  1. I remember these, the September 2016 and July 2017 ones stand out for me. The lightning was brilliant. The 2014 storm is noted, as you say, for the unusual direction it approached from. That had some cracking CG's with it though. There was another in 2015 too, I have video stills somewhere from that. That had some ridiculous anvil crawlers.

  7. Thankyou. Given my camera was on the kitchen windowsill, stacked up on two boxes of cat worming treatment, a spatula and a coaster just to get it to the right angle, and the storm was 40-50 miles away, I think I did ok. Still need to give the camera a good clean though.
  8. 130 photos taken this evening. Have attached the ones I consider decent enough to share. Apologies for some of the scratches and marks on the pictures; my camera body needs a damn good clean. The last one is my personal favourite.
  9. I've been in an ideal position to see the backbuilding on the cell and the structure and speed of development has really been impressive. Though I'm still taking photos the lightning has all but stopped in the last five minutes. Almost like someone has turned off a switch.
  10. Easiest lightning photography I've ever done. The long distance has meant experimenting a little more but have some decent photos of lit up clouds and all.
  11. It's really pepped up in the last 5 minutes. Lots more cc lightning. So annoyed I have to wait a bit longer to start some photography; the cloud structure is fantastic.
  12. From here there's a lot of CC lightning. I'm waiting for 20 minutes until it gets dark enough at trying some long distance lightning photography. The cell seems to be developing on the southern edge according to radar whcih is concurrent with what I'm seeing here. ]]
  13. I can clearly see the Aylesbury storm flashing away to the north from here. Quite amazing to see as I watched the CB form within ten minutes.
  14. My hometown is Flint, so not far from you. Have heard from a friend there that there's thunder in the area.
  15. Yep. Got a cracking visual from here despite the distance and they're exploding in size.
  16. I'm watching the same anvil. Since I took a photo of it 5 minutes ago it's doubled in size, and another CB has formed right behind it. Lots of convection getting going to the north; nothing south of me.
  17. If anyone's interested, the cells that have popped up north of London currently look like this from my vantage point.
  18. I still remain hopeful, but my forecasting skills are very rusty, so I couldn't say for certain.
  19. Seeing lots of distant but vivid lightning to the north east of me. Way off in the distance. I'll continue watching for a bit but looks like Basingstoke will miss out on a direct hit tonight, but still hoping for something tomorrow.
  20. Just woken up by more thunder and ligtning. EDIT: Torrential rain and hail now.
  21. Quiet overhead here now. Visible lightning off to the east I'm told so I'm off to watch that. EDIT: Gone for a look, can't see anything towards Farnborough/Guildford way. Very frustrating as it's so close.
  22. We have lightning to our west within 1-2 miles. Infact its very close by, just had some lightning and shotgun thunder. Have a look, you should easily see something.
  23. Can you see any lightning from Reading? We have lightning very close by now, within a few miles. You should be able to see something.
  24. Piddling down outside now, lightning brighter, thunder louder, partner scared, cat not bothered. Standard thunder evening.
  25. Evening all. Just back in from a little stormwatch stroll watching the south coast cluster of storms gingerly work its way up the M3 towards me. There is some fantastic lightning tonight, it's as good, if not better, than some of the summer thunderstorms we've had in the last few years. Starting to hear more frequent thunder now I'm back in the house and the lightning is now more clearly visible, which must mean its close (I live on a street that backs onto a thick tree line; any view westward is atrocious, so being able to see lightning now is a very good sign).
