Thunderstorms appear to give you the same relief in summer as snow does to me in winter. Β Dingy grey suddenly replaced by bright white as if by magic. Β Before I understood SAD I used to go hill walking, climbing and skiing in the snowy Highlands/Snowdonia/Lake District as many weekends as possible. Β It was the βdrugβ that got me through. Β Canβt do it with work/ family etc now though. Β Maybe you need to take up caving in summer?!!
Funny you should say that @Mazβ¦ Iβm very much one of those folk who thrives on his own company.
I fully get where youβre coming from with the idea of cavingβ¦ I swear I should have been born a bat or a moleβ¦ Or some other darkness loving creature. Lol

Morning everyone.
The U.K. Meto have just issued not one but two yellow thunderstorm warnings!Β
ΒThe first one today covers Northern Ireland, and the second one is for tomorrow.Β
ΒWe all know how fickle storms can be, and Iβm just on the edge of tomorrows warning, but fingers crossed on this for us all.

Hi there,
I suffer from SAD, so on the face of it find it hard to empathise with someone looking forward to the dark days. Β However reading your and others posts on here Iβve come to understand. Β
ΒAlso, Iβm autistic, with heightened sensory perception for light. Β I always wear sunglasses and a peaked cap April - September and often beyond. Β Despite that I love bright days. However, once the light deficit really kicks in (December) I really struggle to keep functioning for a few weeks.
Anyway, was posting as itβs the first non overcast evening where Iβve noticed the light dipping earlier. Β No big thing, months for me when light levels are perfectly adequate. Β Still, something I always note, and Β always brings that bit of dread to the back of my mind.
Β
Β
Β
Good morning @MazΒ
Thank your understanding on Reverse SAD. I appreciate that not many folk do understand my craving for darkness. Donβt get me wrong, I donβt mind a bit of sunshine, but I also like my quota of darkness as well, and sadly I donβt get that at this time of year.Β
ΒThis year has been a particularly tough and challenging one for me, mainly because June (from an IMBY perspective) was more or less none stop sunlight. Admittedly there were a couple of thunderstorms that made life a lot easier; but on the whole it felt like it was just none stop overhead glaring sunlight with no escape for me.Β

I think its a perfectly reasonable post/enquiry from @sarahng as a reply to a post on a public forum, it is up to the OP whether they choose to reply is it not?
Morning @Wold TopperΒ and @Seasonal TrimΒ

I have finally gotten round to replying.- 2

Morning @ChannelThunderand @sarahng
Iβm so sorry for the delay in replyingβ¦ Real life and what have you.Β
ΒI appreciate there are many, many folk, like your good selves, who totally disagree with me, and who canβt understand.Β
ΒIβve never personally liked the summer period, whilst I admit Iβm not a fan of the heat, I can accept that more due to the fact that it can generate thunderstorms. No pain, no gain as they say. Lol Β
But do you remember that autumn heatwave of late September, early October 2011? Now whilst we touched 29/30Β° I found that a lot more bearable due to the shorter days.
But for me, itβs that horrible glarey overhead summer sunlight that I truly hate.Β
Back in 2005(? ish) I was diagnosed with autism β¦ and for me there is just no escape from the light at this time of year.Β
An example of how too much light can affect people is that my local Tescoβs now have βquiet timesβ (usually early morning and late evening) where they turn off some of the in store lightsβ¦ Needless to say, guess when I do my shopping? LolIt was thanks to the Netweather forum (donβt ask me which thread, as I honestly canβt remember) that I discovered βReverse SADβ or βSummer SADβ was a thing! At that point I felt a little bit less like a weirdo, as I found out there were others, Β many others like me.
Plus going back years, and years ago to when I was little, if there was going to be a big family argument or row (which I absolutely hate) it would be summer time when it would happen. So bad memories like that all help to make me dread the mid summer period.
ΒAs folk have said on here, in the depths of winter, they like to escape to escape to South America, or Australia/New Zealand during the winter, I could gladly do that during the summer, just to escape the excess light that we have here.Β
Β
Now before anyone suggests it, as in why donβt I do that? I can assure you, that itβs not quite as easy as βjust sorting out your finances and youβre offβ. Family commitments, job, etc, etcβ¦ kinda prevent me from doing that.Β
Now July and August, are both summer monthsβ¦ But I can tolerate these far better knowing that weβre on our way out of summer, rather than on the way in.There was a period around 2015 -2019 when my summer SAD wasnβt too bad, and that includes 2018! But then in late April 2020, I sadly lost my Dad, and my Summer SAD returned with a vengeanceβ¦ Like it was on steroids or something.
I really wish I could explain better to you both, but hey.Β

