Morning @markyoย
Seconded, thirded and fourthed mate!ย
For me as a reverse S.A.D. sufferer Iโm starting to enter worst time of the year; which as youโve rightly pointed out is this long hard climb to the summer solstice.ย
ยI am generally ok with everything until around the middle of April; and the. It hits me hardโฆ Very hard.ย
ยBut like you, Iโm also looking forward to the first signs of those autumn mists and shadows once the summer solstice out of the way.
No pain, no gain I suppose.

Hello everyone.ย
Sorry for my recent quietness... Real life and what have you... *sigh*
Anywhooo... Tomorrow, Wednesday they 20th of March is the first quarter day of the year - the Vernal Equinox, (as we've already had the equilux).
So for us here in the Northern hemisphere we're about to enter the 'summer' part of the year.
I've already noticed that the quality of the sunlight has altered from what it was last month, it now appears to be much brighter, (when its not cloudy obviously. Lol).
The clocks change in a couple of weeks as well... And then it'll be full steam ahead towards the summer solstice!ย- 3

As the creeping tendrils of freezing mist and fog once more start to stalk the streetsโฆ
Evening everyone.
The last glimmer of the suns disc slipped below the horizon at 15:55! Which is twenty two minutes later than it was back in mid December when it was setting at 15:33! Within the next few days weโll once again be in the world of post 16:00 sunsets!
The peak of the darkness is now well and truly overโฆ Until next December that is.ย

Morning everyone.
Well at 03:27 this morning, the Winter Solstice occurred!ย
So this is it folksโฆ The pendulum has reached the end of its strokeโฆ And we have reached the darkness at the end of the tunnel.
The next time weโll be loosing daylight will be in six months time.I know that the morning end of the day has still got a little bit of light to lose โฆ But as of tomorrowโฆ What is being gained in the evening now outweighs whatโs being lost.

Well today marks the start of the beginning of the endโฆ For another year anyway!
Because as of today we stop loosing daylight at the evening end of the day. The actual earliest sunset is on either Wednesday or Thursday (according to the Time and Date website) โฆ but there are only mere seconds in it.
The actual winter solstice is on Friday the 22nd of December at 03:27 in the morningโฆ Plus we carry on loosing daylight at the morning end of the day until the 1st of January!
So you can see why I called it the beginning of the end. Lol ย
Anywayโฆ Iโll shut up now as Iโm rambling .

Evening everyone.
Well sadly this is itโฆ The final few hours of meteorological autumn for another year. *sigh*ย
Mind youโฆ Itโs given us quite a bit! Starting off with the September heatwave, a very soggy October thanks to some named storms, and (at present) a very seasonal feeling to end November.ย
ยSo for my final post to the Autumn 2023 thread, I shall leave you with some of my favourite images that Iโve taken throughout the season.
(Plus for the technically minded, I decided to go retro and shot these on 35mm! Kodak Gold 200 and a Pentax P30. )
So until next year, farewell autumnโฆ It was a pleasure as always.

Very nice.
Autumn seems to be the "shortest" season by far nowadays, at least, what's left of it does.
Evening @CharlieBear9
Sadly yes, it does seem shortโฆ Or does it go too fast?ย
ยBut if you know where to look, the signs of autumn often do appear just after the summer solstice.

Evening everyone.
Well Iโm currently on my break in work, and Iโve just been outside to watch the sunset. ย
I can now confirm that due to the topography of the land, that for my neck of the woods, I am once again in the land of pre-15:30 sunsets.
I know that in less than a months time the evenings will be getting lighter again as we start knocking on the door of the winter solstice, and the long hard road back towards the summer solsticeโฆ But for now, Iโm more than happyโฆ The vice has now totally slackened off.

I seem to be one of the very few people on here who loves the dark evenings.ย

Never understood why people moan so much. Get more than their fair share of light in summer when it's light til 11 and sunny by 4am in the morning. Never even gets properly dark for a few weeks around the solstice.
Donโt worry folks, youโre certainly not alone in liking the darker evenings.

Morning everyone.ย
Just a mere 13 days to go now until the clock change from BST back to GMT.ย
I know that many will totally disagree with me, (and if you do, hey that's absolutely fine... We're all different) but I've always found the time around the clock change weekend in October, and Halloween particularly special and magical.ย
For me personally, the sheer horrors of the sun being overhead in the summer, and its seemingly nonstop 24/7 daylight are now but a dim and distant bad memory.... Until next April that is. Lolย

Since Saturday I've noticed a distinct change... There has been an autumnal feel to the days in this neck of the woods, and I'm certainly not complaining about it.ย ย
I've still yet to witness my first gentle autumn mist of the season, but hey, it is still early(ish) August, plus I'm back on earlies again next week, so fingers crosssed.ย
Plus I'm now once more in the world of the pre 21:00 sunsets and post 05:40 sun rises! The vice is well and truly slackening off now.ยย
... Just over six weeks now till the autumn equinox!ย

And swerving swiftly back on topic... I have to say that being on lates this week, I'm really shocked (in a pleasant way) at how much the darkness has come on at the evening end of the day!ย
Mind you, in just over six weeks we'll be at the autumn equinox!ย- 3

Morning everyone.
Well the past two weeks Iโve been on the earlies shift, and Iโve noticed the increasing darkness coming along at a fair ole pace in what most normal folk would call the middle of the night.
On Monday the 24th of July there was still a dim blue glow in the sky at 03:30, but by last Friday, (4th of August) it was gone! Admittedly there has been a lot of cloud cover which probably has skewed my perception.
But now Iโve got a week of latesโฆ So the move towards darker evenings will probably be really noticeable.

Evening @Mazย
Thank you for your kind words and understanding on this.ย
I know many, many folk like your good self who suffer with winter S.A.D. โฆ So the fact that I tend to come alive in the dark time of the year; wellโฆ I still get classed as โoddโโฆ But heyโฆ It doesnโt bother me.
I fully understand the feeling that you get from January onwardsโฆ As during early July noticing the darkness slowly increasing and creeping in at silly oโclock in the morning, when most normal folk are asleep, to me is a wonderful feeling of relief, and then slowly noticing the tiny increase in darkness at the evening end of the dayโฆ Wow! ย
It makes July (for me at any rate) a much more bearable month than Mayโฆ Even though the day light levels are pretty much the same!ย
