  1. Had a great drive from Kent to Colchester this morning, chasing the storms all the way! When I got there had 3 storm cells rumbling around and saw multiple cg's on my way. Good convective day! So is that it for the SE?
  2. Thanks for that Nick, I remember that and it's good to finally put a date to it. I was out in Tenterden with my wife's family that night and I remember it being quite cool with light rain when we went in to the restaurant. By the time we left the storm had come and we dashed to the car, the drive home was a bit interesting with flash floods and monsoon type rain. Got home and the lightning was really kicking off by then, it was probably one of the scariest storms Ive been in, top 3 anyway! Just with the shear number of strikes and constant booming thunder. But nothing compares to the Great Kent Supercell. July 2007? I remember you missed that one, being up north somewhere!
  3. Nothing breaking through the cap here on the m3 yet, lunch finished, time to get on! Very warm out, peak heat yet to come, it could happen for a few lucky souls but right now though its solidly capped. I can actually see these small cu's hitting the ceiling and fizzling into stratus.
  4. I'm at fleet services on the m3, just watching a line of small cumulus forming overhead, some taller towers/ congested mixed in. Convergence?
  5. Looks good for the show this weekend doesn't it! Having not been to the RIAT for many years I'm really looking forward to it now! Gonna be hot hot hot, must remember the suntan lotion and sunglasses. Last time I went we were in the VIP area keeping cool, but this year I'll be roughing it in the crowd, getting burnt!
  6. I'm doing the RIAT at fairford this year. Second time ive been, last time was 1987! Amazing show that was, vulcan was there pre retirement, lightning doing it's famous tailwalk right in front of the crowdline. With the yanks missing this year I hope the weather holds to compensate!
  7. I'm dreaming of the last glass of white wine in the bottle left over from last night that's been chilling ever since....oh and the four cans of Stella sitting next to it! I can just picture the condensation running down the glass.... Thirsty yet?
  8. Well, just some low frequency, bass rumbles, felt rather than heard in the early hours this morning was as good as it got here. I don't hold out much hope for home grown storms today unless we can get some very high temps. Cap likely too strong out west and further east, where I am. It's murky cloud. dross from all that convection out east which at the moment is inhibiting temps at the surface. Saying all that though, potential is there for imports, a quick look at sat and radar show storms continuing to fire up over northern France, cloud is burning off over North East France as we speak and temps are likely to climb dramatically there, fueling more storms. Now, just watch Belgium get hammered by them!
  9. I can't resisit, is a stupid scan scanning for stupidity? If so I hope they don't find to much! Either way, hope it all goes ok.
  10. Hmm, it's difficult to decide. Do I spend this years bonus on storm chasing with Kaddy which will likely result in losing my job and divorcing my wife or do I spend the money on a shed and new windows for the house?
  11. Fairly heavy persistent snow now in Ashford but it's not settling. Really playing havoc now with business, soft fruit season now delayed by 3-4 weeks! Easter sales on ornamental plants down by 40%.
  12. Well I've just cancelled my appointments for the day, was supposed to travel from ashford to chichester but it's nothing that can't wait until tomorrow. Not worth risking the trip. Foolishly though I've come in to the office instead of bunking off!
  13. I think you are right. An hour ago heavy precipitation was definately mid channel but is now scraping beachy head and dungeness. Painfully slow but as the low heads east we should be in the firing line. How far north it will go is still up for debate but the line between convective showers and frontal precipitation is definately beginning to blur on radar here in Ashford.
  14. I imagine it's ground warmth. We had 12 C last week and the ground temps have increased considerably. Surfaces which offer greater insulation from the radiated heat such as grass allow snow to settle. Hard surfaces will have warmed quicker last week and are poorly insulated so snow melts on contact.
  15. Some heavy persistent snow here in Ashford but accumulations not reflecting what's falling. Cold airmass appears to be fighting hard against the low pressure causing all that lovely precipitation over the channel. The question is will this remain the case or will the low be able to push back more?
  16. Well just be sure to leave the roof up on your car, no one wants to see you topless Coast!
  17. I love these ancient pagan timetables of the year. I first started to get interested when I got married on the the 1st August and found out that this was Lammas day in the old calendar. To me these ancient festivals have much more meaning than any of the Christian festivals which basically usurped the old festivals and made them their own. I love this time of year and find great delight in seeing the first of the spring flowers, especially if they happen to be poking their heads above the snow!
  18. The front doesn't seem to be making much progress north in the last 30 mins, grinding to a halt? So close I could almost spit on it! I'm tempted to take a little drive...
  19. Got about 6 kentimeters here in Ashford, not expecting to add too much more to that now, forecasts pretty much nailed it IMO.
  20. Nothing that we have missed out on has been 'bang on' the day before, in fact I would say most of the forecasting within 48 hours has been bang on!
  21. She's on the mend now I think but her sleep patterns are all screwed up, hence we are up and full of beans at 3am! Anyway, gives me a chance to check the radar!
  22. Morning all! Baby has woken me up, she has flu bless her, got a couple of cm's here now which is nice!
  23. Well the next hour or so should be crunch time for us in East Kent. If the front can just push a little further we will be in the snow zone when it stalls. If the forecasts are correct it should just about get to Ashford before slipping away and fragmenting but as we all know, 50 miles either way can make all the difference! Sunday will hopefully be our compensation but just you watch that head off through Belgium! lol
