  1. Thank you coffee lover We (the family) are all safe indoors and well stocked up with essentials. The littleuns are keen to go out and play but with a wind chill of -8 and a blizzard incoming, this won't be happening today. No doubt the schools will be closed tomorrow (as well as today) when the forecast is set to improve so they will have plenty of time to play out in it then
  2. Nearly 3 hours of continuous moderate snow and still no sign of it letting up. Also, the skies are darkening somewhat with the onset of the "code red blizzard" we are all anticipating here: http://www.jerseymet...Radar/Radar.htm Current temp: 0.0C
  3. It's been snowing moderately here for the last hour and a half with some heavier bursts mixed in and with plenty more to come looking at our Jersey Met radar: http://www.jerseymet...adar/Radar.html
  4. Cheers Polar Bear and yeah, it is bitter out there The snow really getting going here now. I've already seen some peeps heading off to work as normal not heading the warnings. Oh, and I've taken a couple of pics already and will take some more later for the before and after effect
  5. Morning all The snow is already here in earnest. I was up from midnight till about 04:00 this morning and witnessed the rain turn to sleet and then to snow before I headed back to bed for a couple of hours. The latest Jersey Met radar is already showing pulses of heavier snow heading directly for us: http://www.jerseymet...Radar/Radar.htm And my two littleuns are already up, both very happy and excited as schools are closed for the day. At present, the roads are fairly clear but as I type this, the snow is beginning to settle and get heavier. Keep an eye on our latest local news here: http://www.channelon.../channelonline/ Current temp: 0.3C
  6. Just been outside as part of our garden fence has blown down so have made some temporary repairs. It feels positively Baltic out there! Won't be doing that again in a hurry!!
  7. Definitely. We are all staring down the barrel of a 1 in 30 year event so fingers crossed for everyone concerned here in the SW. But above all, stay safe
  8. And the longer it takes to drift ESE, the more snow we shall all receive. Remember, this is our time - we have a lot of catching up to do with the rest of the UK
  9. Better than nothing IMO. Oh, and great win for the Pool yesterday so it's all good
  10. Watching this latest sat rep, the low appears to have stalled for the last hour or so, not that we mind of course http://www.meteociel.fr/observations-meteo/satellite.php
  11. Temp 0.9 and falling. Becoming increasingly windy and snowing moderately. Precipitation getting tantalisingly close to you guys and gals on the mainland: http://www.jerseymet.gov.je/radar/Radar.htm
  12. Snow central which is very rare for us I will huff and puff as much as I can to get some your way
  13. Moderate to heavy snow here now, a little earlier than expected. Temp 1c. Not settling yet but with the temp still falling, we shouldn't have long to wait.
  14. Jersey Airport temp currently 1.8. Heavy sleet here right now and wind on the increase. Latest local shipping forecast just issued here: http://www.jerseymet.gov.je/
  15. Here's a nice link to our recently upgraded Jersey Met doppler radar for all of us in the south and south west http://www.jerseymet.gov.je/Radar/Radar.html
  16. There is an eerie resemblance here to the 12 or so hours leading up to the last major snowfall event that I can remember in Jersey way back in 1979. We have a strengthening SE to E wind and the temperature is beginning to fall steadily. There is also a very low grey veil of stratus beginning to engulf our skies and my gut instinct is telling me that we are about to witness an extraordinary weather event not seen here for a long time. This gut instinct is now even more justified by the fact we have code red blizzard warnings out in force across the island: http://www.channelon...e.asp?ID=504256 http://www.bbc.co.uk...jersey-21733236
  17. Here you go gottolovethisweather http://www.bbc.co.uk...jersey-21733236
  18. Hi everyone Just checking in before the main event begins. Our local met office who are usually shy when it comes to issuing severe weather warnings have just issued a code red warning for us for tomorrow. Overnight rain tonight will turn readily to sleet and snow by morning and will become persistent and heavy during the morning. This coupled with an easterly gale to severe gale force wind gusting as high as 60mph will cause significant drifting. Maximum temperature expected is 1C. I will do my best to share pictures and reports as and when I can. For everyone else in the south west due to be effected by the imminent extreme weather, stay safe
  19. I can confirm we are experiencing light snow showers here in Jersey at the moment so I could almost safely assume that Guernsey has the same
  20. this can't be right, surely? a little worrying if it is! 87mph
  21. by morning, I'm expecting to be buried under a foot of snow if this keeps on intensifying through the night
