Blackburn especially - main A96 has it's problems too "Keith to Tyrebagger" per news .. local news reports stuck lorries in a couple places along this route B-in-law in Alford can't even find car! bit of exaggeration, but I think perhaps not so much - and it's still dingin doon big flakes according to him finally got out ruler and admit to not knowing which bit of garden should have level snow given the wind direction and effect being unusual - but 15-20cm is the average, front of house is so sheltered from the east that we still have snow on the bushes and hedges too be safe everyone (specially SS & CMD) and enjoy!!
  13. indeed, something is conspiring.. but traffic cams are still working (so far anyways, tho' I probably just jinxed them too!) Tyrebagger (A96 @ Blackburn) edit: added updated pic
  14. maybe they need to go and brush the snaw/ice off their LNB's ?
  15. PS: it's snowing lightly.. and it's nae graupel )
  16. dinna want tae jinx anything - but finally decided to do a wee stock up on "essentials" today.. was surprised looking at the trolleys that no-one else seemed to be doing the whole bread/milk thing.. but then I looked at my own trolley full of wine, beer.. yea the essentials.. but at least I had a packet of dried milk too! on the way home hubby asked if I was sure we were gonna get some proper sna' soon.. I replied, "no of course I'm not sure, no-one else is either..but this is reverse psychology.." - Him: "ermm OK then, so it'll be soon?..." me: "Hopefully if this goes to plan!, if not at least we've plenty beer so you can drown me out when I start to chortle at "that weather forum's" jokes & TOORPing (he already knows what that means ).. Good Luck peeps tonite and tomorrow both..
  17. Just checked rota and not on 'til 1pm tomorrow so I may keep an eye out for a few hours yet... tho' could be a long wait up here
  18. 'cept this time it's just a tad more NE'ly too - #ikeephoping
  19. Evening all, glad to see everyone's having fun sledging, building snaw-mannies etc.. Our cover has remained and has gone powdery, I discovered today that it is quite uneven depths around the house, which I presume was from the wind - the Doghouse roof, which is my favoured usual measuring spot has about 5 cm, but in places in the garden there's about 8-10 cms - the doghouse is shaded a bit from the E/SE winds!! but even with the depth it's nae good snaw for building s'okI did an Igloo in 2010 ... it's gone all powdery with the cold and we've had a fair bit of graupel since Monday too but darnit all .. I wanted to play too - and remembered an idea I saw earlier this year that I thought might be fun to try - PT1 was fun, I only covered me and snooz.jnr in red water once!! - now I need cold to keep them, the water balloons are buried ootside... here's what they should look like when done.. if they work I've got before pictures and will take more after Wednesday or so.. depending on how cold it gets ICE MARBLES!!
  20. Dry & Cold here too, that yr.no satellite was bang on and snow/gaupel showers died out at about 6pm, with just enough to lleave a fresh covering on cleared driveway currently: 1*C/-3.9*C DP can't quite decide if that band will even reach us, in NE, tomorrow am - looks like it could be a borderline situation again like Friday/Sat, but here's hoping eh found this on a mosey through the S.English threads (was trying to gauge how far north the front had got) the "Murrometer" Snow Scale What we had Friday/Saturday was alternating between 5 and 6, with one 7 shower yesterday lunchtime perhaps we could modify this, Kilty fashion, Cheggars, SS?
  21. BBC's '63 Big Freeze summary.. a: here's the video b: watch from 42 mins.. for the best bit "english don't wear enough clothes" (Scotland had already had 50 days +) c: (very forward of her) d: 42.52 "Black Woolly Pants!!" e: 43.26 The Analysis - that tune..
  22. worth more than a like... still haven't got to the end of the thread.. but I really really laughed out loud at this one, ma favorite tune has just been given a new meaning
  23. sorry if this is posted already as I haven't got to the end of the thread, but - BBC2 right now has Weather Watch featuring - Big Freeze of '63
