  1. Plenty of cloud cover over the last 36 hours resulting in not much daily temperature change. Yesterdays max/min was 15/13c, and so far today 13/12c, not much change over the coming days apart from Friday morning where I could see the coldest temp of the Autumn so far. Speaking of which a possibility for northern/western areas to see some ground frosts early next week as high pressure briefly topples over us.

Certainly has had an Autumn feel to it since Friday be it the low sun angle, the chily wind, the dew today.

Shap was at 7C when i went to bed too, wonder what the lowest minima was somewhere.

A few unofficial weather stations in the North York Moors were at 3/4c this morning. Not sure about the coldest official station, Shaps temperature for some reason rose as the night went on, the coldest I can find is Topcliffe at 5.4c.

associate early season air frosts with valleys/glens/prone cold spots such as Benson rather than high places. So I'm not sure you are say something that you are not expecting an air frost until November for your location given your altitude. Remember cold air sinks.

Looking at the recently-changed patterns of sea-surface temperatures, QBO and from my prediction to where Autumn 2016 is now likely to go I am not now holding out much hope of air-frost before November for the great majority of us, not even for where I live at over 400 metres up in the North Pennines. And that is saying something!

Even though Alston is 400m asl, it is actually in a valley, surrounded by hills somewhat 100-200m higher than the village, so therefore I would imagine it is a very good frost hollow even at that altitude.

It will be a very long winter if you are already looking at what ONE day in December MIGHT turn out to be!

Don't let me spoil your fun though but please do not take outputs by any model at this time scale other than with large doses of salt.

Need a truck full of salt John. Don't forget the CFS is the most accurate model :pardon:

Seems like August was actually a good month widely across the UK. Nearly everywhere was sunnier than average. Even where rainfall was above average like here we still had in excess of 200 hours of sun. We had a similar number of rain days as most places down south (5-10) despite us being much wetter overall, reflecting how most of it fell on just 2 days - with one day having more rain than all of July!

Yeh even though we saw above average rainfall, a lot fell in just a few days towards the end of the month, with plenty of sunshine for the most part.

Final day of summer 2016...another season goes by devoid of anything noteworthy storm wise in this neck of the woods!

Same here Crewe, we had one storm near York in early April that I chased but nothing since. Even with a few plumes we never even got close to a storm. At least I've saved some petrol money and can spend it on snow chasing instead this coming winter.

I've not seen this mornings forecast for Gaston, but I know the recent ones have been quite favourable.

It's prettymurky here. no idea on temperature. my weather station broke a little while ago and I've still not got around to replacing it .

Stocksbridge currently recording between 16-18c a bit lower down that you. Better get it fixed for winter :p

we just had heavy rain for most of the day.. but yeah. started out with bright sunshine!

My eyes are focused on next weekend - off to the IOW for a couple of weeks so I've been looking at the charts and the model threads, it's looking rather good for at least the first week.

of course, Gaston my still have something to say about that....

Looking at this mornings charts, Gaston could actually be of help for your holiday, riding the jet to the North of the U.K. which allows high pressure to build from the South. Along way off mind but looking ok for now. Back home in North Yorkshire, may aswell stay in bed all day, forecast 16c Max and cloudy/murky :nonono:
