Couple of snapshots with regards to snow potential over the next few days.
Tomorrow evening we see a trough moving NW/SE running from the Lake District down to Lincolnshire with the possibility of back edge snowfall most likely over high ground in the Pennines/Peak District as colder upper's get wrapped around shortwave. The snow level could drop as the precip is shown to be locally heavy at times.
There looks to be a few snow shower's in Northern parts of England behind this trough.
The next area of interest is overnight tomorrow the winds veer round to the N/NE as there is a chance of snow showers running down the East coast possibly coming further inland, with upper's of -6/7c we could see snowfall down to low levels and also a good covering over elevated area's such as NorthYorkMoors and Yorkshire Wolds.
Already frosty here this evening at 1.4c and tomorrow night looks much colder with an air frost for most of our region.
Plenty to look forward to in the short term and long term for cold/snow lovers

Was some light snow initially, but soon turned to rain, then back to sleet and wet snow at times around 0230. Suspect there will be some patches on the higher Wolds roads on the way to work.
Top of Garrowby (243m) should be nice and white mate

Just good ol rain here overnight, looking at the North Yorkshire road cameras around my area snow fell and settled around 150m upwards.
-
-1c here. Precip should be here in an hour or so. Hoping for snow!
-
-1.5c here now. BBC mention some rural areas -6/7c doubt it will get to that here. This northerly breeze keeping the temp from plummeting. I reckon a -3c

Just done some check's with regards for tomorrow night and into Monday morning. Must say I'm fairly confident of see some snowfall even though I don't have much altitude. NMM, NAE, GFS, and MetO all showing snow for me although there is a small possibility of it being sleet. BBC graphics on this evening's video forecast look promising. Anyone in the North with some altitude is in for a treat, if the precipitation is heavy it will be big fat wet flakes
Currently -0.5c and the grass in my back garden (all shaded) has been frozen for around 50 hours!
-
Conflicting precipitation forecast's also Aaron, NMM showing the band breaking up but staying heavy on its western flank so giving your area the best chance of snowfall. MetO precipitation forecast showing it broken up and the heaviest area's over North and East Yorkshire. NAE just show's a steady band moving south but losing intensification around the Yorkshire area as it head's south. Radar watching it is I guess!
-
Slightly confusing the Met forecast's for tomorrow, they are going for heavy snow here yet 200m higher they are going for heavy sleet. Looks like its going to be a radar/security light checking night. Fingers crossed!
Just checked high res NMM, temps look good, dewpoints marginal, thicknesses are good but the 0c isotherm worries me, but it worried me in that late October cold spell yet it still fell as snow..... just need some heavy precip and I think and could see a covering.

Coldest night of Autumn so far with a minimum of -4.2c. Road condition's are treacherous due to surface run off water leaving the roads soaked over the last few days which have turned to sheet ice. Clear, very frosty and can see mist settling in the valley over the swollen river Derwent. Beautiful morning.
-
Not a bad run in the reliable time frame still plenty of snow chances although it looks like elevated area's in the North may be most beneficial. If we can get that colder air further west and the angle of attack from the Atlantic slighter further south then it's game on, and it wouldn't take much tweaking for this to happen.

Looking forward to the 12z, I'm remaining hopeful that we will see a few upgrades over the next few days. If all goes baps up I'm sure there will be plenty more opportunity's during December so lots to remain positive about. Here's to a corker of 12z runs

anyone got a link to the ecm ensemble graphs? cheers

Beautiful morning after a low of 0.7c

Some cold temps out there already this evening, widely 2/3c in rural areas. Chopgate, an excellent frost hollow in the NYM down to 0.3c already. Expecting an air frost tonight and tomorrow here

I've done it for quite a while, but I just use my iPhone with 3G, my girlfriend usually navigates me and she also has an iPad which is better for using the radar. For filming I use the very professional approach of steering with one hand and filming with another . Look's like you've got a nice kit!
Ps. Is that a Vectra?

Spotting with rain, quite windy but we are still on the cool side for early November really at 8.9C
Very low average temp for your location so far for November at 3.6c.
-
An early frost was all gone by 7am as the warm front moved through. Coldest night so after a minimum of -1.4c. Currently in York and it's a balmy 7c
-
Cloudy, cool and breezy start to the day here. 8.4C currently with an overnight low of 6.3c.
-
That is a substantial difference from last year, not sure what bearing it will have on the upcoming winter but surely its more likely to be positive. Really enjoying this thread good job guys

Had alot of wet snow/graupel and sleet showers overnight leaving a dusting in the village. Just about all melted now. Didn't have any convective snow showers here at all last winter so this is a good start to the winter.
Took a trip up to north York moors last night where there was a good covering but I was limited to where I go due to road conditions being too dangerous. Hoping to see some pics from 4wd of that area today.
-
Already a covering in the NYM above 700ft, going to head up there in a few hours. Plenty of showers packing in from the North Sea. Snow level will drop but i still think anywhere under 100m it will be a wintry mix. We shall see...
-
The Meto are now going for snow showers are far west as Otley, Harrogate and Pontefract. I really find this hard to believe as GFS and NMM dont support low level snow. I hope they are right. If you haven't already seen, go on Meto site and look at North Yorkshire for tomorrow night on their new map feature. Plenty of snow symbols
-
looks like we have a chance of some sleet and snow on the Yorkshire Moors on Fri evening .......what do you reckon ?
Hi Jeremy, there are going to be plenty of showers throughout tomorrow and into the evening, the big question is though... will it snow?. Looking at the NMM model, everything looks in place.. temp, dewpoint, thicknesses etc but the only thing missing is the 0C Isothem which is shown to be around 500/600m.
The Meto however are going for snow to lower levels tomorrow evening and overnight, for example they show snow showers in low lying area's such as Easingwold, York, Malton and Scun thorpe, so there is obviously still alot up in the air as to what could happen.
I reckon a safe bet if you want to see snow would be 200m upwards away from the coast in either the Yorkshire Wolds, Lincolnshire Wolds or more especially the North York Moors. Tomorrow certainly is going to be an interesting day, all eye's on the radar and the lampposts.

I think what is important for you area during easterly's is very cold uppers and tight isobars pushing the showers well inland, if the flow is too slack the showers will tend to die out around the vale of York and not reach the Pennines.
