  1. Quite frequent showers here, but still mainly graupel, maybe a cm or so new covering, maybe we'll get more snow as these uppers cool..... but Alford has had snow proper and it's still snowing so maybe that's an option for yer sledging have a great day.. and the kids too
  2. possibe, been a few reports, hubby reports thunder and lighting driving home from work @4pm here I was reading that graupel comes from a "storm" (is that right, those that know) - there's lots of reports of that too (e.g. soft hail, snow pellets, polystyrene balls)
  3. Woop! looks like lots have got some have not and as stated earlier apart from thunder here just teeny graupel showers just had a longer lasting shower, but still all graupel.. no depth really ..'mon snaw, it's the weekend
  4. Hiya and Welcome fellow Aberdeenshire dweller! We are fairly much in a "nowcast" situation in that we weren't supposed to see anything from the front anyway.. yesterdays weather warning covered just about the whole of scotland except aberdeen (horizontal line across from there) & northwards - however that's all changed today and it now looks like we on this North east tip may get some of the convection of the North Sea.. just keep an eye on raintoday you can see the little blobs being blown NW.. some of them may reach you? ohterwise just listen in here and get up to the minute reports of changes in direction/intensity of things.. gonna be a exciting few days(weeks?) Hiya & Welcome! It was graupel, and there is a fresh covering, the wind has fair got up and when I just checked a minute ago it's now fine snow/sleet, hopefully just the start - temps still alittle on the high side 1.9/0.6 DP although the wind chill is bloody caul! Was in Aberdeen earlier this evening and it was much windier there earlier.. it's only just got up here in the last hour, Busy day, no more horsin' around.. time for me bed, nite nite kilties and Good Luck for tomorrow!
  5. pushed back west but still with the N/S tilt, in my eye this means that we (IMBY) are now looking SE to see if any convection from the north sea can make it's way up here, haven't got to models yet either, but I think the tilt (well not a tilt more the top of the disappearing low), which should make the flow more easterly if it happens, should occur mid-late saturday Here's everyone's favourtite new site, Norwegian site link for Kemnay: http://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/Scotland/Kemnay/
  6. LOL enjoying the humour this morning, and these charts are even joining in, bringing the weather forecast to a photo finish Well it's Baltic here this morning, but not freezing about +1.5C - but I presume the balticness is the east air (block) which has moved west a bit also the norwegian site which was showing no snow for the NE until late Sunday, now shows it could start tonight, again I presume because of the shift westwards in the block? really busy today so no time to be in here today.. but this setup was/is just too addictive!
  7. You little[big] beauty!.. that was one of your preferred evolutions LSS, no? - So knowledgeable kilties, is this the evolution the one that is worth the frontal not fully getting here (East) because the block holds and retrogresses above us, the no pain no gain one (pain wrt watching the South enjoying all their snow on Friday LOL!) Am I right in thinking that this evolution is the one GP, Chiono et al have been hinting at before all the hype even started, i.e. LOOK NE, if the Scandi High & GH 'corridor' link up will that extend the cold spell by reversing the flow at this level.... or am I nae getting this still (likely!)
  8. METO warnings being upgraded.. parts of Eng & Wales now amber.. and twitter based weather peeps trying to get #snowmageddon trending.. think this has something to do with it: http://expert-images.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/2013/01/16/basis06/ukuk/rart/13011900_2_1606.gif
  9. Yea me too and that NAE chart is it still being too progressive? - thought we didn't really want it that far East too early so it can undercut in the best place for future East prospects..
  10. OOO err missus, am liking that, very tasty.... ...and the weather chart's nae bad either
  11. Where's mistyqueen, she's been looking for snaw - she should be the nowcaster for that... hope for her there is some snaw in it!!
  12. shouldn't think you need to trawl - surprisingly given the models there there is no TOORPING.. therefore trending neutral "Ken it Well" ka-tet - both Aberdonian and Stephen King's Roland Deschain in the Dark Tower versions LOL random reading post for the day: & LSS thanks as always for your calm thoughts and summaries!! Yep that would would be the right one.. & that would really throw them in the MT.
  13. Just in from parent taxi duty, and aye it's Baltic, -7 or so here.. but it's weird, not bone-chillingly freezing, nor even that "crunchy" underfoot.. because of the fog here it's very spookily silent and it's cold to breathe iykwim, Was stood waiting for lift earlier and I don't think I've ever heard the village so silent & those spooky white trees (snow still stuck on them) showing against the not quite dark, very weird sight
  14. Give poor LSS a break, he needs to "study" .. I'm sure he will be on when he's needed even without a pager he'll hear us all yelling meanwhile re NE & Scotland's "miss" : see: Steve murr's post - a Kilty translation of Steve's shorthand would be appreciated plz.. I can't find where Matt "et al" specifically refer to Scotland, and going by what I see in the charts (which may not be correct!) we are on the same line as Midlands (as pointed out earlier in this thread) - although I think I see the follow through logic of just being that little bit patient waiting for the more easterly continental flow a day or 2 later.. min these models are complicated, almost as complicated as interpreting terms/who to believe on the MT!! please & thankyou (said in a Gary Tank Commander voice)
  15. Sun tried to bravely shine through the Fog around 1:30pm this afternoon - advantage of height that I even saw this (village still shrouded!), but apart from that been a freezing fog day all day.. nothing to see here ... (literally!) I've no idea what's happening up here this weekend and beyond have read so many different views that my heids deitered.. PS: Hey Cheggars, BFT's random post of the day makes my wee adventure look tame eh
  16. Light fresh covering snow here this am, - freezing fog.. canna see ooot!! Weather Station gone off again, but app thingy says -2C.. and I can confirm it's baltic.. time to catch up with next batch now that now-casting is done for up here, have a good one kilties
  17. Watching the blob with interest... Nothing quite like now casting huh.. watching the traffic cams it hasn't stopped snowing over the Tyrebagger this evening, but we've had nothing on the west side.. in fact more thaw if anything.. this is our local climate separator working in reverse, it's well known that the weather can often be different on either side of that stretch of the A96.. but it's mostly the other way around you have Kilmalcolm as your location, but say you're 1m inland Aberdeenshire, is that North or South of Aberdeen or closest town please
  18. watch raintoday.co.uk.. the band to the east has already edged a bit closer to you.. Good Luck!
