  1. I must have very weird cats then - all my lot go in one spot in my garden (pooh corner I call it) or in the one tray that is in the house at night, but like I said, I can sympathise with people having problems with it as one of mine started to use my new bit of lawn that had just been laid as a toilet - so that is when I bought the Cat Off product - which worked. She went back to pooh corner.

Not sure netting will prevent it - might even be a hazard for birds or squirrels getting caught up in it to be honest. But see how it goes - if it works, you could patent it!

I've said it before. The only sure fire way of getting rid of cats and their mess is to put a gallon a hydrochloric acid over the patio or slabs and prey for little moggie to come bounding along the said patio/slabs and bingoooooo...no more cat :)

    :)

hmmm, well let's hope you remember it is out there as well Mondy and don't happen to walk on it eh?

  2. 19 cats, I got 4 and that seems alot, I'd love more, the silver tabby I bought last year is besoted with me, follows me about, he's gorgeous, it's difficult to get kittens nowadays, I had to drive to Norwich to get the tabby, 2 years ago. And really expensive, I made sure he had all his jabs, he's got a booster this month. He's a v good boy when it comes to the vets.

As to you DAWLISH, I think you should rename yourself as dippy, drip, or a evil person, if you don't like cats then keep it to yourself, I'm sure if one of your terds got caught in the drain and the council came round they wouldn't like it, but I hardly think they'd suggest ways to mentally torcher or kill you. Plus, if youngsters read this website which I'm sure they do then they read your posts and that gives them ammunition to go and hurt animals. I get angry when I read that people shoot cats and dogs with air rifles or some people set those traps that shatter legs, all encouraged by people like you who instead of blurting twisted ideas should just say thankyou and appreciate the animals on this planet instead of finding ways to kill or mame them, or scare the crap out of them. Which it seems more and more people want to do nowadays!!

Well said Red. Most of my cats are rescue cats - my own four cats I had from kittens - Tia Maria is my pedigree Birman (seal point) and she is such a soppy girl, Bunty I bought from a petshop (I knew the owner well and he was a good man) ...I just asked if I could hold her for a while whilst hubby was buying the cat lit, and that was it - a match made in heaven (Bunty, not the hubby!) - she is a Heinz 57 but looks quite like a Norwegian Forest cat and I love her to bits - she follows me everywhere and she actually sleeps on top of me at night!! (I have pics of her on the gallery under Angel's photos), Misty was a white kitten I bought and she is now a lovely 11 year old girl, and Hunneybunney (properly known as Kleo Adouzbo) is a cream Burmese (very temperamental!). But all the cats I have are good boys and girls and to be honest, you would hardly know they were there at times - they go out into the garden through the catflap - or lounge in the conservatory. I don't have any kittens and my cats are mainly aged 4 to 12 (Toby being the youngest at 4!)

  3. Buy an anaconda. Maybe 2. I know I've said it before, but I reckon it would be a brill way to get rid of the furry pests (no offence to cat lovers, of course!).

    Paul

And of course the bird population would be down to nil as well as next door's little pooch!

I just use Cat Off from Homebase - I have 19 cats and they go in my garden in one part at the bottom but sometimes use the lawn in one particular place, so I always use cat off there and it seems to work! It smells of garlic and white pepper to be honest - but it seriously does the trick. (they hate curry powder too!) - just think what an aromatic garden you will have - flowers, curry, garlic, pepper!! :)

Give it a go hun and I am sure it will work - you have to reapply if it rains though (so you should be alright for the next month or so!!)

  4. And the lowest rainfall at only 25% of normal. That is something I could definitely believe - it has been very dry here. Grass is brown and soil is rock hard...

My lawned area in the garden has actually cracked in many places due to the dryness of it all - looks akin to desert cracking!

  5. Amazing photos!!! My favs (difficult to choose though) are:

    Shuggee 1

    Louby 3

    Louby 1

    Nick F 2

    Bobby Dazzler 1

I love Loub's bubble picture - really imaginative and unique !!!

Had to edit this as the bubble pic was just too good not to include!! "women's perogative to change her mind" .. and no there is nothing wrong with the one I have already!!!! :D

  6. Personally, i think that one of the criteria should be, does the planet have an atmosphere, while i do not think any of Jupitors moons should be classed as planets, i think that Titan should be classed as the twin planet of Saturn.

I think that is a good criteria - and a sensible one

  7. Ganymede is the largest natural sattelite in the solar system, it has a diameter of about 5300 kms and is larger than Mercury and Pluto

Titan has a diameter of 5150kms and is also larger than Mercury and Pluto and even has its own dense atmosphere and yet its not even classed as a planet.

This is where the trouble really arises

Do you think it possible, Mr Data, that there is micro-organism type life forms on any other planet?