The time is 15:57 and at long, long last; the summer solstice has just occurred!Β
Β
Yes folks, the pendulum has finally reached the end of its stroke!
Speaking as a reverse S.A.D. sufferer this is truly as bad as it can get! Around five weeks ago, my part of the world entered the world of the lingering twilight; Iβm not gonna lie, those five weeks have been a long, long hard and torturous haul for me.Β
Β
Some people will say that weβre now on a slippery slope; but I see it as a break, a rest, a chance to enjoy the freewheel after an extremely long, and hard and arduous climb to the solstice.Β
Β
Iβm looking forward to the increasing darkness, like welcoming an old friend whoβs been away.Β
Β
Iβm fully aware that summer 2023 has still got a fair few nasty tricks up its sleeve, but this corner/milestone now being turned/reached is something that needs celebrating!Β
In other words, Iβm going to be celebrating the fact that weβre now on our way out of summer, instead of on the way in!Β
Β
Iβm also looking forward to the shortening of the days, gathering mists, and ripening fruits, as we now head towards autumn.Β
Β
Yes folks, cheer up; as there is darkness at the end of the tunnel!Β
Β
The summer sun is fading as the year grows old.Β Β And darker days are drawing near.Β The winter winds will be much colderβ¦

Morning all.
So just to quickly add to @CoventryWeatherβs post, hereβs a screenshot from the U.K. Meto App with regards to Sundayβs yellow storm warning.
Lets hope itβs a good and stormy day for us all, as Iβm sure by now, even the most hardened summer sun lovers will be starting to agree that we do need some rainfall if nothing else.

Yes I can't wait too. Birds starting to make a racket at 3:30am and the sun getting to work early heating the house up all fill me with dread. When the night's become longer than the days is really when a big smile goes on my face, that's almost always a sign winter we can say bye to heatwaves and winter isn't a million miles away.
Seconded, thirded and fourthed @Dark Horse

Just one week to go until the summer solstice... I'm not gonna lie, since around mid May all I have had is inescapable warmth and that horrible glary overhead sun, so as a reverse SAD sufferer, this year has been absolute torture for me.Β
One more week... I can do this... Just one more week until the 'tide starts to turn'... This is now so close I can almost taste the finish line.Β
Edit: I tell a small lie, as I did have four thunderstorms over the past weekend.Β- 7

Another day, another thunderstorm
As much as I hate hot, sweaty and sultry summer weather, I tend to find it much more bearable when each day ends with a thunderstorm
The past three days have turn out to be quite a notable thundery spell.
Today was my fourth storm in three days!
Letβs hope that we all donβt have to wait too long before the next thundery interlude.- 19

The sound of distant thunder
So after an afternoon of distant rumblings of thunder on the tβother side of the Clwydian Range, the atmosphere changed at around 17:00β¦ It felt much cooler and fresherβ¦ An hour later at 18:00 I threw the towel in on getting a thunderstorm today.
Needless to say that the sky started to turn a strange orange colour, and then it clouded overβ¦ Then just after 21:30, the sky started to turn darkβ¦ Very darkβ¦ Black even! And then low and behold, Iβm treated to a nocturnal rattler!
A very high elevation storm, but Iβm certainly not complaining.
Three storms in two days!! Fingers crossed for another day of storms tomorrow.
Hereβs a couple of this evenings high elevation storm over the south side of the Wirral.@SarahWxmΒ @FoxglovesΒ and everyone else of courseβ¦ Hereβs a few pics that I managed to get from this evenings storm.
