  1. @Polar Maritime

Odd gust touching 70mph here on the Davis, with heavy rain. The wind is howling through the plantation at the back of the house dec 8th..

Thats strange I didn t recall anything for that night here..unlike last night january 22nd..severe gale..

Theres also another day in december that TM had gusts 70 or 80mph more of a NW looks impressive on the chart nothing much here from that either..

  2. Gale force winds in shropshire last night fresh gale at 44mph we had a major blackout for 8 hours from 8.25pm and a severe gale force wind..

I would say stronger mean winds although other night was similar huge gusts not groundbreaking..but mean speeds are impressive..

  3. Overall in general this turned out to be the biggest most widespread storm damaging etc in 10 years..

Winds whipped up here at 11pm so the first severe gale of the season..

Heard that 99mph gust over northunberland..

49 gusting upto 77mph just west of here is year a severe gale..

You must have missed the news and the coverage and ignored the named storms list. it was not a squall we had several hours of 60+mph gusts and someone was killed during that storm too. Tonight is far from the first storm of winter.

This one you re on about I m guessing..there were gales but thats pretty normal for winter..

Currently interesting wind map...nothing much going on here yet except very wet and windy..

If you'd asked me beforehand what conditions to have at a frontal incursion, I would have listed the following:

    - 2m temp sub-zero

    - freezing dewpoint

    - heavy precipitation

    - no wind

    - negative tilt to the front

I ticked all of those last night and it was still rain right from the off. Crap again.

A blast from the past The EnForcer is back..

It wasn t powdery snow here dry snow then damp now wet..

Stunning depth of cold across the east. Haven't seen anything like that for a long time, if ever. Stark differences for them compared to (comparitively) warm winter spells they've had in recent years. As long as that is perpetuated then we have increased chances of tapping into it. Very exciting times and a treat considering how awesome it was watching the models this time last year. Just hope it doesn't fall apart like last year!

Outstanding start to winter, last years cold spell started 10 days later strange a year later ok the atlantic is fighting back like a madman..

It is clear from geological evidence that the split from Iceland to the Azores has happened before. The scripted drama of the Pangea breakup has Eurasia spreading while the Pacific compresses, which makes this split inevitable. The Iceland volcanoes are not super volcanoes, but like all volcanoes require residents to evacuate temporarily. This spate of quakes and crevasses is a result of the pulling apart of the N American Continent - the New Madrid Rupture.

The Mainland Portion of N America is bound to the Eurasian Plate to the East and North, but the Mainland of N America is also being pulled West and South during the New Madrid Rupture process, dropping onto Mexico. The SE Portion is being pulled East with Africa. Until the New Madrid Rupture completes, releasing any hold the SE Portion had upon the Mainland Portion in Canada, the border tug tearing Iceland apart will continue. Given the pending New Madrid Rupture, Iceland’s pain will soon end.

The week is off to a shaky start along the New Madrid Fault in Missouri. There's been a sudden uptick of quakes with 4 being reported in just a few hours time and nearly 20 over the past 7 days.
