  1. Definitely a much higher chance of breaking the 2006 record than finishing below 16C IMO.
  2. For all the talk of this being a cool day- Rostherne still managed 22.4C around lunch time. Still a warm day for September.
  3. A really amazing spell here- hard to remember a more prolonged unbroken spell of warmth/heat in these parts at any time of year. 2nd 23.6C 3rd 25.3C 4th 27.8C 5th 26.7C 6th 27.7C 7th 28.0C 8th 28.0C 9th 28.4C 10th 26.3C We've not quite reached 30C in the spell (Thursday would have had a chance of that without the cloud cover) and not as hot as some places further south, but that is a remarkable run of consistent heat.
  4. Another very warm night- Manchester Airport remained above 18C for the entire night.
  5. Far too early to make those sorts of assertions. The ECM actually looks pretty warm towards the end of the week. I also think to go below 16C we would need a cooler high pressure with chilly nights (which doesn't look like happening at the moment). A trough over the UK probably wouldn't be that cool overall due to the cloud cover at night.
  6. That's all about to change though isn't it...wouldn't have thought it'll be a problem until next summer after tonight.
  7. Very true Mark- there were some saying it was going to be a 'blink and you'll miss it' spell, despite all evidence pointing to the contrary. Those people are very quiet now. Even away from the SE, we've reached 27C+ on 6 consecutive days.
  8. Not massively so though- there were two wetter days here on the 28th and 31st that saw slightly suppressed temps, but it was fairly warm otherwise.
  9. 2019 was an obvious one- but it's the only one I can think of. Going back through the records I couldn't find another example of that sort of heat in the last few days of the month.
  10. This is odd as I live near the airport and heard nothing and saw no lightning last night. There doesn't appear to have been a drop of rain here either.
  11. 28.4C recorded at Rostherne today- matching the highest temp we recorded in September 2021 and the warmest day of the spell here. 3 consecutive days that have exceeded 28C here now and Wednesday was 27.7C.
  12. Tomorrow must have a good chance as well as tonight/tomorrow night are looking very warm. If the minimum ends up around 17C it won't take a particularly hot day to take the mean over 20C for the day.
  13. It begs the question as well...will this even be the last of the heat we see in September? I would not be surprised to see another hot spell before the end of the month now (although not on this level).
  14. I don't think anyone could have predicted something of this magnitude in September though. This is one of the best spells I can remember at any time of year in terms of duration of the heat.
  15. If someone had told me this was going to happen even 2 weeks ago, I'd have laughed in their face. An absolutely extraordinary weather event- especially after a relatively poor July and August.
  16. I think the lack of breeze is also notable- usually we have more of a breeze in humid spells in this country. There has been very little breeze to speak or over the last few days which adds to the humid feel. I also normally disagree when people say hot weather 'feels hotter and more humid' here than abroad. I might be inclined to agree on this occasion.
  17. Got to say this is one of the most humid feeling days I can ever remember in this country- at any time of year. I'm sweating even sitting still in it. I personally enjoy this for the novelty factor and knowing I'm going to be feeling cold for 6 months very soon. However it would be challenging if summers were like this from start to finish all the time. Adaptations would have to be made to homes etc. I can't believe anyone can say today feels less hot than a similarly hot day in July. I almost feel the lower sun makes it feel more humid if anything.
  18. It is wonderful to be able to be in shorts and t-shirt at midnight in this country and not feel cold- how often does it happen? There was a great atmosphere in Manchester city centre yesterday evening with a real buzz and lots of people walking around and eating outside. And it's the 2nd week of September! It's not going to last forever so might as well make the most of it.
  19. Rostherne recorded 37.7C on July 19th 2022 which is the closest official site for Manchester. So the record is a rounded 38C. Wikipedia has this incorrect at the moment.
  20. That Bramham figure was incredible- still hard to believe now. 38C was also exceeded in the NW but the hottest air hung on in the east just that bit longer through peak heating hours to send the temp up even further. I recall we hit 30C at 8am here on that day and I thought 40C was on the cards- the hottest air just moved away before it could quite get there.
  21. Very true. I was in Manchester city centre this evening and it felt incredibly warm and still. The temp in the centre was around 25/26C at 9.30pm. I live out past the airport so it was interesting to see the temp come down in the car as I drove out of town. The issue is there is no urban or even semi-urban station in the area- the city centre is always warmer than the airport/Rostherne by a couple of degrees at least in this sort of spell but we never see figures due to the lack of official sites. I'm sure the city centre will have stayed above 20C on numerous nights this week.
  22. Why is there no option for 'I'm thoroughly enjoying this spell for what it is' rather than referencing July? That would get my vote. Yes July was poor but it's gone now- no point crying over spilled milk.
  23. Temps have still reached forecast values here- there has been just enough sunshine to allow that. Currently 27.5C at Rostherne.
  24. Quite frustrating how we've not quite been able to shake off this high cloud today. Plenty of sunnier periods during the day but mostly milky skies. Only about 15 miles to the east of here (I'm in Wilmslow) it's been much clearer most of the afternoon.
