  1. Cheers Paul and yes, the beast from the east nearly always delivers for us if the right synoptics are there
  2. Hi all Here are some pictures I took today whilst out and about. It doesn't snow heavily twice within a week in Jersey, does it?
  3. Looking good for us then ... temp. currently 24.1C at Jersey Airport and very humid ... here's hoping for some storm action this evening In fact, just been outside and one of the anvils from that sat pic is encroaching, albeit slowly, from my SW and is right on top of us
  4. I believe it has, albeit in its embryonic stages. Track and depth still very uncertain at this time though
  5. Hey TMS ... saw this on the local news a day or two ago where they stated some of Guernseys coastal roads will be closed during the highest tides. Luckily, our highest occur on Tuesday also but even so, with a 37.1 footer (11.3m) predicted Sunday morning and evening coupled with deep low pressure and high winds, the tide will be much higher than this. Our main concern will be if the sea wall is breached again like last year. One thing going in our favour though will be the wind direction. If the low follows the models projected path, our strongest winds will come from the west and northwest which should spare our south coast and the town centre. Definately keeping an eye on this one due to the uncertainty surrounding the exact track and depth of the system. Good luck over there my boy!
  6. Morning all. Have been keeping a close eye on this one and will continue to do so. The potential is there for some damaging winds and heavy rain for us during Sunday. What is also a worry for us here in the islands is that the projected low coincides with some of our highest spring tides of the year. The high tides for Sunday in Jersey are at 06:03 and 18:32 respectively with a predicted height of 37.1ft for both (40ft being the top end of our scale). However, with the potential for very strong winds, deep low pressure and heavy rainfall, the predicted height of 37.1ft will inevitably rise considerably. We are currently having a new storm drainage system fitted along our South Coast following a major breach of the sea wall last year which caused extensive flooding. This could well be the new system's first real test.
  7. Morning all...just checked the radar and another snow train appears to be going begging just 20 miles to our East! The similarity of this set up to the one we had early January is uncanny...maybe, just maybe this time???
  8. Hey RRR...to be honest, our main event was Friday night into Saturday morning when we managed approximately 3inches. However, just across the Channel parts of the Contentin Peninsular accumulated 20inches according to reports in our local press yesterday evening I will post some pics of our snow soon but here is one I took about ten minutes ago showing the snow and ice forming on our estate from the current freezing rain and snow onslaught. Not much at the mo but enough to have suspended our local bus service and close the schools. The roads are becoming like skating rinks
  9. Hi all - freezing rain and snow here in Jersey ... roads becoming treacherous again. Forecast is for the precipitation to turn to rain here later this evening. Temp at Jersey Airport currently 0.4c
  10. Very interesting...cheers my friend...I wonder if our taster this morning was a sign of things to come for us over the next 12 - 24 hours? B)
  11. Afternoon all...if that 40cm report is correct, that is amazing The snow showers this afternoon here in Jersey have become more scattered and generally lighter as the streamer in question that just keeps on streaming over the Cotentin Peninsula has slipped back to our South East. I can see the edge of the streamer from my bedroom window as we speak...a beautiful site indeed and one that produced a large funnel early yesterday afternoon. The temperature at Jersey Airport is currently 1.6c but has been fluctuating between 0 and 2 for most of the day. When the showers come in, we experience a sharp fall in temp. Most of our main roads are now passable following our deluge earlier today but minor roads remain treacherous. Still no official word yet on how much fell - what I can so though is it was nowhere near the 40cm's some areas of NW France may have experienced. The local Met Office are predicting more heavier falls tonight and a period of more general heavy and prolonged snow, so what we wake up to tomorrow morning could be potentially very interesting. Pictures soon
  12. Hi folks...an update from here in Jersey. Snow showers have persisted throughout the morning, some of which have been heavy and prolonged. The forecast continues in this vein for us for the remainder of today and overnight tonight with temperatures expected to fall to the dizzy lows of minus one degree celcius (temperature at Jersey Airport currently 0.6 degrees celcius). Our islandwide public transport system is crippled, Jersey Airport is closed and is likely to remain closed all day and people are being urged to stay off the roads unless their journey is absolutely necessary. The last time I can remember experiencing anything like this on the island was back in 1987. Pics to follow soon
  13. hey butler son ... I know that 7.5 cms was recorded here on Tuesday night but what we have had here in the last 12 hours must have easily surpassed that. When I get news of how much has / is due to fall I will let you know. Cheers cityatnight2001...will snap some more scenic ones when I get out later
  14. Here are some pics taken from our back door at 07:30 this morning soon after waking up. I hope to get out and about a little later with the family to snap some more scenic shots
  15. Morning all...severe wintry conditions expected here in the Channel Islands for the next three days at least. I have woken this morning to another whiteout and several cm's of fresh snow and if our local forecast is correct, snowfall amounts here by tomorrow morning will be the highest we have seen here for a long time All public transport services have been suspended and many roads are becoming either treacherous and / or impassable.
  16. Shows over here...............................for now
  17. It's bang on the money at the mo Barry  I have been watching it develop all day over the Cherbourg Peninsular and its only during the last 3 hours or so where it has really got its act together over us...it could be a memorable night in snow event history for Jersey if these conditions continue
  18. I took some of the first substantial snowfall we had here this winter on Tuesday night of this week and am working on some of the current conditions. I am no David Bailey though so bear with me please
  19. We wish...I hope that what we are currently experiencing bodes well for you guys across the Channel in the coming few days
  20. This really is amazing...especially for us here in the C.I.
  21. I'll have some beans on toast for dinner and see what I can do
  22. Hey noggin, generally yes. A continental flow serves us well which is why we are all looking forward to the Saturday night, Sunday all day event And no, noteworthy snow has been been a rarity here for the last twenty years or so...but I have a feeling that's all about to change
  23. Many a true word spoken there Matt ... for snow like this in Jersey, you know the conditions have to be exceptional
