  1. Woohoo, just had a kickass storm here. Loads of CG, hail and loud loud thunder. Best direct hit I've had here in years, even scared me just a little bit :-)
  2. Lovely light show in the last half hour looking out from Polesworth towards Leicester. Probably about 20 miles away but plenty of CG strikes and low grumbles of thunder all around. Wish it was darker :-)
  3. Amber warning for Tamworth for overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning - wahayyyyyy!
  4. Yay snow! Not sticking on paths and roads but light covering on cars and grass. It's fizzling out a little before reaching us and then pepping up again as it gets north towards Ashby.
  5. Still rain here in Polesworth at the moment. Looks like we should be getting a heavier band in about 20 minutes though - perhaps that's what it needs to kick it up to snow.
  6. Still no snow for us in Polesworth, not even sleet, which seems really strange as Tamworth a few miles away have snow now. Wonder if it'll change now. Radar says it should be literally bucketing it down right now but it's just light icy rain. Wonder if ice pellets are making the radar look more intense than it should?
  7. Wow, this is brilliant! Every year, the snow has just missed us but we have hit the bullseye this year. There's currently a conveyor belt of snow headed our way for the next few hrs at least and the roads are all completely covered again. This has been my best winter for the past 10 years plus! No day off work tomorrow as I live so close but it'll be great to get loads done as it'll be quiet and I can keep looking out at all that lovely snow while I'm doing it.
  8. Wish it had been an overnighter so that schools would have closed from the start and people wouldn't have risked getting stranded at work. Husband's trying to get home now despite venturing out this morning after all my warnings. He doesn't believe me now after so many false alarms :-) Roads are very slippery in Polesworth now and some of the hills are impossible. It's only going to get worse as there's still so many people on the roads picking their kids up and trying to get home. Looking forward to when everyone's home safe and sound and can play over the weekend - wheeeeeeeeeee!
  9. It's just started - very very lightly. Yay, it's snowing :-)
  10. You can never tell who's going to get the snow though until you're radar watching a few hrs before. Looks like there's enough of it about next week anyway for us all to get a dumping at some stage. When we've had a cold spell like this before, it's been nothing but dry on the forecasts, at least this time, there's lots of precipitation on the way and uppers don't even look marginal like they normally would. Saturday's bit of snow looks like it might be back on again now and no doubt Monday's may well pop up again between now and then. I'm looking forward to the next 7 days - reckon there's snow for all and I'm usually a terrible pessimist.
  11. I think they've temporarily taken them off to save on bandwidth - they must be expecting the forum to get busier for some reason :-) We can put locations in posts from now on. Mine's Polesworth in North Warks and I'm hoping for a serious snow hit this year after so many near misses all around me in previous years.
  12. Saturday's looking a little bit tasty now for the Midlands - let's hope we wake up to a bit of the white stuff :-)
  13. Ha ha, I'll have a bit of that. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few GFS/ECM charts looking like that in a week or so - eye candy indeed!
  14. Bucketing it down in Polesworth, Nr Tamworth, South Staffs - no rumbles yet though :-( Still not out of the NSC in 2012.
  15. Bit more optimistic that we'll hear a few rumbles today. Looks to be sferics in the cell approaching Telford at the mo which may make it to us :-)
  16. Grrr, just passing to the south of me and the line's looking to continue that way - still no storms yet for me this year.
  17. Suprised it's so quiet in here, looks like there's a little bit of snow of the way for perhaps Nottingham & Leicester in the next few minutes :-)
  18. Wow, cool satellite pic, never realised it had fallen on quite so much of England - although yet again, we're a completely green bit about 15 miles to the west of Hinckley :-)
  19. Oh dear, big gap in the non-existent precipitation above us now and unless this starts moving west, I think we've had it for this event. Oh well, roll on the next rollercoaster. Good luck to those further south, hope it starts heading south-west towards you soon.
  20. Radar has had greens and even yellows over my postcode over the past two hours but not a flake so far, it really is like a proper snowshield as it's falling south of me once it's gone over :-) How weird, I know there's usually loads of anaprop in cold situations but I've never known this.
  21. Those 850s are definitely too high at 0 for me - it'd be a meteorological miracle. Keeping everything crossed though as it looks as though it's going to be hazardous regardless. /edit - to ajpoolshark - stay safe fella!
  22. There's still a bit where it's been swept into piles which I'm quite surprised about as it didn't seem that cold earlier on in the week, expected it to disappear far faster. You still got a fair bit left too then?
  23. I'm near Tamworth so that looks good for me. I've been watching the charts for a couple of days and kept thinking, nah, the 850s are far too high but every run just looks better and better so perhaps it might not be rain after all. Not too long to wait for this one though, we'll soon see how it starts tomorrow afternoon :-)
