  1. I don't think the research is just 'hype' as the info is easily checked. Personaly it would not surprise me to find Global temps high over the next 12 months (doesn't instantly mean heatwaves for the UK though!). Lets see what the ice min. is in the Arctic this year and whether or not the polynya's open up again.

I agree Gray Wolf - I meant hype re the hot summer - I am definitely of the opinion we are globally warming to dangerous levels for the planet as a whole though - and yes it will be interesting to see re the Artic.

  2. My honeysuckle hasn't stopped flowering since last summer.

Mine stopped flowering, but now it is sprouting new shoots!!! Most things in the garden are still flowering to be honest and my grass will need a cut soon! Very strange - on Monday I sat out in the conservatory with shorts and a t-shirt on sunning myself! :unknw:

  3. i'm in Hammersmith, to the west of London and it's suddenly gone very dark again and from the look of the 2pm radar we could well be in for round two.

At 11am there was a flash of lightening then a big crack of thunder. It was torential for about 10 minutes with rain and hail but after that the sky cleared and that was the end of it until.....................?

It's gone very dark here as well at Holborn - when it happened, Sue and I were looking out of the window as the sky was so dark and I said to her that the weather cock was not moving, there was no wind out there -then we saw the sheet of lightening and the crack of thunder, and then there was torrential rain and hail (very briefly) - that was when it happened - how bizarre for London to have a tornado.

  4. Hiya,

As most of my summer plants are over/almost over I am wondering what I can put in their place for winter. Are there any plants that would be happy on the balcony in pots, or in the boxes I have hanging on the railings?

Are there any plants that would flower or look good in winter but also be over to use the pots again in the spring??

    Thanks in advance!

How about some winter pansies? I have put some in to brighten it up a bit

  5. I was a bit worried just before and during the weekend with the windy spell we had, cause most of the trees around here were still in full leaf.

But alas the storm soon took care of that and now most are bald as the top of my barnet B)

Mind you there are daffs poking up again.

My hebe is in full bloom (not sure if it is supposed to be or not) and my geraniums are still flowering as well!! Leaves are off most of the trees now (thank God! as most of them end up in my drive!)

  6. It definately seems longer this year, the bigger problem is the ground is so wet now that it is a very muddy job but it really does need cutting again hopefully this high will let the ground dry a bit so i can cut it. Concrete sounds a good idea on the face of it but then i might as well live in the city :D if i went down that route!

I know what you mean - so much rain and the grass is uncuttable really without hacking it up! Definitely seems to be growing longer for the time of year

  7. I remember that Autumn like yesterday. At the time I was at college and used to cycle the 2 mile trip everyday. I dont think there were many days when I didnt get wet! There was also a 6 inch deep pool of water at the end of the garden which was still there by February!

I also remember seeing the floods at York too. The car park close to the river Ouse was completely submerged by over 10 feet of water along with the nearby park aswell. Certainly an extremely wet Autumn which didnt help as it came after two wet years in 1998 and 1999. Somwhow it is ironic that only 6 years later we have drought problems in the south.

Yes and the hosepipe ban is still in place - not that we need a hosepipe for the garden now!

And water bills are set to rise by 70%!!!!

  8. I found this quite interesting this morning.

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest of course, but interesting nonetheless.

How corrupt can you get! This is what does not surprise me about the war as well which is really a 'non-required' war - war is money - money speaks volumes in their world; it's like saying "stuff the environment/peoples' health - we want our profits!"

  9. Not in a complex fraud case they don't! The judge is there to make sure that the evidence presented is relevant to the case, and he can, in extreme circumstances, choose to overrule the jury and go to retrial. Juries decide only in the context of the Judge's management of the process that allows them to make sound judgement. Oddly enough there is no requirement that jurors be of demonstrably sound or fair mind.

Mmm, reminds me of somewhere, mmmmm...

    Now, now, behave SF!!!!

I know how the legal system works as I am employed by barristers and QC's (bankruptcy mainly).

do better than that go to the BAS web site.

    John

    Cheers John ;)
