  1. Still snowing here! That's 8 hours without stopping. Been out building a snowman (with extra bits, haha!) - bit concerned though as I live in a valley and none of the roads have been cleared here, without a thaw expected I've no idea how long it'll be until I can actually get out of the village! On another note, I wonder how far North that pptn will come
  2. Thanks for that last bit of advice, the VXR8 will be sitting on the drive now until the roads are completely clear
  3. Well, there wasn't a lot at work but I left early anyway... we now have moderate snow at Hinckley with about 2cm on the ground at the moment. The roads are very dangerous out so be careful! Nearly spun on the way home, struggled to get up a hill and nearly had somebody crash in to me; RWD in snow wasn't really such a good idea.
  4. Not sure on temperature as I'm still at work. It says 0c on the internet, if it's foggy then surely the dewpoint is 0c too?
  5. It's gone very foggy here! Anybody ever seen it snow while it's foggy?
  6. Everybody here is being sent home early because of the snow too... most people have already gone; I'm not going to rush home as it looks like nothing's going to happen for a while yet (and I can never work from home, always drift off!). The thaw has begun anyway, most of the snow has now melted - guess it's just a case of watching how the pptn behaves, whatever way it behaves, it's doing it slowly!
  7. Maybe I'm worrying prematurely but I can see this being a non-event for Leicester again... the pptn is weak and weakening! Isn't heading south and still appears to be heading SW. Confused!
  8. Anybody else have a feeling that the band in the North is going to go further West than expected? So we had a gap in the first band and the second band will go West of us. Funny considering everything else went East of us
  9. Well, we've had light snow for the past hour here and has left us with... nothing! The pptn band to the North is looking pretty weak too - maybe I'm just getting worried too early!
  10. Seems to be a nice Leicester sized gap in the first band Doesn't seem to be moving too quickly, but, isn't that bit in the North meant to start getting dragged directly south around lunch time?
  11. Good morning excited Midlanders Looking at the GFS pptn charts, I can't believe how it just sits there for so long! Looks to be a bit far West for Leicester to get a massive dumping but the Birmingham area and SE of that seem to be in for an interesting day and half... or it could just not happen of course
  12. Anybody remember the snow in January 2003? Wasn't that a similar setup to this one...? can't remember the exact date else I would have a look at the charts. I recall that starting as rain and turning quickly to snow and giving us a good dumping!
  13. We've got a slight dusting in the carpark at work, though it might just be frost! Had some snow at night last week in Ashby, can't remember what day though but had gone by morning!
  14. That's just brilliant! Going have to save a copy of that... 2009/2010 - the winter which avoided the Midlands
  15. Have the Fax charts changed? I thought the front coming down from the North was a cold front? Seems to be showing as an occluded front now?
  16. Can't believe how much the Midlands is actually missing out on this... I have people on my Facebook from various locations moaning about "Yet more snow" - it'd be nice to actually have more than a light dusting (which is what we have at Ashby De La Zouch today), though, that's more than I've had at home...
  17. We actually had a covering of snow last night, which was unexpected! Just been driving home and it's snowing in Leicester Forest East... didn't even know anything was expected. Looks like the band of pptn is moving away now and not convinced that stuff in the North will reach us, so, looks like that's it for a bit.
  18. Well, all rain now even at Ashby... makes me wonder exactly how much snow we would have had if it was a bit colder considering it's still raining 12 hours later!
  19. Well, that proves what difference elevation makes! Just come home via Ashby De La Zouch and it's like a blizzard there, everywhere's whiteout! Come back to Hinckley and there's a bit of snow on the grass... The Severe Weather warnings are clearly justified by the MetO considering you can have blizzard conditions in one area and have rain just 1 mile down the road.
  20. Starting to turn to snow here. 1.4c and dew point of -1c. I'm at 165m ASL
  21. Still rain here with 2c and dew point of -1c - the band appears to be going north of me now and I'm only in the drizzly bit anyway so unless it stops where it is now and intensifies or goes north and migrates south again then I think I've had my lot...
  22. 2.9c here with a dew point of 0c - seems as though the pptn has developed that gap which aims for Leicester again though
  23. What usually happens in these situations is I get absolutely no snow at all at home... leave the house for work in the morning and get stuck as it's heavily snowed at work! Though it is about 210m ASL.
  24. Don't know why everybody is getting so stressed! The first front which is around at the moment is the warm front which is just giving drizzle/rain; it's the occluded front behind it which is the interesting one... the only thing is how far north is will travel before it stalls.
