  1. Looks like the Welsh mountains are actually spawning snow showers instead of stealing them. Just goes to show you cannot forecast snow, just the parameters.

there will be a few light showers, but I certainly expect no real lying snow at low levels, and milder thursday night through to Fri night

Can we quote you on that? :-D

  2. Tonight and tomorrow seem to have downgraded for

the West Midlands looking at the forecast on bbc this morning.

    Very annoying, again.

Never believe a bbc forecast. Quite a few times it's been snowing heavily for hours and they cannot even force themselves to say 'periods of snow', it's always 'snow showers'.

You cannot predict snow with any great accuracy past 12 hours.

There will be quite a bit of snow about with this set up, even for the Midlands, we just have to radar watch.

    And remember............DON'T BELIEVE THE BBC!!.

  3. I think so, winds too westerly tomorrow night/thurs am for snow, when winds turn to the perfect angle NW, its too warm for snow, then Sunday snow is in the east, Monday wishbone, Tues high pressure building in

I'm thinking the same. I'm not gonna let it disappoint me any more than it already has......it can do what it wants :-D

  4. See Shefali isn't giving anything away for tomorrow onwards, the forecast only went to mid-morning.

They have the top temp tomorrow as 9'c, but falling. I bet it gets nowhere near that warm anywhere.

    (BBC's mild bias again)

  5. All I can do is assure you that nothing was intended to be patronising. Not much I can do if you don't accept that. The context I'm referring to is the one in which GH made the response you quoted. My subsequent post tried to clarify that I was not in fact targeting him in any way and i'm happy to think he now accepts that. I would disagree strongly that there's any "bullying" or "patronising" element to my posts. I was making an observation about a difference I can see on the model forum this winter compared to others

well, not many folk do admit that they might be wrong.
  6. Those mild sectors on Friday and Saturday are going to break some hearts.

I can see it now. A lot of disappointed people below 200m again!

Well let's just see if we can make it 2 whole years where we don't have lying snow for more than 30 minutes?

I might even go an put a bet on it....won't lose then? :-D

  7. But then you decide to post it here instead of asking me via pm and get a star like...Thanks only just noticed this post....I think the irony sums it up....Dumbed down charming but thanks for letting me know.

What you failed to mention by way in your dissection of the fact I've been a member ONLY 2 months was I explained why I felt we'd be in for a protracted cold spell further down the thread...Shame you felt the need to pick on my post but never mind.

Certainly didn't think I was harming anyone by posting it deary me.

Matey, there are rather more bullies than their should be on a public forum where no meteorological qualifications are needed to join, just enthusiasm.

I've been on this board now for a round 8 years now and have noticed it getting worse every year, and not just by the dumb' folk like us.

I think people forget that there are 3 model threads on this forum and if you feel the need to get away from the intellectually inferior, then you can go to the 'in depth model' thread.

So, basically, don't be bullied into silence and not thinking that your point of view is invalid, there are a lot of folk on here who don't get it right even 50% regardless of how revered they are.

    chin up matey :-)

  8. Looks like the GFS is coming up with its latest 'Tuts take charts'. I've already braced myself for the downgrades and ordered a fresh supply of Xanax :-D

If we get another let down from that model, I think quite a few people on here will have started to wonder whether the GFS' recent upgrade was for the better?

  9. I still feel like we'll get a good dumping in February. I'm not gonna get too p**sed off with it all yet.

I'm starting to wonder whether the GFS was updated for the better  or the worse? It seems to be lying to us constantly since the new update?

  10. On my thats was good just 2 or 3 inches in Cov and next to nowt in Bed'uth apparently!

'Black Bedduth' they called it, on account that it was such a big coal mining area, but now I'm starting to wonder whether it's because it'll never be white? :-(

  11. Thats quite a shocker of a stat. AGW dare I say.. :diablo:

Beware it includes PWS but on the whole you get an idea. The air is drier in SE.

It was a decent cover in Coventry Dec 2010 I was there! 2 or 3 inches just a mile from you!

Nope I watched the damn thing slide past here, If you like, i'll find the episode in the records tomorrow?

  12. For 1990-2014 the average days of snow lying here in December is 1.76 days. But take out 2010 and it falls to 0.96. That year had almost half of the total in that 25-year period. 13 of those 25 years had 0 days.

Stop trying to cheer us all up :-D

But yes since1990 poor, although there was Feb 1991, Jan 1987.  Jan and Dec 2010 must have had good runs of snow lying, there was here ?

I have pictures of the 1/4" snowcover here, which evaporated over the weeks. But we actually got an inch of frost!

  13. 1979, 1981/82 off the top of my head, if not 30 days close too it.

I remember 1981. My sister and a few mates rolled a snowball from one end of the road to the other (around 200 yrds) then we all hollowed it out and made an 'igloo'.  Then they got a 3 year old muggins to go inside and my damn sister jumped on it and her mates! >> :-D

    Them were the days! :-)

  14. Makes not a jot of difference in the Winter its all about the airmass.

Trouble is that average consists of years with over 30 days and the other more plentiful with near zero!

Well, we haven't exactly been spoilt in North Warwickshire since 1990 though. Not 30 days lying snow here in 40 years surely?

  15. Right so the colder air comes back in briefly on Thursday, what a p**s take, just before the mild air pull in to melt the slight frost we'll have.

There is something seriously wrong now.....it's not been like this in my whole 37 years on earth!

  16. Thats the problem.  The gods had a conferance (well, okay a left trouser leg-up in Valhalla) in October and listened to everyone.

And for every person in Britain who wanted a severe, cold, snowy winter there were 10,000 who said they would be happy never to see snow again ....

    Sad, but true.

Trouble is, I don't want severe cold, I just want the 5-7 days average lying snow per year, for this area!! ><

  17. Temp 2.9 Dew point 1.3 now ........Didn't get anything but cold rain with some sleety flakes dotted about....

What the hell is wrong with the weather that they can get more snow in Saudi Arabia and Jordan than in the UK, over 1000 miles north??

Right, ok, so we have February left.....please, please, please, please can some god or other, get their act together? :-D
