  1. Decided to visit this thread, tried posting in the Midlands S. Central Eng. thread earlier, but now swamped with Midlanders, Tried the SW and Wales full fo SW and Welsh posters, was wondering where all the Hants IOW and nearby area members are posting. Not sure I like these split snow watch boards. Oh BTW great snow day here, been snowing on and off since luch after waking to a good 3 inches
  2. Been a great snow event here in Middle Wallop Hampshire. Woke to a good 3" first thing, that got topped up to around 4 or 5" by mid morning. Intelude of brighter weather followed by steady snow since around 2pm and still snowing now - wahoo1 best I've seen in years!
  3. Don't know if this is a dream come true or my worst nightmare. I have to travel from Middle Wallop in Hampshire to the NEC tomorrow morning, then to Stratford upon Avon Sunday night returning to the NEC Monday morning then back to the Wallops Monday night. Chances of doing that lot without disruption anyone? btw love the snooooooow
  4. frost and fog, dense in places and some freezing, temps around -1.5 at 9am. Nearly came a cropper on black ice in a car park!
  5. Light dusting in Middle Wallop, less than a cm but enough to give a pretty wintery scene
  6. Hard frost again this morning. Forgotten the last morning I didn't scrap the windscreen, love it!
  7. Thunderstorm over Amesbury, Wilts. Approx. 4pm, best activity around 4.30 - 5pm. Very dark, lightning, thunder torrential rain. Reports of local fire brigade pumping out High St in Durrington. Surface water flooding in the area on most roads.
  8. LOL lucky you, I was in Amesbury when this shower passed over Wallop, the wife took glee in phoning and telling me what I was missing - might be my only chance gone! agggggh!
  9. I must have view the maps as they were updating, that swave of orange was in green when I looked!
  10. The weather advisories seem to be constantly changing on the Meto site. This morning Hampshire was not under an advisory, now it is for Saturday, meanwhile large sections of the East Coast that were under an advisory for Sunday are no longer on alert
  11. gutted - wife phoned to tell me it's snowing in Middle Wallop, had hail too, a real mixed blustery shower, but I'm 10 miles down the road in Amesbury where the sun's out!
  12. thanks for the link to the met info, much appreciated maidstone
  13. Was looking around the met office site this morning and went to the warnings page to find the South of England coloured yellow, apparently an advisory for a possible severe event. The have done away with the red only weather warnings and introduced green: all clear, yellow: advisory, orange: be prepared and red: take action. Its interesting that this change has been implimented after the recent gale force winds in which some areas did not have any form of warning even though the conditions would warrant some kind of advisory. Lets hope the new system is used sensibly and that as a result people take more notice rather than dismissing the Met Office for over-reacting to none or minimal events. It's also worth mentioning that NW have had a graded alert system for as long as I can remember, so hats off to NW for leading the way again.
  14. It's there again this morning, clour coded according to severity of event. Obviously realised that one level of alert just gets the wrong response
  15. QUOTE (wallopweather @ 1 Mar 2008, 08:40 AM) Would suggest the slow pace of this thread reflects that this 'cold snap' is going to be no more significant than anything else we've had this winter. QUOTE (wallopweather today, 10.52 AM) Currently baking humble pie - may require a slice or two later today Pie is currently back in the cupboard, can always re-heat later if needed
  16. Had what appeared to be cloud rotation here a little while ago just as the system started to clear our area, low level broken cloud was moving rapidly in opposite direction to everything else. This cloud movement has stopped now as rain eased but would not be suprised to hear reports on the news later of, to quote their favourite saying, "mini tornadoes"
  17. This is bizarre, I have cloud at high altitude moving north while at lower level there is broken cloud moving rapidly south, rain intensifying again - whats going on ??
  18. rain easing, broken cloud visible on horizon, all coming to an end here. Best of Luck to anyone in the Midlands, think you could be in for some serious flooding.
  19. Does anyone have any rainfall totals for anywhere yet. Talk last night about upto 100mm / 4" possible. We must have had a couple of inches here already.
  20. This is like a day in the middle of January with the central heating full on - hate it! Hopefully should clear my area this afternoon giving a bright dry evening in time for a walk to the village pub
