  1. Just had a flash of lightning closely followed by a rumble of thunder here in Middle Wallop. Dark and wet all morning
  2. and this one shows activity a hour earlier
  3. Had a very sharp intense local thunderstorm last night. Started about 11.45pm and passed within about 20 minutes. There were several impressive CG strikes around us and one directly overhead - thundered instantly. Rain turned so heavy at one point that I went back outside to make sure it wasn't hailstones (I'd already gotten soaked walking back from the pub.) This archive image from Blitzortung.org taken at uct 01.00 12-05-07 confirms the thundery actvity over Hampshire last night
  4. Sleet with snow reported nearby / earlier
  5. Sorry to hear of the deaths as a result of this storm, the tornadoes have been heavily reported on the BBC news here in the UK this morning.
  6. Thanks whitefox and Roger J Smith for your replies. I must agree with you whitefox, during our stay we watch a fair few news channels (all others seems to focus on college basketball or CSI) and we certainly got the impression that traffic and weather news we the two main points to any news programme, even the visit by Hilary Clinton to a local Las Vegas school had less coverge than the rainbow!
  7. Just returned from Las Vegas where they made a fair fuss about a rainbow over Vegas caused by some showers in the nearby mountains. Have some pictures which I will post later today, but just wondered if this is a rare event in the Vegas valley or the local news station giving the weatherman something to talk about? Comments from our N.American friends appreciated. Just as a footnote, was bright but cool most of the time I was there, some scattered clouds and a few windy days which made me appreciate the dampness we have in the UK as even a breeze of just 21mph was enough to cause dust to be a problem.
  8. Hi yes the traffic wales cams are better, just could not get on to the site so thought if I could send everyone to the BBC site perhaps I would then be able to use Traffic Wales - very selfish
  9. Anyone struggling to access the Traffic Wales web cams the same pictures are available on the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/southwest/trave...amera5205.shtml thats Junc 49 or http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/southwest/travel/trafficcams/ home page of all cams in S. West Wales or http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/southeast/travel/trafficcams/ home page of all cams in S. East Wales Both offer some great snow viewing, if you get the little red cross for images just try another cam or refresh they come up eventually
  10. Crumbs, snow must be coming down at a hell of a rate, I had only just looked at traffic news for this area before posting and honest at that time the M4 in Wales was open. Best of luck with digging you way out later.
  11. Thanks for the link, had tried that one already but can't access the cams, same on several other cams in the area guess everyone is doing the same so the servers can't cope.
  12. One lane closed in part of South Wales, 99% of the M4 is still open. Cardiff webcam: http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/programmes/webcam.shtml Any one have a better cam?? all us non snow eventers would like to see some links to the live snow action
  13. No lying snow left from yesterday (odd snowman had survived) Had ice and rain when I woke, then rain, then sleet, some snow back to rain and sleet, now stopped and it's only just lunch time. According to http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/EGVP.html currently 1 c dew point 0 c been at or just below this all morning
  14. Living on the front line. Had ice and rain when I woke, then rain, then sleet, some snow back to rain and sleet, now stopped and it's only just lunch time. I love the British weather.
  15. temp 1 dew point 0 windchill -4 rain. Oh well guess as the forecast for us was for rain I should just be happy it snowed yesterday, just a shame that last weekend we were in Abbergavenny for three days and it was gloriously sunny with no snow on the Brecons, if only we had booked for a week later.....
  16. Thanks for the replies from Devon, sorry to hear it's mainly rain. Travelled to Bideford yesterday and was lucky enough to drive in a little light snow on the North Devon link road. Hope that's not my lot for the winter.
  17. QUOTE(wallopweather @ 7 Feb 2007, 08:45 PM) Are we going to need a Samaritans type thread for the fall out tomorrow morning when large parts of the UK who thought they would be digging themselves out of their homes wake to sleet and cold rain. I for one would hate to see netweather members jumping from these boards in droves just because there was no snow in their area Not all members are in the 'hit' zone, we've been border line here in Hampshire all day so I for one could easily wake up very disappointed or perhaps amazed. Historically freezing rain has been more common in my area than decent snow fall but here's hoping

  19. last data I can access at http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/EGVP.html is 1 /-6 at 18.30 which looks good but the warmer air in the SW seems to be creaping ever closer
  20. Lots of talk of the Northern extent of this snow fall but where are we drawing the line in the South. I guess just up the road on Salisbury plain there will be some cover but how is Hampshire going to fair in general??
  21. At which point will we know where the low is going to track and the effect this will have on who does or does not get the snow, and will the models show that or will we be into real time forecasting by then?
  22. Yeah Ha! Serious Snow Ramp - Boy am I excited by this one. Looks like we are on the verge of a real snow event, not just a dusting but some real coverage. Only shame for me is that at the moment it appears border line for rain / snow in my area, may need to drive North tomorrow to see some white stuff.
  23. Woke at 5am, light covering of snow, possibly about 1cm and it was switching between sleet and big snow flakes. Had another look around 6am and everything had a good covering, probably about 3cm. Finally crawlled out of bed at 8am and most of the snow had gone, just some left on the cars and the odd patch on the lawn. This patchy snow is still present at 9am. Not expecting anymore, but glad I woke early to at least see a covering.
