  1. Looks like a streamer setting up just north of Whitby, and they seem to be growing over land. If they can make it another 20 miles they are going straight towards my house, sods law I'm now in York.
  2. Just west of Whitby getting smashed by looks of radar! Nowt showing over Scarbs so if you got flakes thats a good sign!
  3. I think the next few days is our best shot at lying snowfall for this winter (Pickering/Malton). A new warning was issued a few hours ago updating the snow warning for this evening and overnight. 1-2 cm generally but 5cm poss on the NYM's. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings&regionName=yh&fcTime=1422835200
  4. Some showers brewing in the North sea heading towards Whitby/Moors area. Out and about at work in the van this evening so if I have gaps between my drops I will be chasing the showers
  5. Beautiful sunrise from behind the snow topped Wolds this morning. Proper cold has arrived now, although its funny how precip buggers off when the real cold turns up. Looked out this morning I couldn't see any frost and thought WTF! But the temp is -1.2c currently and dew -3.4c and bone dry out there, all the moisture from yesterday has disappeared, conditions are ripe for settling snow if any showers choose to come my way over the next few days.
  6. Yep just cottoned on to that now, was too busy looking at Tues/Weds. Heres the MetOs look on it : And heres the latest Hi res NMM: Looks like its a trough so could be some accumulating snowfall for some places. And also the main attraction about this feature is its NOT marginal. Here are the uppers for the same time: Generally -8c 850 hpa temps so it will be snow right down to sea level. Showers could also move inland and will head south through Lincolnshire.
  7. Don't understand the connection with winters and the Solar malarkey But what we need to remember so far this winter is we have had no HLB blocking, so the fact people such as yourself have seen 3 decent snowfalls is not bad going, its quite hard to get nationwide snowfall without it and requires a lot of luck. People winge about the Northerly saying its not cold like they used to be, but problem is its not a truely arctic sourced Northerly, which are usually associated with Greenie Highs and very cold air. The overall NH pattern has not been in favour for cold in the UK, so considering.. we haven't done too bad and I wont be giving up on snow until April arrives.
  8. Well last winter there was hardly any snow on the hills, this year there has been lots on the hills but small amounts at lower levels so at least we are trending in the right direction. Winter 15/16 harshest in 600 years? Yes please
  9. Well after my morning grumble I decided to go and find some snow seen as it wasn't coming to me. Did pretty much a full lap of the North York Moors, interesting contrasts between the east and west side, the east side had obviously been affected by the warm sectors over the last few days as there was no snow, not even on the highest peaks. The west side however had faired much better with snow down to 100metres, and significant accumulations over 200m. Heres a few pics, GRAPHIC WARNING-not for the snow starved!
  10. Yep, there is now no snow warning at all down the east coast until Wednesday now. And that's 96 hours away...
  11. Even my optimism is slowly fading for this Ne'rly in a few days, gradually we have seen very small downgrades over the course of every GFS run as the high pressure to the west nudges slightly closer making the flow slacker and it more of a brief affair. A few days ago I posted that GFS gives my areas of a 36 hour window for snow showers and ECM/UKMO a 24 hour period, hats off to UKMO more especially as that looks like it will be the closest which unfortunately was the worst outcome for snow. Still chances snow will be seen down the east coast and pushing inland, but how heavy, how far inland etc wont be predictable for somewhile yet. Moan over!
  12. Got some moderate snow showers here now, nice to see but not settling. Just as the cold air starts to come back in the shower activity will retreat east towards the coast.
  13. Cant remember last time we had one of those in the NE. They either have mild sectors or are capped with no convection, I feel the same frustration from you lads as the people in the eastern areas of my region. Hopefully we will see something Tues/Weds.
  14. I reckon il see sleet at best overnight, its not the area of precip over the border we should be looking at, the wind has now switched to NE as the shortwave moves down the North Sea, the showers out to sea are what will be making there way across the region overnight.
  15. Just to clarify WC, with regards to the heavier precip mainly east of Pennines, although still some lighter echoes towards your end.
  16. For those with Netweather extra radar, worth going back 24 hours and looking at the same time yesterday, almost a mirror especially whats going on over south east Scotland. Just been having a look at the NMM charts for this eve, and its looking like the warm sector will be over eastern areas between 12 and 5 tomorrow morning, however the heaviest precip looks to be between 6 and 11, by then the colder uppers (-4c to -6) have swept back in. This may drop the snowline however I'm still dubious of any low level snow unless showers make it over towards the Pennines.
  17. Just had a random snow shower here, left a covering on the usual cold surfaces. Same happened last night and I woke up to sleet so not holding my breath on tonight.
  18. Aye same old, thinking of moving to the Wolds, although "to get more snow in winter" isn't the greatest argument when choosing where to live with the other half. I don't care if its a 1 bedroom tent, if its 500m above sea level, I'm moving in...
  19. Temp 2.1c Dew Point -1.2c. What do ya reckon to overnight WC, looking at the available data myself I reckon similar to last night with snow confined to Moors/Wolds but MetO do talk of snow accumulations inland away from the coast, even at lower levels. Even York had a bit of settling snow this morning, not sure if we did but I woke up at 9am to sleet. Just back from a 5 mile headtorch trail run through Dalby Forest, lots of crunchy snow at the top above 200m.
  20. Great post, I reckon tonight will be similar to this mornings event, the warm sector of that shortwave moving down the coast will once again scupper the chances of any snow settling below 200m. The Wolds and Moors will see some more accumulations. My attention and Im sure yours in solely focused on Tuesday/Wednesday as we see the winds switch round to Northeast with uppers at around -7c, pushing those juicy showers inland. GFS shows the best outcome with a 36 hour window for snow showers, whereas UKMO/ECM looks slightly more shortlived at around 24 hours. Of course we could see disturbances for more significant snow or even upgrades on the longevity (for eg 06z GFS control run). Quick snapshot from Chopgate 200m up in the North York Moors this morning.
  21. Went to bed at 2am with a slight dusting and woke up to everything wet. Can see the wolds from my bedroom window looks like the settling snow line was around 150m. Some nice scenes on the road cameras around the moors and wolds.
  22. Just had a light snow shower here left a sugar coating. Temp raised from -0.8c to 0.1c
  23. First snow of the evening falling in the North York Moors.
  24. Skies as clear as you like and currently -0.8c. Strange to think that it could be raining in a few hours.
  25. Hes a tad early, NMM shows it arrive here 4-6am tomorrow. Looks like it could arrive by midnight!
