  1. Sadly, we are running out of precipitation now.

If you look at the radar, the top half of the front is starting to pivot, and once it gets to a certain point it should move due south back over us.  It's a gamble, but this is still 1000X better than last year (for snow I mean :-D)

Has been rather a boring winter so far, last winter we at least interesting watching all those storms move in every other day.

Well, still two months left of winter and even 3 if you class march :-)

  2. Hopefully that colder air tucked in behind that Low Pressure system will ensure some sleet and snow starts ganging up on us again. Especially with the wintry shower chances tomorrow. :good:

The fax chart has a decaying occluded front across the west Midlands. so, fingers crossed ay? :-)

  3. Meh! heavy rain here now melting all the snow we've had.

Hopefully the 'hook' of the low will drag the upper air temps back down as it passes S/E .

Still, it's broke the duck of not having any lying snow for a whole year lol

  4. Has completely stopped here now. A real shame it didn't last longer but we've been lucky here as there is a good covering of snow out there.

Looks like some bits and pieces could come through this evening...and maybe some quite heavy snow looking at the radar. After that, I can see it turning very icy indeed overnight.

Bad luck to those in the West Midlands who didn't get much snow....if only it could have stuck around for longer.

Nope! just wait for round 2 to start :-)

  5. Would love to see a covering of snow which lasts, rather than the mush we usually get, and just one day out too ('just' missed Christmas day itself!), still after last year, we deserve a decent blizzard!

Noticed a few showers getting through the Cheshire gap, are they rain still atm?

  6. It looks to me as though this "storm" is getting less and less each run.

The latest FAX chart for Saturday midday has it centred over the Low Countries at 995mb, it was 984mb off the Norfolk Coast at the same time in the previous FAX chart.

Really must be the most bazaar period of forecasting that has been in the last 10 years? I still have no clue what it's going to be like in 5 days time,  well, maybe high pressure, but nothing after that.....it's like the good old days again :-)

  7. Well, we can be safe in the knowledge that a year without snow is extremely unusual and rare, ecen rarer than winters like 2010 and 1981.

So the chance that we have another totally snowless year is so remote it's not even worth betting on.

Still, if I put a large enough bet onto it being snowless, it would rival 1947 due to sod's law :-D

Perhaps we should all bet on a snowless winter, we cannot lose :-D

  8. Well i'm in pessimistic mode today.

To my relatively untrained eye i'm beginning to see a repeat of last Winter looming - raging zonality with an occasional visit from the azores high for the far south.

I could accept another winter like last year, at least it wasn't constantly teasing us with major cold spells like this year.

If it's gonna be a repeat, then would the charts please, please, please, just get on with it and show mild.

At least I won't be wasting my time scanning over hundreds of pages of data to try to find that glimmer of winter which we seem to have lost for almost 2 damn years by now!   :nonono:

  9. i mentioned yesterday that this winter is shaping up to be one of frustration for cold/snow lovers as real potential appears to be failing to get past first base. that has been the pattern since early november when the first shot at a colder evolution raised its head. this might be the theme all winter, because no matter how a seemingly elequent or apparently well reasoned a case for a colder evolution has been made.... it doesnt appear to be happening this side of the new year.

I think it's because we actually enjoy a good old ramp, I know I do. Because 99% of the time anything shown in the charts other than mild, doesn't come off.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, in fact it makes it a better place for it.

We all live in hope of something we can never achieve, even you, but without those dreams, we may as well be dead.
