  1. So do we all sit tight and see where Paul chases to or make our own minds up?
  2. Perhaps this is exactly why they dont like suggesting the slight possibilty of tornadoes in national weather reports, now it's a direct hit on Gloucestershire!
  3. Don't know if anyone can help. I was told this morning that Wallop had a mention on the local news last night for the wind speeds yesterday. I was at home and at one point just after a period of rain passed through the wind, which had been coming steady from the SW, changed direction dramatically to the NW with a huge gust knocking over large containerised trees and wheelie bins in our garden. I dont know the speed and also wondered what the techincal name is for a gust like this which seems to be in reverse of everything else.
  4. Heard this report too and had a grin at his 'but we will all probably be asleep' comment
  5. Brief thunder storm here at 4am this morning, one large bolt of lightning looked like it hit metal containers used by workmen renovationg our village hall (the type used on container ships) Reports of marble sized hail and localised flooding from people in Salisbury from around breakfast time this morning.
  6. Woken up by long low rumble of thunder at 4am this morning. This was followed shortly after by a single bolt of lightning and instant thunder, then very heavy rain. Suspect the lightning may have struck metal contractors containers or scaffolding in the village hall across the road as very very close.
  7. quoting one small extract of the above Sun article posted by Coast: Forecasters have advised people to stay indoors over the weekend if possible. It's that kind of comment which annoys me. I've lived long enough to see Autumn storms like this in the UK time and time again. Yes there will be some problems and there will be a tree or two down if the winds reach the speeds forecast, all of which make for great pictures in the news, but when you run a small High St shop like I do and you're fighting the credit crunch, rises in rates and rents and increased bank charges, the last thing small businesses want to see is forecasters telling everyone to stay at home on the first really busy Christmas shopping weekend of the year. Alternatively you can shop with us online
  8. teletext.co.uk : Tornado sweeps across area. A tornado caused damage to cars and buildings when it swept through Hampshire, the Met Office has said http://bit.ly/3Fe3IP Full content of article: "Tornado sweeps across area A tornado caused damage to cars and buildings when it swept through Hampshire, the Met Office has said. Police received scores of calls as what was described as a tornado moved from Romsey, across to Winchester and east to the Petersfield and Liss area. Hampshire police recorded incidents of trees down on properties, cars and roads in the areas. No-one was hurt." Also now being reported by Bournemouth Echo: Romsey hit by mini tornado (From Bournemouth Echo): http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/34503/4717317
  9. local radio station Spire FM based in Salisbury, Wiltshire has reported a lucky escape for four motorists who's car was hit by a falling tree in Whiteparish. The driver reported seeing trees being ripped from their roots and said it was like being in a mini tornado. Police also reported a string of emergency calls from Downton and Whiteparish after strong winds and rain battered the area. No further information currently available.
