  1. Seen a lot of tornado footage on the net, but that's some of the best yet! Thanks for the post.
  2. Middle Wallop Airfield weather station recorded a -3 last night. I was out and about in the car until around 11pm last night, varying amounts of fog between home and Andover and was still just above freezing at that time. Woke to a very nice frost this morning and suprisingly for us the fog had lifted by 8.30am leaving us with a very nice sunny day. Drove across to Salisbury for that bit of last minute Christmas shopping, signs of freezing fog on the trees and hedgerows which were still present on the shaded side when I returned about 1 hour ago. Car temp gauge reading between +2 and +3 on the return journey. Looking forward to another cold, crisp and foggy night tonight - feels so much more like the run up to Christmas.
  3. Currently calm and Overcast. Still have signs of last nights frost on a few rooves and cars ( 0 for several hours last night)
  4. From Wiltshire Police Traffic News Incident added on: 07/12/06 09:28:22 A303 Willoughby Hedge Report of snow and hail falling. in the area. approx 1 1/2 ionches snow has fallen Duration unknown Incident added on: 07/12/06 03:54:06 whole of wiltshire whole of wiltshire General warning to all drivers with regard to large amounts of standing water on the road following heavy rain during the night. This is a county wide problem, all roads affected. Duration Until the water goes away! Probably more likely to have been soft hail. Had hail here this morning at about 10am. Lots more heavy rain overnight with a max wind gust of 42mph
  5. Gutted - Middle Wallop no longer listed in the Observations ! Was I really the only one using that data. Apart from that the site looks great, more thoughts once I have had a further look later on today.
  6. currently being covered on South Today BBC South right now. Report inclued pictures and report on: "Several trees damaged or up-rooted, wooden sheds destroyed, brick shed lifted and moved an inch from it's foundations, various roof damage all featured in the report as well as destroyed greenhouses and the total destruction of the public loo on the local recreation ground."
  7. Apologies to all, thanks Paul - teach me to check links - I should know better as I manage several sites
  8. Just reported on local radio news an event which happened on Saturday, a small tornado at Boarhunt, Nr Portsmouth in Hampshire. News links: Metro News - Tornado destroys UK village And this link already posted by Paul Sherman This from just North Of Portsmouth on Saturday Morning, quite a feisty Tornado it would seem http://www.thenews.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx...ticleID=1899444 interestingly the ponies had grown to fully grown horses on the radio report and had also managed to be thrown 15 feet into the air, up 3 feet on the original report By the time the nationals get hold of the story I reckon reports of a shire 25 feet in the air are likely.
  9. Lots of heavy rain around this morning, wife woken at 5am by very heavy rain, some thunder and lightning at 10.35am only lasted about 20 minutes. Cloud broke for a while at around 11.30am but had a rash of very heavy thundery showers since. Thunder and lightning also mentioned on spirefm this morning, the local radio station for Salisbury, caused them a few broadcast problems for a short while.
  10. 9.57am thunderstorm directly overhead, very bright flash of lightning with lazy rumble of thunder. Storm showing nicely on Blitzortung.org 10.16am Update: very dark with very heavy rain, also just seen a very nice cloud to cloud fork of lightning.
  11. stayed foggy all day, temp never got above +7.5 degrees, now dropping slowly and with the amount of moisture on everything, if it freezes tonight there could be some ice about by morning.
  12. Foggy, visability varies between 100 - 200 metres. Been +1 since the early hours, never quite got down to freezing all night.
  13. Short sharp storm last night about 9.45pm. First made aware after a very long low rumble of thunder which we though was a large plane passing overhead until it became so load we started to wonder what exactly was causing the noise. Went outside to see a very bright white flash of lightning followed by a rapid dash back inside as it absolutely bucketed down. Few more smaller flashes of lightining followed and the odd quieter rumble of thunder before it passed away about 15 miniutes later. As the Sky TV went down we shut down the pc hence this late report, but before this I did take a quick look at the met radar and there appeared to be a very organised narrow band of heavy rain in a line North to South through Hampshire up into Berkshire which had moved West to East. Does this type of feature have a special name or was it just a line of stormy showers?
