  1. Well, that looks like the last of our snow - best for years so hope it sticks around for a while. Never quite reached 10cm but not too far off -
  2. Reckon we've got about 3 inches here and looking at the radar, there should be another hour or so of heavier stuff. Great stuff, deepest I've known it here for a good few years :-)
  3. Still very light here and on the radar, seems to becoming lighter before it gets here. Hope it's not going to be one of those instances where it all falls on Cannock Chase and then beefs up again once it's gone past us.
  4. Looks to be another 40 minutes or so before it reaches me in Polesworth, North Warks. Glad it's snow so far, good signs!!!!
  5. Argh, it's all looking too perfect 48 hours out and my pessimism is kicking in to try and avoid the disappointments of the last two winters here. Every hour is going so bloody slowly, Saturday feels like a lifetime away and every new run that comes out makes me hold my breath before I take a peek. I am such a saddo, how can someone get so worked up at the thought of snow. Madness!!!
  6. When it's really cold, it seems to mess up the radar with anaprop - reluctant to trust it at the mo. Getting a nice bottle of rum in ready for a bit of lamp-post watching come Saturday night :-)))
  7. I've got a good feeling about Saturday/Sunday. When the real cold spell was 'on', it looked as though we'd get nothing as usual. Us Midlanders get our real good snowfalls from battleground scenarios and stalling fronts that could be rain/snow. If it's rain, it'll probably be dangerous with how cold the ground will be by then but I reckon it's going to be snow longer than we reckon. At least there's a bit of excitement in the offing instead of clear skies and cold.
  8. Quick question for you, AJ. If you're looking at a chart for say Today 12.00 - does that chart incorporate the weather in the 3 hrs leading up to that time, the 3 hrs after that time or is it a snapshot of noon on the dot?
  9. Thanks for the explanation everyone - for some reason I was thinking that the models wouldn't take account of predicted stratospheric warming until that warming had actually happened and could be keyed as part of the input data for a run.
  10. Could someone please explain to me how the models deal with stratospheric warming. Am I right in thinking that the the run is produced based on what the current statosphere temp recorded data is for that time and although there's a model to predict stratosphere temps with the 10hpa/30hpa heights, this prediction itself isn't incorporated into the full model run when working out what the weather's going to actually do - does that make sense? I've confused myself now, hope that's clear to someone.
  11. No rain here yet in Polesworth (North Warks/South Staffs border) even though the radar's saying it is. Might go to bed for a few hours and set my alarm for about 3 in the morning and come back down :-)
  12. Argh, GFS back on board and NAE has snatched it right back. Will it, won't it?????
  13. Exactly Blizzards, it's always like this with snow - hopefully, we'll be lamp-post & radar watching this time tomorrow night :-)
  14. But it is, when it snows all around you and there's a snowshield above your house, it's just awful. We have a few good drinks and a late night of fun and frolics leading up to the disappointment though so it's not all bad :-)
  15. At this sort of range, the NMM is usually closest to what actually happens in my opinion. Another half an hour and we'll see what that says.
  16. I know it's only 24 hours away but I can't help but remember last year when we had dumping forecasts constantly up until the day before, only for it to snow all around me (other than Leicester who had the same thing). Brum had nearly a foot and we had less than a centimetre. It was gutting and everything seemed so perfect in the run up to it. This time, I really think it'll be rain, it just doesn't feel quite cold enough. I'm hoping for a lovely surprise but I'm not going to be too disappointed like I was last year if it doesn't materialise.
  17. It's just going about 15 miles north of me at the moment. Anyone else getting some?
  18. Woohoo, I'm off to purchase myself a bit of netweather radar :-)
  19. That little hole of blue in the cape - that'd be me then :-)
  20. Looks interesting today - off to buy a radar sub :-)
  21. He's reversing now - wonder if this is going to be another? Phew, glad to hear the team are fine - looks like hell on earth out there judging by all the footage.
  22. My God, this is scary - hope the team are safe and sound. Kris Hair on ChaserTV is near Marietta - clouds looking ominous there. http://www.chasertv.com/api/static_pages/lite/241_kris-hair.php /edit - is that a tornado showing now?
  23. Rope tornado on here? http://www.chasertv.com/api/static_pages/lite/356_ksbi2.php
