  1. Definitely a finchy-type thing. It's the wrong shape for a canary.

I thought maybe that but this one definitely looks like a hybrid canary that I had once - and the beak is not as sharp and pointy as most finches - I first thought of a chaffinch, but its not that I don't think.

  2. The question to ask youself is - if man was not 'developed' and lived naturally as the animal population would do - would be be facing increased temperatures and fierce weather trends now, drought situations, etc. It is ludicrous to even think that we would. Of course man has added to the global warming factor in a major way - to deny that is not logical.

  3. I believe in precognition - one incident with me was when I was out riding on my horse Holly - it was getting late in the day, so I turned and headed for home. I decided to cut through a set of woods that we normally take which knocks about 30 mins off the trek home, but as I neared the woods, I felt very apprehensive and a bit 'sick' in my stomach. I stopped just outside of them and considered the matter and then decided to take the roads home instead. (Holly was nervous too but that was probably her sensing my body language).

Turns out that a person was attacked in those woods later that evening. So yes, I do believe in precognition, or maybe I was just lucky.

  4. Ah, the joys of a Flymo and a postage stamp sized lawn! done my 5 mins of hard labour and we're back to neat and tidy......

I need to do mine - but the flymo is set really low and I don't know how to adjust the grass cut height of it - my cats are making a muddy track down one side of the garden which is really starting to look odd as well! (and it is not even a straight line!!!!)

  5. I have a strange philosophy and discount 80% of the population as 'not of my world'. Many are damaged /disadvantaged by nurture, some by nature but all are not easily recognisable to me as 'human beings' (as some aboriginal Americans would have it ) they're just people.

A very peculiar view - however, I prefer the company of my pets to most humans also.

  6. Maybe we should have a poll regaurding parents and their feelings on climate change and singles/childless and their take on things. When I was without responsibilities I was far more reckless in both my opinions and actions and I suspect that it is the same with the nay sayers.

The more people start to hedge their bets/accept G.W. the more 'responsible' citizens they are. They can see beyond their own lives and , more inmportantly, need conditions then to remain favourable to our way of life (for their childrens sake). The singles don't give a hoot in the same way (cause they'll just be dead without anything 'carrying on'.

Well I don't have kids as I have never wanted them, and my next door neighbour is of the same ilk, but she is more Eco than me - I do care about our planet regardless of not having kids, so I think that statement was a bit too wide ranging GW - however, as I have said before, I totally agree with all you are saying and I do feel for the youths to come who will grow up in what will probably be quite a barren world if global warming continues to rise.

  7. I think what people are not quite grasping is the time delay between increased carbon dioxide levels and resulting temp hike. If it were a season you would not be surprised at the environmental delay in temps so why folk can't grasp the same of CO2 I don't know.

The rises we are experiencing has little to do with the far eastern (recent) inputs but all to do with our own past inputs. The planet has done all she can to mitigate the warming but to no avail and now she has thrown in the towel hence the 'step change' in temp regimes we are undergoing.

By the time the far eastern input has full effect it'll already be to late and all you'll see are the current ,conservative estimates, of future rises being upped and upped (which has already begun) as science plays 'catchup' with the reality.

    Couldn't agree more.

  8. I think anyone who denies that global warming is happening now has their head stuck firmly in the sand. It is obvious to any layman that it is warming up ... this year should prove very interesting - hotter than last year, more droughts - and it will become worse. If countries like China continue to pump out obnoxious gasses into the atmosphere, you can hardly be surprised when the Earth's climate as a whole changes. We are polluting this planet like no tomorrow, and no one will bother to take any real steps to address the situation until it is, of course, far too late.

  9. well i have sparked many a discussion on the subject, mainly because i am a firm believer in the fact that we are responsible for our climate. to what degree is debatable (for me) but whether it is a minute effect or massive effect. mankind is having an impact. (imo).

there is no swaying in my thoughts that the global climate is reacting to environmental issues such as pollution/carbon emmissions/greenhouse gases/rainforest depletion etc etc. and until these issues are addressed we (as in mankind) will never be able to judge just how bad things are. i defy anyone to reasonably argue that if in the next 12 months all of the above were to stop, that the climate would not react differently. the world population continues to grow, the ice caps are receeding, deforestation continues, car/aircraft emmissions are increasing.......... even if these have no effect whatsoever on the earths climate. they surely need addressing as a matter of urgency. Our natural resources cannot sustain the earths population in future years, but then without a temperate/seasonal climate who would it need to sustain?

I totally agree with all you have said Mick - it just seems that some people will not accept that we are the main cause of this predicament and prefer to adhere to the fact that it is due to 'natural causes'.

China and USA are the biggest polluters by far and as I have said before, I doubt anything constructive will be done about it until it is of course too late. However, we all adapt - evolution is a logical thing.

  10. Hello John/Rollo, I think we may have a better idea once the rest of this winter unfolds. It does look like the seasons have shifted backwards by about three to four weeks doesn't it!

I think that is a pretty correct assessment so far - seems that way to me as well - I am just dreading having another hot summer - I mean it is great when you are off at home, but travelling to work on the trains, etc - total nightmare!!! They should make air conditioned suits! (or underwear!) Sorry - a bit off topic, but yes it does seem quite unseasonal at the mo.