  19. very interesting situ over Aberdeen right now - your timing LSS was bang on for 4pm . The showers from the NW have now met (and merged?) with the front sitting just off to the east Abdn (it's currently snowing there now).. as to whether it will push back inland is all down to the Scandi... push!.. not sure the band will curl as according to the pressure chart the initial low is now down over NE England and a shortwave[??] is now split off and is sitting over the far NE Scotland (John O'Groats) so there's somewhat of a hourglass with the waist right over Aberdeen, which way will it go LOL! ..might just hold off long enough not to cause Rush hour chaos but sod's law say's naw.. depends on if the Scandi High wants to exert some more pressure soon at least that's my interpretation it could be completely wrong Temp 0.7/0.6 DP - lots more snow melt this afternoon, depth now 1-2cm
  20. can report, yes it's light snow that's making it's way down from Elgin/Huntly (NNW) though it's v.v.light! at least by the time it's reaching here.. It's not very fast I think is the new term courtesy of little Miss Edo - so let's call it snail pace the earlier depth of 5cm has now reduced to 3cm due to melt, and this what's falling now will not add to it ... right off to catch up with some real work.. then back later for our gurus' model summaries, if they've made up their minds yet haha! (models not gurus..)
  21. Oh Ravelin what a nightmare, should've checked the traffic cam before leaving it showed how bad the tyrebagger was about 8:45ish - they just didn't have a chance to clear it as traffic was already on it when snow was falling - days like this glad I don't have to move, O.H. was at work before it even started! anyway I'm just in and 'glowing' - 3 hours playing (well shielin') & socializing, feeling very healthy all neighbours driveways and hill is clear, we got it done just before gritter kindly came up by so all is good.. main roads too now look black and gritted, though I see the Tyrebagger is still slow moving should hopeful still be all right at coming home time PS: It's fab snaw-manny snaw! Temp 0.9c/0.6c DP wasn't expecting more until perhaps later/tomorrow am but what's that now coming in over the Moray Coast, NL? ETA: re: coming from Moray, think by looking at the Foundlands cam it is snow, shouldn't have too long to wait as Bennachie is shrouded again now too
  22. Well the front has cleared here as quick as it came, radar is showing some purple/blue echoes over Ellon so they must be in for some too? - wonder if it will stall over Aberdeen when it hits whatever that is that's been sitting there for the last few hours it came at just the wrong time for school buses/rush hour, was falling so fast that there are now reports of lots of stranded vehicles and school buses having to turn back http://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/closures/default.aspx it's cos you left and took your mobile shield with you! )
  23. Canna be far awa noo Kerwin, the rate it's accumulating here is impressive as Ravelin and Howham says, about 2"/4cm in the last hour! at 4:30am it was still freezing but very foggy, and it didn't start until an hour ago.. weird but pretty
  24. Michael I often find that the NAE at this scale does not get the pink/blue line quite right.. if they could draw a line along the Tyrebagger or through Northfield it would be a closer match.. and sometimes that line needs to fall on either side of IMBY, i.e TyreBagger or Glenns of Foundland - I've seen the usual Aberdeen/Peterhead tips in blue and them getting plenty snow.. so in short I never really pay much attention to the actual color split when it gets this close.. just sign in here, listen to LS and other nowcasts.. I don't think the first front will reach us even here in Kemnay, nothing scientific, just a feeling between temps, mountain shadow and the "downgrade" (which thanks to LS I think is an actually a "no pain no gain" upgrade for next week!) - if it does then so be it If we now believe the charts for Mon/Tue then Aberdeen will catch up.. keep the faith! We had very little more in the way of sleet/snow since I posted this morning, and our temp/DP had now risen back to early doors type 2.2C/1.8C though I see DP has just fallen rather rapidly to 1.1C in last half hour BUT even more disappointingly.. I was relying on the snow not quite reaching here until later tomorrow so we could get our Footie played and have just found out footie is off again but this time we get a bye other team's fault, Aberdeen City have called off all games on their City pitches AGAIN so it was waiting in vain.... so now on full snow watch with no reason to hold back anymore (have already written off next Sunday as we will be snowed in by then surely!! LOL)
