  1. The only time when i get 'scared' during thunderstorms is when CG lightning is right over your house because the fear of your house gets struck or hits a tree(trees are right outside of my house). CC lightning overhead i'm not too fussed about nor sheet lightning. Though i don't mind CG lightning being a few miles away. I got more of a fasonation of storms rather than a phobia. Other reason i don't get a phobia perhaps because 'severe' storms rarely happen here, from what i remember i only witness 2 severe storms one was in Autumn(think it was then but some other person from T&W can correct me if i am wrong) 2000 when it was quite a foggy night then we had a storm consists of sheet lightning and the one on the 31st August 2005.
  2. As this area is in the precipitation shadow, in winter we never Get really good frontal snow events. Last time frontal snow tried to come here(think it was in winter 05/06) it was quite an dissapointment because the snow was very light and never got any heavier. Fortunatley we already had lying snow so plenty of snow on the ground already. But apart from that this region is very good for snow events(Albeit you got to be at least 10 miles from the coast for Northerlies) and i could be in a much worse location. eg NW England. Saying that i will always love a really good frontal snow event to happen here - never experianced persistant moderate-heavy snow.
  3. I'll be interested how much rain has fallen in Stornoway and other parts of the Western isles. Radar shows some heavy rainfall this afternoon over there. I have to say this(no doubt i will get critisized), i find it quite sad and dissapointing aswell as bias you could say theres not alot of media coverage now of the flooding in NW Scotland. If this happened in England the flooding will be on the news as a mian story but as its happening in Scotland theres seem to be very little(if any) coverage. And where are the warnings from Net weather and metcheck? Theres none is that because its in NW Scotland? As i'm sure if it happened in England and Wales warnings will be out now from both sites.
  4. Well as TWS says the MO rejected that figure so 27C was never reached. However i still feel that there may of been some fohen effect going on yesterday but it was not enough to rise the temps up alot. Back to today - mixed bag really. Though i don't records tempertures this morning felt warm but as we went into the afternoon wind direction seemed to change and it felt quite a bit cooler especially in the wind. Wind then eased which left a pleasant end albeit quite cloudy end to the evening but feeling nice.
  5. Who knows, it probably was a faulty reading and i don't know weather the location it was observed had sun which caused the temperture rised and once its went back in it dropped. Its ashame because we will probably never know weather that will be a true reading now. Back to today BBC weather are saying Cambridge could get the highest temp today of 31C so hopefully 30+ will be broken and i don't just mean in London because that will be nothing special.
  6. It is a big jump but tempertures can drop as quick just as easily. I honesty think its the fhon effect because it was cloudy for most of the morning and the temp was recorded at about 23C but as soon as the sun came out it risen(and coinscidently when the sun went in when the temp dropped again). If stormchaser said Newcastle Airport recorded 27C maybe its true but i don't know if they got the observation there or somewhere else in Newcastle. Must admit where i was did not felt 27C but i was slightly higher up at the time.
  7. Hi Weatherguy1 welcome to NW - could you put your location in your avater please so we know where you are from  . I think thats possible and like you said the clouds did break at 1 ish and seemed to fill back in an hour later so maybe that how the temperture rose today? And usually this side of the pennines is warmer when the winds go across them so maybe that effect got something as you said?
  8. And thanks to the wind blowing over the pennines its helps breaking the cloud up and feeling quite warm. Wind is quite cool but i assume its because i'm higher up(I'm not in me location of what you see[Pelaw] atm). Those Pennines are brillant at times for days like these but i hate them when they block showers sometimes.
  9. Actually it has been raining in parts of Tyneside this morning. Whilst i was out in around Gateshead i could see the rain falling over Gateshead and Newcastle way. Did get a few lightish showers but its seems the radar did not pick the rain drops up.
  10. Its nice to see we can still have below average months in this day and age. Its just ashame it can't happen in Winter, if people want a below average month in Winter then cold and dry it has to be rather than cold and wet(Which is the best scnario). Just prooves that the weather is not as prdictable as its seems and that talk of the MO of 2007 being the hottest year ever looks a bit silly now and that there winter forecasts at this stage should be taken as a pinch of salt.
