  1. Why can't people see that being closer to the sun than we have been for a while, could and will have an effect on our climate?.. Even worse... During our closest approach to the sun, during our now elliptical orbit, the North Pole, during winter, also points closer to the sun due to another wobble.

Now forgive me if I'm wrong here but getting closer to a flame means things get hotter.. I'm sure some will claim that this isn't part of a feedback mechanism and others will just dismiss this outright.

The sun also has a positive and negative phase in its cycles and its magnetic fields. The amount of heat that can be created by magnetic fields being in opposition is quite large on a small scale. This heat generated over the last several very active solar cycles will have taken time to show from the earth's internal furnace. Being closer to the source of the magnetic field will increase this effect... Always a lag on anything with the climate so repeated warming of the core would reach the surface eventually?

Closest approach is about 2012 so hang on to your underwear.. ;)

    Simplistic but yet obvious..

    CO2 lags temperature...

On a slightly different note. Repeated strong opposition on a magnet weakens the fields. This has been observed with our protective shield.

Forgive the question as I am ignorant in these matters - but why are we closer to the sun now? Is is phase that the Earth goes through every so often?

  2. Ummm, over this past year we have had...

Blue tit, Great tit, Marsh tit, Sparrow, Thrush, Starling, Robin, Black Bird, Barn Owl, Wren, Magpie, Crows, Sea birds of various types flying over, Yellowhammer (landed on the chimney), House Martin, Bull Finch and Chaffinch, Pigeon, Collared Dove and Rook...

Seen flying directly over the garden, Sparrow Hawk, Red Kite, Swallows.

    Heard, Woodpecker and Cuckoo.

Thats all that I can remember at the moment anyway!

Wow .. that is a lot -lucky you! I also have seen magpies and crows at the bottom of the garden (forgot about that)

  3. I have bats at the bottom of the garden - they must live in the huge trees there .. one evening I was donw by the decking calling my cats in and they literally started swooping around in the air above me - there was two of them .. quite small, but I have to say, I don't like them .. I wouldn't harm them but I don't like them. The though of them getting caught up in my hair freaks me out something rotten, although I know a bat has highly tuned senses and is unlikely to come anywhere near me!!! ;)

  4. Mostly starlings, and blue tits (next door neighbour has a huge broom tree which overhangs into my garden and the blue tits love it!) - also have a robin that hops about. Wood pigeons are often around, but not many blackbirds. I do have swifts that visit during the earlier months and they used to make a next in the eaves of the house but they didn't this year, for the first time.

I also have a flock of green parrots and sit and sqwark in the trees at the back of the garden as well!! Hardly ever see a sparrow though and I love those cheeky chaps!!

  5. Cats are difficulty to carry when clearing them from land which they don't belong. I can recommend the cat carrier as it stops one from getting scratched and bitten after its fitted

I trust they make them 'man' sized as well - much more useful than for cats! :)

  6. Yes and compromised because their lively hoods depend on proving GW is due to human activity. It is not irrelavant to point to the 70's as the source of alot of the mistrust. Despite some belief on this forum they were not important to the media. Oh yes they were. It was exactly the same as what is happening today. In fact - it was far more 'in your face'. The reality is that technology has advanced in a very linited fashion - the arrogance has not. Its exactly the same. This IS hard evidence as to how we should treat todays scare mongering. It would be highly foolish to accept the prognosis of a bunch of compromised people in relation to climate change. Im not prepared to accept this nonsense although some are. They cannot see beyond the tripe thats been in the mainstream media in recent years. I would go as far as to say the weak minded have accepted this as 'fact' despite the fact it is anything but........but they refuse to except an alternative view. This is because they have been minipulated into a fanatical view which is not consistent with reality.

It seemed very evident to the idiotic in the 70's too.

Of course nothing has really changed. Those on this forum which push the AGW line have little evidence in reality. Mostly its pushed from mainstream media (who themselves have little or no grasp of the real science behind it). They have been minipulated - there is no doubt about it. They should just admit it before the tide goes out on the whole AGW agenda. Public symphathy is becoming non existent and they will look like fools in 30 years time - same as those in the 70's. I certainly will be proved right about 'cycles'. Im happy about that but feel sorry for the others.

Very pompous Darkman - to think everyone who is of a differnt point of view is idiotic - however, let us hope that you are proved right for the sake of our children and their future children.

  7. I just don't understand why the concept of global warming is so strongly opposed .. it seems fairly evident to me, just by the temperatures of the seasons over the past years that something is occurring. The argument of whether it is man made or not is not the issue, the fact is we know that pumping filth into the atmosphere is affecting this planet, so why not do something about that - if the global warming is 'natural' then it will lessen its effects.

Until the Government implement a new Regulation re pollution, etc, and other countries follow suit, I can't see much changing in any event.

  8. Possibly, but it is in no way a criticism of last month's winning photo, simply a realisation that we're going to have to give criteria for the photos or we could end up with a calender at the end of the year with very little to do with weather on it. Many forums, magazines, tv programs have themes based on their content, and now we do. :)

But surely weather also relates to the months of the year, i.e. daffs for Spring and Mayblossom, etc - could that not be allowed? Will make it very rigid if it is explicitly weather related ??

  9. Cheers P.P.!

I hope more than you and me can be bothered to wade through it all!!

It takes less time to have a small 'Med' than to watch an episode of the simpsons and I'm sure most folk could find a bit of time a few days a week to try it out.

I may try that too - not that I watch the simpsons :cold: - My Sensei used to try to teach me to meditate when I was in class with him, but I found myself just sitting there, getting irritated at just sitting there doing nothing - al I could think of was "how LONG do I have to sit here with my eyes shut!"

However, I shall try again as I rarely chill out - I exercise aerobics most days and that relaxes me afterwards funnily enough, but even the Sensie told me that I never relax. Not good really. I shall try the apple scenario GW and let you know how I get on!! :cold:

  10. There's an old saying that if you would be free of enemies for the year, you should kill the first wasp you see. if you would be free of wasps, you should do the opposite!

Personally I loathe and detest wasps... but since I don't have any enemies, I'm stuck with them.

I have noticed the wasps and bees seem to be huge this year. *shudder*

Also as I walked to school with the little lords today I noticed a lot of Bluebells already blooming... I don't remember them flowering mid April before... aren't they usually May flowers?

My bluebells have all flowered at the bottom of the garden - not sure if it is about time or not though and regarding the wasps and bees - I have noticed there are wasps aplenty !!! I hate them, and worry in case one of my cats chases and snaps one up for lunch and gets stung in the mouth!! And yes the bees seem to be huge! I might have to invest in a fly screen for the french doors this year ...

  11. I saw one last year in the summer - flew over low and scared the living sh** out of me and my cat who happened to be out in the garden at the time. Also spotted one recently this year. So Bromley also is home to the heron!!!! :nonono:

  12. I think it'll all depend on the extension of the continental 'high' pressure. If it links with the Azores high for any length of time we could be in for precipitation deficits in the SE yet again and if it happens at the suns strongest then the cities will really find out what a' hot night' is!
