Keeping my eye on the cells over the Isle of Wight/New Forest area at the moment. Look to be heading my way. Wonder if round two is on the way before daybreak?

Some incredible lightning in the past hour in Basingstoke. Currently sitting here watching distant flashes to the south east, which I assume to be the Brighton cell. A screenshot from a little bit of video I took after the rain eased:

Storm and Convective Discussion 10th June Onwards
Paul R replied to The PIT's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Still flashing and banging off the the south and east. The occasional closer strike but for the most part moving away. Keeping an eye on what's coming in behind it, but might call it a night soon. Some fantastic lightning observed tonight. Without doubt some of the best I've seen. -

Most lightning is now east of my location. Haven't seen so much lightning in years. -

My girlfriend has just woken up and not the biggest fan of night time thunder…I am therefore obliged to be her 'thunder buddy', which unfortunately prevents me from watching at the bedroom window. Bugger. Some very bright lightning and loud deep rolling thunder observed nonetheless. Best night time storm I've seen for a while. -

Rather flashy and thundery in Basingstoke at the moment. Wind is picking up too. Hoozah! -

Evening. Saw some lightning to the west about 90 mins ago (was north of Basingstoke, in Bramley, at the time) from the cell that's now near the south coast. Heard one or two distant rumbles with it, but that all disappeared. Waiting the next batch heading in from the north west. I'm expecting to be woken up in the next few hours... -

Morning all. Two thunderstorms have passed over Basingstoke this morning. This capture was from the second storm about an hour ago. Some great purple CC lightning and thunder. Didn't see any CG lightning at all. Hopefully more to come later on. -

Awaiting the MCS in Basingstoke, tempting fate by holding a barbecue while the rain starts. Thanks goodness for the gazebo. -

Heard some very distant thunder about 7-8pm yesterday evening, but very little activity until those two flashes 30 mins ago, and no thunder heard with those. Infact it's clear overhead here. No doubt there's been more lightning, but have to be up for work in 3 1/2 hours and need to get some sleep. Can't really justify staying up much longer. -

Are you able to see the lightning to the east at all? Have seen two flashes so far but it's pretty far off and not heading this way. -

Still nothing in Basingstoke. Think the best chance will come throughout tomorrow morning and into the afternoon for this area methinks. Despite missing out tonight, I'm not downhearted - worse things happen. -

Any news on that cell that's popped out in South London? Real or anaprop? -

Feeling very muggy and oppressive here. Loads of Ac-cas in the sky and some tcu to the east. Keeping an eye on things to the south. Feels like something may happen here in the next few hours. -

I can hear distant rumbles to the west of Basingstoke at the moment. Two cells visible, looking quite beefy. Going to be an interesting few hours I do think. -

Just had a cheeky little torrential downpour in Basingstoke. Cooled things off a tadge, but no thunder. -

Afternoon, and nice to be back after about 12 months away. Can see TCU and a CB to the east; guess it's the cell on radar. Not heard thunder yet but still in work so will give an update in about 30 mins time. -
Uk General Convective Discussion & Forecasts, 24th August '12>
Paul R replied to Nick F's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Probably worth a mention. Witnessed several CB's today driving west towards Cardiff from Basingstoke. A small thunderstorm with clear rotation at the base was seen between 2-3pm in Newport (S Wales). -
Moderate rain on the go in Cardiff. Not anticipating anything thundery until after 3-4am here. A thundery breakfast may be likely...
