  1. Latest radar on weather type shows the band in the north of the region turning increadingly to sleet. I don't expect anything but sleet and maybe even rain in Barnsley today.
  2. Snow Stopped in Barnsley now and the slush has frozen very quickly. Daughters boyfriend only just managed to get his car up the drive and then it slid back down again despite being in gear and with the handbrake on. Had to go out and rescue him with a bucket if grit!
  3. As much as I would love us to get more snow in Barnsley tonight, I doubt many of the showers are going to make it further West than the A1. Currently those showers that are moving in land appear to be mostly of rain or sleet at best and also becoming lighter in intensity as they move inland. I think those of us who did well last night will have to be happy with that for now, and hope we start to see the models forecast an improved picture as we head into January.
  4. Weather warning also includes South and West Yorkshire with MetO expecting showers to run inland on an Easterly wind. Hope we see a bit more to add to the 10cm we got in Barnsley.
  5. Well what a fantastic evening! We ended up with about 5-6cm in Barnsley, so far more than I had anticipated at the start of the evening. Looks like there has been a thaw overnight though. Not sure if that was whether it turned to rain as it cleared or just a lift in temperature, but there is definitely less covering everywhere now than at 23.30 yesterday. Our 2 outdoor Christmas trees which grow in the front and back gardens were weighed down with snow last night, and this morning its all on the floor. Looks like there are a few showers around this morning but according to the weather type radar it only rain or sleet. Looks like a cold few days up to new year then a slightly less cold for a few days, then uncertain thereafter. Here is hoping we have a few more surprises like last night!
  6. Snowing heavily in Barnsley now, and we've probably got about 4cm. Radar image is quite confusing as it would indicate fairly light snow, but that isn't the case. Also, precip seems to be pivotting over South Yorkshire, so prospect of more to come. This has turned out much better than I had anticipated.
  7. A good covering (1-2cm) in Barnsley and continuing to snow moderately. Radar showing it should continue for another hour or 2 before disappearing south east.
  8. Thanks Steve, hope you get some soon as you've earned it with all the excellent analysis you give in the Mod thread.
  9. Much heavier now, and starting to settle on grass and cars...roads next... Good times
  10. Well surprisingly, it is now snowing albeit very light and unlikely to settle. Radar showing heaviest precip slowing moving closer, so still hoping to see something heavier!
  11. Radar now starting to show precip getting lighter in main band and beginning to slip away east south east, and as expected missing Barnsley. Still raining steadily here but I'm not hopeful it will get any heavier or turn to snow.
  12. Steady rain still in Barnsley. Heaviest precip looks like it will pass slightly south, so Chesterfield and maybe Sheffield should do ok, but doubt it will quite get to Barnsley.
  13. Meto just updated their warning. Main focus seems to be on Midlands and Wales although Yorkshire still in the warning area.
  14. Just visiting your thread from the Yorks..Living in Barnsley, nothing here overnight but great to see the Midlands getting more. Off to Chesterfield today. Anyone any idea of conditions there currently?
  15. Probably got about 4cm of fresh snow and still coming down moderately. Radar still looks ok for a few more hours as long as the sleet/rain stats south and west
  16. Radar seems to be playing tricks...snow was moderately heavy when under the reds/yellows but heavier now under green
  17. Heavy snow now. Probably about 2cm in last 30 minutes. Have to keep checking the lampost. Wife thinks I'm bonkers and keeps telling me to sit down!
  18. Just checked precipitation type on extra radar...was showing sleet just to the north of my location for about last 30 mins but now changed back to snow..maybe temps dropped again
  19. Bizare given the radar...really expected to get a pasting...a bit disappointing, particularly since areas very close are getting heavy snow
  20. Very strange in Barnsley. Appears to be very light snow with about 1cm of snow, yet m1 about a mile away appears to be almost blocked...lorry stationary with driver stood on carriageway...
  21. Barnsley Snow Shield largely active again...How come its always heavy to the West, get to Barnsley becomes light then intensifies to the East!
  22. Stalled front now pivoting and intensifying. South East edge moving quite quickly north in last 30 minutes
  23. Moderate snow now, but radar now showing much lighter to west, and probably likely to stop in next hour or so. Heaviest will be further east as suggested on various forecasts last night
