  1. Seems to me a band of snow forming and heading south over Scotland. Anyone any thoughts as to whether it will survive as far as Yorkshire?
  2. I'd say they will but as they are heading south east then only south yorkshire/north derbyshire will be in line rather than west yorkshire. Probably snow at higher levels with sleet at lower levels.
  3. Looking at the latest radar for 7.30, the band of snow over the borders already looks to be fragmenting. Earlier I thought this could give a reasonable amount to us later tonight but now its not looking so promising, Maybe Hudson will be right for once, although I hope not.
  4. Well sadly a miss from the polar low for Barnsley, although sounds like most of Yorkshire missed as well. Some precip building off the coast between Lancaster and Blackpool which could be moving south east towards us.
  5. I agree. I think south Sheffield/Chesterfield could be in line again though! Ironic that my work office is in Chesterfield but work from home when snow is forecast!
  6. If the eastern edge of the precip remains on the same track as the current line of showers heading south east then we'll be close but suspect we will just miss out in Barnsley....but I hope you guys who are thinking there will be a slight eastward movement are right!
  7. Blimey its all action in here tonight! I can't keep up, what with looking at the radar, reading this thread, reading the model thread and the tracking the polar low thread! I'm exhausted! Given we missed out in Barnsley today, I insist the polar low dumps its snow here!
  8. Heavy snow in Barnsley at the moment from the band heading south. Probably got 1-2cm in last 20 mins.
  9. Fantastic photos CAPE-Steve. Enjoy! I cant believe the amount of snow in the Sheffield area and we have nothing in Barnsley. I'm more hopeful for this afternoon and overnight given the troughs moving south.
  10. Well my expectations were met! We don't even have a dusting, other than on cars and grass so nothing since 11 last night. Extremely disappointing though given the weather warning and the yesterdays Met Office forecast for snow from 8pm Wed to late afternoon Thurs.
  11. Just watching radar on loop and think maybe a band of snow is starting to develop over borders and going to be heading south. Could have our name on it for the early hours!
  12. 3 very bright flashing of lightening here in fairly quick succession, although not heard any thunder yet.
  13. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those frustrating evenings! Whilst there are plenty of snow showers around I think any settling snow will be localised with many of us missing out by morning. The speed at which the showers are passing through isn't helping either. The Met Office forecast for our region tonight isn't exactly inspiring confidence either, even though the pictures look great, the words aren't, as quoted below....scattered showers! Cold and windy with scattered hail and snow showers through the night. Some accumulations likely to low levels in some parts, with accumulations more likely over the Pennines. Icy stretches may develop in between snow showers during cold clear conditions. Minimum Temperature -2C.
  14. Another disappointing update from Paul Hudson on Look North. Sounding promising over in the mod thread for a longer cold spell, but sounding like snow becoming largely resticted to coastal areas only rather than a widespread snow event.
  15. Answering my own question above, thanks to Snowking in the Mod thread. WBFL - Wet Bulb Freezing Level
  16. Wednesday night into Thursday could be interesting with plenty of snow showers although possibly not getting as far inland as Barnsley. Friday night into weekend turning much colder after a slightly less cold Friday. Snow chances are never great for inland areas in a straight Northerly so hope for bands of showers to move down the country so inland areas can see snow as well as coasts, which should do quite well this coming weekend.
  17. Still snowing lightly in Barnsley, and we now have a good covering - maybe 3-4 cm. Anyone know what the roads are like in Chesterfield...just about the head off to work.
  18. Still light snow but slightly bigger flakes now rather than the miniscule flakes we had to start with. A light dusting evrywhere now. Weather type radar showing sleet getting closer though now! Hopefully wind will increase and turn increasingly easterly so we stay as snow.
  19. Worrying reports in the Midlands thread as most are seeing only sleet or rain. Good to see radar showing precip intensifying though as it moves into Yorkshire. Hopefully remains as snow though.
  20. Very light snow in Barnsley, which contrary to forecast given by Paul Hudson only an hour ago. He said nothing to us until after midnight and even then wasn't sure if it would be rain, sleet or snow, with snow most likely on high ground of peak district!
  21. Snowing lightly in Barnsley. Started to settle but just a light covering so far. A nice surprise as this wasn't forecast!
  22. Countryfile weather forecast for the week very vague which goes to show how uncertain the outcome is at this point. Cold and wintry throughout to the weekend but whether we get rain, sleet or snow will be case of nowcasting.
  23. Main area of precipitation likely to slip down to the East of Barnsley but the area currently over Yorkshire Dales heading South does to be intensifying and is currently of snow so could produce a slight coveting for us later this evening.
