  1. Occassional showers of sleet here this afternoon... very overcast... forecasted to turn to snow overnight. As for last weeks snow, only the snowmen are left standing and a few of their heads have fallen off.
  2. Sleet with a few wet flakes mixed in at 1.45pm. Whoopee.
  3. Snowing quite moderately in Leicester... settling too! What a pleasant surprise after yesterdays disappointment...
  4. Its been snowing here since I got in from work at about 6.30pm. Mostly light but the odd moderate spurt. About 4cm on the grass, 2cm on pavements, roads. Virtually all of this mornings snow cover was gone by the time it started settling again this evening.
  5. Moderate snow shower here. Good sized flakes falling now and accumulating quickly. Everything settling, adding to 2cm from light snow between 9-11pm last night. Worth reporting, unlike the rubbish stuff so here far
  6. Wahey... a half decent snow shower here at the minute. And so it blooming well should be, i've been tracking it on the radar for the past hour or so. It passed through Lincoln ages ago, fizzled a little but seems to have pepped up. Joy. Only settling on the cars and roofs, but nevertheless almost worth waiting up for.
  7. Hurrah! The first snow shower of the day in Rushden. They've been 20-30 miles east all day over Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire, so signs are afoot the wind is starting to veer to the east.
  8. Light snow on and off for the past hour here in East Northants... i'm very optimistic now!
  9. Sunset on the North Yucatan coast looking west to Progesso. January/February is the dry season, but surprising the low season for tourists, unlike Cancun on the Carribean 200 miles away. Temperatures on the coast were an average 21-24 degrees in late Jan/early Feb with a brisk NEly wind setting in mid-afternoon and 30 only 10 miles inland. Brrr.
  10. The Yucatan Pennisula is littered with Mayan Ruins. Some unspoilt and off the tourist track. This is XCambo. It cost 20p to get in and no obligation to pay. We were the only people there, apart from a bloke in a hut and his dog on Saturday afternoon. Some of it has been restored - it sits about 5 miles from the north Yucatan coast behind a salt water lagoon. The Mayans enjoyed their salt.
  11. Chixulub Port was the centre of the metorite impact causing the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period. Popular with Canadian tourists in winter and wealthy types from the nearby city of Merida, escaping the heat (and watersports - wind sailing, kite surfing), it's an otherwise a quiet, rather run down place, but very friendly. Taken early February 2005. In the distance you can see Progesso Pier (the longest in the world) and an American Cruise liner turning up to experience the charms of the Yucatan for an hour or so before they clear off again after buying some tat, for their all inclusive experience.
  12. Progresso Pier, Yucatan, on the Gulf on Mexico, at 6km the longest Pier in the world, taken in early February 2005. This allows cruise liners to visit on tuesdays and thursdays, when another wise pleasant colonial port gets invaded by American tourists for 2-3 hours.
  13. The Cenote at Dzibilchaltun, a Mayan site, near Merida, Yucatan, pictured in late January 2005. The Cenotes are small hollows in the limestone of the otherwise flat pennisula of north Yucatan, Mexico which form a concentric pattern. They were created by the meteorite which caused the mass extinction of the dinosaurs at the end of the Cetaceous Period, centred in Chixulub. Crystal clear they are fabulous for swimming.
  14. Drove through two brief snow flurries on the way to work between Market Harborough and Leicester on the A6 between 6.30-7am this morning. Did appear to be settling. Had a snow shower at home last night at about 11.30pm before bed, but didn't settle.
  15. Light Sleet here... don't think anything heavier is likely to reach me.
  16. East Northamptonshire at nearly 2am... 1 degree C approximately Some high cloud, otherwise clear Wind currently NNW light Approximately 1017mb ... no snow tonight ... Digital weather station coming soon for 30th birthday!
  17. Yes thunder and hail in Leicester at 3pm, thereafter just sleet. The hail gave a covering which is now melting. Unfortunately I suspect if this had come along earlier in the day it would have been snow, but not to be.
  18. Went out for a walk on the front at Weston-Supermare about 1pm. Noticed some parts of Wales on the other side of the Bristol Channel were snow covered. A snow shower came along about 2ish but didn't quite make it here but obscured the view across to Wales. It's too warm here in any case. No snow in the north east or in the east midlands either. Bah humbug!
  19. As I posted that, some light snow has justed started falling here in Rushden!
  20. My mum texted me about 30 minutes ago to tell me its snowing and settling in my home town of Yarm, near Middlesbrough.
  21. Torrential downpour accompanied by thunder and lightening directly overhead between 3.30-4.30pm in Headington NE of Oxford City centre. Clear Blue Skies now!!!
  22. Torrential rain, gusty wind and rumbles of thunder here in Oxford as this minute in time, moved in from the east.
  23. Currently in Oxford - storm here between 12pm - 1pm. Brightening up again now.