  8. I don't water my lawn either - it stays green and when it is a particularly hot patch - or predicted to be - I make sure I don't mow it - that way it stays green, after all, you don't see people watering park grass do you :)

Also it is a lovely part of the garden and green is restful on the eyes and is known to be a colour you can relax with just by looking at it

    Remember ...

Sun is warm .. grass is green!!!! How soothed do you all feel now?!! :(

  9. Yes I was even wary about suggesting water pistols, because some horrible people have been known to use real guns. I'm not sure if a water pistol is fair really ... but I do know that if you're a keen gardener then cat poo can be pretty disgusting. I'd give the electronic thing a go perhaps. The idea of using another animal's scent is interesting: it's a way of scaring off foxes.

believe me I know - watre pistols are fine though - my cats use my garden and not the neighbours!!! They have a specific place down the bottom which I call Pooh Corner!!! And I am a keen gardener - love my flowers and I do know how cats can be a pain at times - I use Cat-Off which is like a pepper substance and it seems to work, only on the parts I don't want them to go on (if you get my drift)

  10. I know a good use for a cat, should you manage to catch it doing horrid things on your lawn. It will also help the cat owner, as they'll get their pet back clean.........

How To Clean Your Toilet - The Fun Way

Instructions on how to clean your toilet

    1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water in the bowl.

    2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

    3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids. You may need to stand on the lid.

    4. The cat will self agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this.

    5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a "power-wash" and rinse".

    6. Have someone open the front door of your home. Be sure that there are no people between the bathroom and the front door.

    7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids.

    8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom, and run outside where he will dry himself off.

    9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean.

    Paul

Not funny - in fact, is classed as cruelty; please can you not post stuff like that as it does encourage people to do stupid things along those lines and I am a member of RSPCA.

    Thanks

  11. I did plum tomatoes last year in the conservatory and I put them in GrowBags - got loads of tommies from the plants and they kept going right up until September!! I fed them with the tomarite stuff you can get and they seemed fine - also they did not suffer from pests (greenfly etc).

My nextdoor neighbout has particular success growing tommies and he told me not to water them too much - that way you get bigger tomatoes - well it worked - however I did give them a good drink every other day in the evening when the sun was low.

Anyway - good luck with them!

  12. Just a question though, as I truely dont know, what a shut down/slow down of the NAD cause less atlantic influence?

    Here you go ..

The warm waters of the Gulf Stream lose a lot of moisture through evaporation, making the sea particularly salty. In the North Atlantic, the heavy salt water becomes cold enough to sink, forming a deep ocean current called the North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW). The NADW acts as a pulling mechanism on the Gulf Stream, maintaining the direction and intensity of the ocean current, and keeping the climate of the UK and Northwest Europe mild. Scientists have shown that thousands of years ago the NADW shut down in response to subtle shifts in global climate. This slowed and diverted the course of the Gulf Stream to such as extent that the regional climate of the Northeast Atlantic became considerably cooler. It is now suspected that global warming may trigger a shutdown in the NADW, and a slowing or diversion of the Gulf Stream, which would ironically lead to colder climates throughout the UK and Northwest Europe.

  13. True .. I found this article which states that

It is now suspected that global warming may trigger a shutdown in the NADW, and a slowing or diversion of the Gulf Stream, which would ironically lead to colder climates throughout the UK and Northwest Europe.

So it could be a possibility, but is not happening yet.

..However, contrary to what I stated above, I have now found this, which says emphatically that the Gulf stream is slowing ..

  14. Up here, they've been out for at least 2 weeks..strange to say the least

Had a couple of pints in a nearby beer garden earlier. You guessed it..little wasp comes over to SEE IF HE CAN HAVE ANYTHING I'VE GOT <_<

I think there may be a problem with them this year as even the bees are out early and they are huge - I have seen a few wasps and they seem larger than the average wasp! I will have to get that insect netting stuff to put up at the windows.

  15. Although I cant say I have seen a lot of wasps or bees this year so far, the few I have seen do seem to be bigger than normal. Mind you, having said that, we had a bee and a wasp attack in one night during the rather brief hot spell last week due to the windows being open - and 2 in the space of as many hours does seem quite a lot - for the time of year, anyway.

I'm just dreading the yearly guarenteed train journey where I am wedged in a window seat with a wasp doing a merry dance headbutting the window next to me. Im breaking out in a cold sweat just thinking about it. *shudder*

My advice is MOVE if you are in that position and if the person next to you complain, just tread on his a*rse and make sure you have pointy heels on - I was in a carriage one year when a great fat bumble bee started buzzing over my head (back seat in the corner of the train) .. I just said "Scuse me.. NOW!" to the person next to me and got out of there - But is it a damn nightmare.
