Same here. At 0.0c now.
(just watch the temp shoot up to like 4c as it approaches lol... joking aside it probably will now haha)
....you wont believe this....it's already at 2.0c! I give up!
-
Trough getting closer, temp just 0.9c, hoping for something wintry!
-
I spy possibly the forming of the famous pembrokeshire dangler?
-
The traffic Cameras arent very proportionate let's be onest, they don't show much of the roads from Ammanford to Wrecsam one bit!
I was originally refferring to places such as Carmarthen and Pont Abraham that are further inland and at a higher elevation than I am
-
Disagree theres a covering of snow in the Amman Valley, it's higher up granted but not by a huge amount.
From the looks of the traffic camera's earlier only a select few places have had a covering.
-
Didn't get anything here overnight which was expected really since places at higher elevations got nothing either, hoping to catch a few showers later!
-
Is it just me or is the precip rotating around a point just west of Pembrokeshire? Or was it meant to do that anyway....
-
Temperature suddenly starting to drop more rapidly...down to 3.9c, rain getting a bit heavier
-
4.8c here at the moment hoping it will drop some more! Wind switched around to the NE
-
I think it's time andy got those famous charts out again!
They may not be that good but its always interesting to see what they show haha
-
aha! Marcus you were correct, the warnings have returned! Amber warning covering parts of east wales
-
Wow metoffice really like to change their warnings alot dont they?
That's strange....why would they take it off completely all of a sudden
-
You've won the euromillions and you're taking us all the the arctic?
Don't get my hopes up now will you!
Got a slight feeling the odds on pyrotech winning the euromillions are the same as us seeing snow here thursday night!
-
The low looks even further south on the 18z GFS.....what effect will this have? Will any snow forecast be further south?
-
nothing for me then
Don't worry we might get something on the weekend when the flow turns North westerly
-
So I take it unlikely too see anything on the coast from this event on thursday/friday?
-
Had a quick look at the GFS for the weekend, on saturday especially, -6c 850's covering wales with 522 thickness in a NW airflow.....
Edit: We've just had a beast of a hail shower, so much hail has fallen there are tracks in the road!
-
Hey yes, I've had friends text me in Llanelli to say it's snowing (i can't see outside from work)... They claim snow, however i think perhaps more like wet snow as you say. Heavy snow was observed at Pembrey Sands at 11am. Temp recorded was 7.2c so i don't know maybe wet snow in a heavy shower...
Yes mostly wet snow, tends to be on the back edge of the showers at the moment. Just had another heavy hail shower but definitely had some snow flakes blowing about towards the end!
-
Quite a few wintry showers have passed through here, rain, hail, sleet, wet snow, the lot. The wind is also quite strong especially in the showers, but as of yet no proper snow falling
-
Met has got down snow 100m and above...and im 100m fingers crossed
Pembs Dangler would also come in handy...
Think you need a NW airflow for a pemb dangler....could be wrong though
-
Thats a good question. Im not entirely sure but i think it might have something to do with the resolution of the model. The NAE is a high resolution model so there are more grid points & i believe they are closer together taking in a higher amount of observational data. The end result is a more accurate picture of the atmosphere so the NAE is generally (not always) better at modelling convection and sea breazes for example than those models with a lower resolution (less grid points &further apart).
I guess as you go further away from the coastal areas of the UK there is less observational data there and thus the model resolution drops somewhat. Perhaps explaning why we see snow at sea level out there.
I may be wrong though im not entirely sure
Some more information on Met Office models can be found here:http://www.metoffice...her-forecasting
Cheers Jamie, useful link also for understanding the model resolutions

There's something which I dont understand, hope someone can explain for me.....The NAE rainfall/snowfall charts show snow out at sea so with that obviously being at sea level, why is it unlikely for us to have snow on land at sea level?
-
Met office got a yellow warning out for tues/wed for snow on the hills above 100m, 10cm or more possible, and even slushy accumulations at lower levels!
-
Interesting NAE chart? If it verifies...not too far out though!

Yep....snowshield is powering up :smilz38:
You may get something though! Looks like it will last around 30-45 mins whatever comes out of it
