  1. Evening @Mazย ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you for your kind words and understanding on this.ย
I know many, many folk like your good self who suffer with winter S.A.D. โ€ฆ So the fact that I tend to come alive in the dark time of the year; wellโ€ฆ I still get classed as โ€˜oddโ€™โ€ฆ But heyโ€ฆ It doesnโ€™t bother me. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I fully understand the feeling that you get from January onwardsโ€ฆ As during early July noticing the darkness slowly increasing and creeping in at silly oโ€™clock in the morning, when most normal folk are asleep, to me is a wonderful feeling of relief, and then slowly noticing the tiny increase in darkness at the evening end of the dayโ€ฆ Wow! ๐Ÿคฉย

It makes July (for me at any rate) a much more bearable month than Mayโ€ฆ Even though the day light levels are pretty much the same!ย

  2. Morning @markyoย ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Seconded, thirded and fourthed mate!ย
For me as a reverse S.A.D. sufferer Iโ€™m starting to enter worst time of the year; which as youโ€™ve rightly pointed out is this long hard climb to the summer solstice.ย
    ย

I am generally ok with everything until around the middle of April; and the. It hits me hardโ€ฆ Very hard.ย
    ย

But like you, Iโ€™m also looking forward to the first signs of those autumn mists and shadows once the summer solstice out of the way. ๐Ÿ˜Š

No pain, no gain I suppose. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  3. Hello everyone.ย ๐Ÿ™‚
Sorry for my recent quietness... Real life and what have you... *sigh*

Anywhooo... Tomorrow, Wednesday they 20th of March is the first quarter day of the year - the Vernal Equinox, (as we've already had the equilux).

So for us here in the Northern hemisphere we're about to enter the 'summer' part of the year.

I've already noticed that the quality of the sunlight has altered from what it was last month, it now appears to be much brighter, (when its not cloudy obviously. Lol).

The clocks change in a couple of weeks as well... And then it'll be full steam ahead towards the summer solstice!ย

  4. As the creeping tendrils of freezing mist and fog once more start to stalk the streetsโ€ฆ โ„๏ธ๐ŸŒซ๏ธโ„๏ธ๐ŸŒ…โ„๏ธ๐ŸŒซ๏ธโ„๏ธ

    Evening everyone. ๐Ÿ˜Š

The last glimmer of the suns disc slipped below the horizon at 15:55! Which is twenty two minutes later than it was back in mid December when it was setting at 15:33! Within the next few days weโ€™ll once again be in the world of post 16:00 sunsets!

The peak of the darkness is now well and truly overโ€ฆ Until next December that is.ย

  5. Morning everyone. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well at 03:27 this morning, the Winter Solstice occurred!ย
So this is it folksโ€ฆ The pendulum has reached the end of its strokeโ€ฆ And we have reached the darkness at the end of the tunnel.
The next time weโ€™ll be loosing daylight will be in six months time.

I know that the morning end of the day has still got a little bit of light to lose โ€ฆ But as of tomorrowโ€ฆ What is being gained in the evening now outweighs whatโ€™s being lost.

  6. Well today marks the start of the beginning of the endโ€ฆ For another year anyway!

Because as of today we stop loosing daylight at the evening end of the day. The actual earliest sunset is on either Wednesday or Thursday (according to the Time and Date website) โ€ฆ but there are only mere seconds in it.

The actual winter solstice is on Friday the 22nd of December at 03:27 in the morningโ€ฆ Plus we carry on loosing daylight at the morning end of the day until the 1st of January!

So you can see why I called it the beginning of the end. Lol ๐Ÿ˜‚ย

    Anywayโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll shut up now as Iโ€™m rambling . ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  7. Evening everyone. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well sadly this is itโ€ฆ The final few hours of meteorological autumn for another year. *sigh*ย

Mind youโ€ฆ Itโ€™s given us quite a bit! Starting off with the September heatwave, a very soggy October thanks to some named storms, and (at present) a very seasonal feeling to end November.ย
    ย

So for my final post to the Autumn 2023 thread, I shall leave you with some of my favourite images that Iโ€™ve taken throughout the season. ๐Ÿ˜Š

(Plus for the technically minded, I decided to go retro and shot these on 35mm! Kodak Gold 200 and a Pentax P30. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ“ท๐ŸŽž๏ธ)

So until next year, farewell autumnโ€ฆ It was a pleasure as always. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Very nice.

Autumn seems to be the "shortest" season by far nowadays, at least, what's left of it does.

    Evening @CharlieBear9๐Ÿ˜Š

Sadly yes, it does seem shortโ€ฆ Or does it go too fast?ย
    ย

But if you know where to look, the signs of autumn often do appear just after the summer solstice. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  9. Evening everyone. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well Iโ€™m currently on my break in work, and Iโ€™ve just been outside to watch the sunset. ๐ŸŒ…ย

I can now confirm that due to the topography of the land, that for my neck of the woods, I am once again in the land of pre-15:30 sunsets. ๐ŸŒ…๐Ÿ˜

I know that in less than a months time the evenings will be getting lighter again as we start knocking on the door of the winter solstice, and the long hard road back towards the summer solsticeโ€ฆ But for now, Iโ€™m more than happyโ€ฆ The vice has now totally slackened off. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

    I like them too.

Never understood why people moan so much. Get more than their fair share of light in summer when it's light til 11 and sunny by 4am in the morning. Never even gets properly dark for a few weeks around the solstice.

Donโ€™t worry folks, youโ€™re certainly not alone in liking the darker evenings. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  11. Morning everyone.ย ๐Ÿ™‚

Just a mere 13 days to go now until the clock change from BST back to GMT.ย ๐Ÿ™‚

I know that many will totally disagree with me, (and if you do, hey that's absolutely fine... We're all different) but I've always found the time around the clock change weekend in October, and Halloween particularly special and magical.ย ๐ŸŽƒ

For me personally, the sheer horrors of the sun being overhead in the summer, and its seemingly nonstop 24/7 daylight are now but a dim and distant bad memory. ๐Ÿ˜…

... Until next April that is. Lolย ๐Ÿ˜”

This morning whilst driving to work, I spotted my first gentle autumnal mist just hanging over one of the fields. ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜

Needless to say, this has cheered my cold, dark, miserable heart up no end! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  13. Since Saturday I've noticed a distinct change... There has been an autumnal feel to the days in this neck of the woods, and I'm certainly not complaining about it.ย ๐Ÿ˜ย ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ„

I've still yet to witness my first gentle autumn mist of the season, but hey, it is still early(ish) August, plus I'm back on earlies again next week, so fingers crosssed.ย ๐Ÿ˜

Plus I'm now once more in the world of the pre 21:00 sunsets and post 05:40 sun rises! The vice is well and truly slackening off now.ย ๐Ÿ˜…

... Just over six weeks now till the autumn equinox!ย ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘

  14. Morning everyone. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well the past two weeks Iโ€™ve been on the earlies shift, and Iโ€™ve noticed the increasing darkness coming along at a fair ole pace in what most normal folk would call the middle of the night. ๐Ÿ˜

On Monday the 24th of July there was still a dim blue glow in the sky at 03:30, but by last Friday, (4th of August) it was gone! Admittedly there has been a lot of cloud cover which probably has skewed my perception.

But now Iโ€™ve got a week of latesโ€ฆ So the move towards darker evenings will probably be really noticeable. ๐Ÿ™‚