  11. Think it will be a warm start to Auguest but then it looks downhill so i say 16.6 as the warm start will help to keep the month above average.
  12. Why use the word Mini-tornado i never know? Tornados weather big or small are mesured by a scale of F1 F2 etc but not words like mini or small. Come on BBC you can do better.
  13. May i ask why did Liam Dutton did not stay at the BBC weather centre for long? Was it something to do with this Met Office qualifications? Back on topic i think Dan needs a good rest after spending his time in Tweksbury and i wonder why people critisixe him. He makes the weather fun to watch and most importantly he use humerous examples in what is going on e.g Its like i gone mad with my crayons or splashing the map with blue paint. I don't think its dumbing down because at the end of the day most people who watches the weather are not even amatur level so i think his catchy phrases helps people(helps me)
  14. Mixed day today. Had 2 and a bit hours of rain then the sun eventully came out this evening and as the sun set a shower was coming from the NW and the base of the cloud had a nice pink glow to it and just had a light shower. Was quite chilly underneath the rain this afternoon. Mark your min temperture is higher than your Max temperture.
  15. Maybe his personality is dull but i think he needs a new challange as all he ever does is a 30 sec broadcast for ITV. He should consider moving the next step in his broadcasting IMO either the beeb or Sky news.(and not move him to a channel which still uses symbols). And who knows his personality may change.
  16. I like Dan Corbett as he makes watching the weather interesting but what annoys me is that he sometimes go on the right hand size so he in effect blocking the view of some regions(why can't he not stay on the left hand side). I like Rob aswell but he tends to blabber on a bit and when(for example N Ireland) a region appears his blabber on makes him miss a region or he says very little for example video of Rob presenting the weather on Youtube and he says when its get to N Ireland ''This is your journey to work'' which is poor and blind people will not know what the weather be like(e.g is it going to rain, sunshine etc). I like Tomasz aswell he looks very interested in doing the weather and seems very excited aswell. Like Supercell pointed he was the forecaster who predicted tornados and he got it spot on so credit where it due. Just ashame that he called the shetland isles 'no mans land' and he got suspended by the beeb because of that comment(is that true?) I love Helen Willets(anyone know when shes coming back?) presenting the weather as she lits up my morning when she presening on Breakfast much better than Carol should make her a sports presenter so it will make her and Chris love in get ever so closer. I like most of the presenters in truthness and they are better than the ITV presenters(though i feel Martyn Davis should moved to the beeb as he can be quite a good forecaster) who only give 30 seconds weather revies. Edit: Yep Shuggee he did looked a bit 'lost'. Obviously not use of an outside weather broadcast it seems.
  17. That is awfully high and quite concerning, Hopefully it will cool down soon or we are going to see more Artic ice melting which of corse is not what we want.
  18. It does look like a dust devil to me. Judging by the ground where it was filmed i would imagine it would be the same where the possble dust devil is. It does not look like a tornado to me as it does not move much.
  19. I would not build your hopes up Stuart because you been dissapointed before. I would think negative if i was you.
  20. Apprantly there was a funnel cloud in Aberdeen today according to xcweather so if you look on there site you will se it reported. I don't know if this is accurate but interesting none the less.
  21. I'm sure Trickey been on today but earlier this morning don't know about the other 2. It does not look like being a good week this week i'm afraid so i think theres worse to come before its gets better but fingers crossed that it won't be as bad as first thought.
  22. Nope but you can guess what the forecast would be though. I presume that after the 'dry' day on Tuesday it will be wet again thanks to weather fronts sweeping through.
  23. Yep Tuesday looks like being the best day next week, enjoy it whilst its lasts is all i say.
  24. Daily mail headline tomorrow of mid-summer monsoon so typical of the media tut tut. I also sympathise whos been affected but in all fairness this has been a good call from the Met office of this event so credit where its due.
  25. I think there be rain on it still by the time its gets here but light/moderate and nothing exciting. Guess its a good thing it may weaken because me bedroom faces East and with a E wind and heavy rain battering the window i won't be able to sleep so theres it advantages.
