  1. Evening all The latest warning from Jersey Met - Code Red However, we've experienced far worse although I'm glad they're taking the potentially volatile situation seriously. That said, our local Met Department don't issue code reds willy nilly so probably best to stay in and monitor the situation carefully. We're just glad that the worst of the wind looks likely to affect our region between 03:00 and 08:00 with a peak somewhere in the middle when most peeps should be safely tucked up in bed
  2. Absolutely! Lightning every few seconds here now and second rumble of thunder just heard. Very lively indeed
  3. The first day of the blizzard brought about 5-10 inches of snow. The next morning, we looked outside and our garden had a drift of at least 2 feet. By the end of that day this was up to almost 3ft. And that's when the reports of 6 to 10ft drifts starting coming in from more northern areas of the island so yes, epic indeed. Even my fiance was surprised, being a northerner and not experiencing snow like that in Jersey before and as you can imagine, our littleuns were going crazy for it And for the southern half of the uk, so close and yet so far springs to mind ... maybe tonight for you guys, just maybe To be honest, I'll take the severe gale forecast for us for tomorrow morning over the snow. We don't want to get too greedy here
  4. Lovely wrap around starting to develop on tonight's low ... http://www.yr.no/satellitt/europa_animasjon.html
  5. Cheers GLTW You have a good memory. This time last year (or thereabouts) we were on the verge of the worst blizzard here for decades and ended up being buried in up to 10ft snow drifts. Even more amazing considering the time of year we had the dollop Looking like it's touch and go for you guys with the current synoptics but fingers crossed
  6. Good luck with the snow potential tonight peeps Here, we are staring down the barrel of a predicted 23mb pressure drop in the next 12 hours with severe gales and 60-70mph gusts predicted tomorrow morning. Time to batten down the hatches yet again :O
  7. Following a brief respite we are now as before but the wind has veered to a more SW / W direction. Our roof tiles are being lifted frequently by the stronger gusts, a sound I haven't heard in a long time. Gonna try and knuckle down for some shut eye. Stay safe folks
  8. Jersey Met recently tweeted the highest gusts recorded so far: Jersey Airport: 64mph Jersey Harbour: 73mph Winds expected to peak here in the next 2 hours. Our high tide passed at 18:30. The predicted forecast height was 10.1m. The recorded height was 11.1m! Roads along our south coast were closed for a time due to "huge" waves breaking over our sea defences. People have been advised to stay indoors ...

  10. Evening all Getting very windy here now. I've just read on another forum that there's been a gust recently recorded at Ushant Lighthouse (not too far away from us) of 82knts (94mph)
  11. Jersey Airport just tweeted SG9 gusting 63mph. Windier here now than it's likely to be all weekend. Early into next week has loads of potential though. Stay safe peeps.
  12. And now a code red storm warning issued through our local media: Red Storm Warning For Jersey A Red storm warning has been issued for Jersey. The Met Office is forecasting force 10 winds tonight, with gusts to 80mph. There will be heavy rain and a risk of structural damage and falling trees. The official advice is to avoid being outside if you can. The bad weather means a challenging Christmas getaway continues for hundreds of ferry passengers. Condor had already cancelled today's fast sailings because of stormy weather. Now the Clipper has been delayed by at least eight hours. It means those travelling to Portsmouth won't arrive until 4.30pm on Christmas Eve afternoon. And those travelling around the UK by road or rail are being warned to face further disruption. 27 rail operators have either cancelled or amended trains.

  15. Things getting pretty lively down here in Jersey - currently F7 G50 due to increase in the next hour or two G8 to SG9 G60. Our lifeboat is currently out together with the Guernsey and French lifeboats searching for 2 people missing on board a vessel that was heading towards the Ecrehous at 6pm. Our search and rescue plane was also out but has made a crash landing in a field in the north of the island as it was experiencing difficulties. Thankfully, all 5 crew on board are reportedly safe and well but it does make me wonder at this time what on earth were the two people thinking heading out in this weather in the first place! http://www.channelonline.tv/channelonline/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=507984
  16. Battening down the hatches here in Jersey right now. Rain has just started to fall and the wind is steadily increasing. High tide for us is at a little after 6pm so we are expecting some spillage along our south facing coasts although our highest tides are not expected until Tuesday. Stay safe peeps 😊
  17. An hour or so of heavy intermittent rain, lightning and thunder here - just what the weather doctor ordered
  18. Headed this way and expecting it here in the next hour or so
  19. Temp has recently fallen to 1.5C at Jersey Airport and precipitation is becoming more wintry
  20. Our local shipping forecast (just updated) is forecasting the risk of snow near the french coast. It's still sleeting here now so I wouldn't be too surprised to see some of the white stuff here overnight especially if Alderney has already had some http://www.jerseymet.gov.je/
  21. I can confirm sleet here on high ground in St Helier Jersey - current temp at Jersey Airport 2.7C
  22. looking like Jersey could get a pasting again according to those charts
