  1. Definately overdue a dry spell..

Last year second wettest year on record and its relentless all this rain this year apart from that very welcome cold dry spell mid january..

Last march was the wettest since 1981..

  2.  Metwatch

    1988/89 how many then

1989/90 I suspect that was low..But zero air here in 2013/14 is a bit strange, atlantic driven,we had more snow that winter to this though..

     North-Easterly Blast

Yes I agree with that,I didn t go back that far but as December 1933 was the coldest it looked very dry and blocked..

A winter ending ending in 3/4 no real classics but 1953/4 was more potent from the east and we can still get cold like that now and much more as 2018 february showed upper air..

Cold snap/spell end of february more or less what we can get now..

  3. Lets see a few mild charts in this winter..

There were some slight thaws mid month: there was an appreciable thaw on the 9th, mas winds turned briefly to the south; and some places in the south had a thaw of 4 hours on Valentine's Day, as the temperatures struggled up to 1C, before it started snowing again.

It was slightly less cold midmonth, as winds turned slightly more northerly; however, many places still managed to stay beneath freezing from the 14-15th.

The weather turned less cold on the 26th, with some places having the first frost-free night of the month.

  4. Well this could go in the winter thread of the spring thread..

But to see a december at a crazy record temperature of 9.7c  in 2015 to see a May much colder in comparison at 9.1c in 1996 only 5 years previous december came in at at record low of -0.7c at 2010..

But so far this february is going to be rated 0/10 so far..it may make -1/10 yet..

  5. Whatever happened to this site it had everything historic windspeeds..etc..

Climate graphs in Shawbury, from 1973 to 2022.

    EN.TUTIEMPO.NET

The main climate chart for Shawbury shows data for 49 years, from 1973 to 2023.

Had to go to a site abroad to find out unless there is another one which I ve had no luck finding yet..

Edit oh I see its still there, just pressed wrong button..

  6.  TheOgre

Well february 2007 gave a good winter spell heaviest snowfall since 1988 december..

And havn t checked the other  two years 2011 was pretty boring I think, the beauty of having weather records and archive charts which I love to see again and again..

February 2020 was another record breaking smash very stormy month the wettest in living memory by far a truly disturbed month and the atlantic was so powerful we had cold westerlies and snowfall pretty much the last time we had cold zonality..

This month is chalk and cheese..

  7.  I remember Atlantic 252

It certainly can be 1990 first record warm feb day solar max, but we ll pick an extreme year record breaking and its in your era 1998..

A record temperature of 13.5c then 15c by the romantic day..then by March 1st we had 1 inch of snow shortlived..

Then we had a big surprise didn t watch any forecast at that time we had a blizzard with 6 inches of snow Nly gales..

Followed by another blizzard, other snow had thawed except drifts, but 9 inches of snow it was nothing like I ve seen before in april..Next time that happend was April 2000 and April 2012..April 1998 remains as the snowiest april on record here..

  8. Summer is all about dry settled spells a few heatwaves and mainly thunderstorms in my book..and lovely humid air and last June was perfect..Early 1980s style for thunderstorms thunder clouds...

July wasn t perfect far from it did produce corking thunderstorms one day though but from then on yes its the pest from the west back with avengence..

August was better as that at least gave a couple of shortlived mind settled spells it wasn t very warm really..

Summer came back in september with that record breaking heat..

  9.  I remember Atlantic 252

Thats because childhood memories are the best, memory is a very strange thing..

Yes the 90s were good at times nothing exceptional only for unprecidendent wind storms and february 1991 for cold pooling..

We ve seen much more exceptional weather of all sorts since I joined this site back in july 2006..Many records broken cold deep snow heat floods the kitchen sink..

For me of course it would be the mid 80s..

As for the 70s those were hit and miss..I will say the 70s were not great..

Whatever happened here the cold dips so far to the west,I ve seen this many times but this is intense..

  10. That was winter of 1978/79 say no more the cold just lasted on and on..

Last march heavy snow was the highlight of the year with 8inches of snow drifting could ve done without the mild sector of rain then freezing rain, followed that night by a NEly blizzard and 5 extra inches of snow on top of huge damage to 1 inch of ice on trees a record in itself..higher up..