  14. Woken by thunder and lightning at 7:40am this morning. Only lasted another 10 minutes but don't know what time it started. Currently raining and fairly dark.
  15. ROUGH - chucking it down here, very gusty winds, reports of some localised flooding coming in to the local radio station. If this keeps up I reckon there will be reports of trees down. Chalking this one up as a proper autumn storm
  16. I was in Okehampton Devon yesterday morning woken by rumbles of thunder around 6am - 7am. Very heavy rain on and off all morning. Around 12 noon on the drive home came through a cloud burst between Okehampton and Exeter which slowed two lanes of traffic to 20mph road surface became waterlogged, some of the heaviest rain I can remember being out in. Back in Wallop late afternoon, reports of heavy rain throughout the day. Lightning and thunder between 8Pm - 8.30pm. Very quick short flashes of lightning in small bursts with long pauses before the next few flashes, cloud was very broken and rainfall very short lived possibly because it was moving through fast judging by the speed of the clouds passing the moon. 2nd Oct. rain showers here again this morning.
  17. Very wet and dark in fact darker than it was at 8am. Several heavy bursts in amongst the constant heavy rain. The MetO weather warning for our area is not wrong. IOW lightning detector shows the odd strike around our area but not seen or heard anything.
  18. Just a couple of weeks ago a local girl married a local lad and held a bar-b-que reception in the grounds of the Church. It was a fine day and the reception was well attended, this included a few people who, although know to both families, were not officially invited but still found their way to the event to take advantage of an all day bar. One such person soon found themselves a little worse for wear and in need of relief so they staggered off towards the Wallop Brook to solve their little problem. Unable to stand firm while trying to pee into the steam they lost balance and fell head first into the brook. Unfortunately at this time of year, and with the current drought, this section of stream had dried out completely. They were found shortly afterwards with a serious head wound and slight concussion. None too happy at the fuss and the attentions of the ambulance crew it was pointed out that had the brook been full he probably would have drowned! A few people said this was a shame as it would have done the village a real favour had the brook been full. Village gossip is like Chinese whispers travelling on wild fire when someone well know but not particularly well liked has a mishap. This occured mid afternoon and by early evening we had already heard the story several times but in several versions, at first he'd fallen drunken against a tombstone, later it was against a tombstone and nearly into an open grave, by early evening it was falling against a tombstone then on into the river bed. I only found out the truth by asking the bride's mother.
  19. Daily Express "August to be hotter than July 27/07/06 Britain's record-breaking heatwave is set to sizzle on with forecasters predicting an August of “extreme heat”. The blistering sunshine could see temperatures soar past 101F (38.5C) – the hottest day recorded so far in Britain. Experts said August is likely to eclipse July, which is already on course to be the hottest month since records began 350 years ago." That was just one of the many reports in the media around this time, so what happened to the mega-heat? I for one don't have a clue, August has come and almost gone so quickly I have hardly had time to notice the weather other than it has been mainly cool, often cloudy and like today sometimes very stormy. So I guess we can now all look forward to predictions of an Indian Summer in the press next week... Full Express article at: http://express.lineone.net/news_detail.html?sku=245
  20. Noticed a bit of canvasing for votes for the photography competion, didn't realise this was allowed, so in the words of Donkey from Shrek "pick me"
  21. No one is currently admitting to having taken any, most are claiming to have been watching the lightning not the flashing
  22. I really enjoy a night at my local even when it's a bit quiet like last night. At the end of the night a real gem of a story came out. Apparently, on Wednesday night during the thunderstorms which affected our area, a resident of Over Wallop decided to run around the local streets completely stark naked while shouting about God. Peace was restored after the police arrived with an ambulance to take him away.
