    Moderate snow close to Barnsley town centre, but NetW Extra Radar now showing snow turning to sleet in some western parts of Yorkshire

    Yes, probably, although not very representative of the whole region as Church Fenton often significantly colder that elsewhere (apart from Topcliffe...)

    Managed about 1-2cm in Barnsley. Virtually all melted now. Very disappointing considering what other areas in Yorkshire received including locations within just a few miles. Just seen weather foreast on BBC twice in last hour, one following News and the other in Countryfile... In News edition, temp forecast for tonight 0C for our region... In Countryfile edition, again for Yorkshire, they had it as -8C... How does that work then...

    Well after approx 1 hour of moderate snow, it has now stopped in Barnsley, and we now have about 2cm. Overall a major disappointment...particularly given other areas of Yorkshire have done really well with 5-15cm. Models looking promising for next few weeks, so hopefully we'll get something moving in from the east rather than west so we avoid the snow shield we've experienced today.

    Yes, the Barnsley/Hudds snow shield has disappeared...pity the really heavy precip to the north west doesn't seem to progress past the west coast around Blackpool...

    Yes, the pennines really seem to blocking snow around Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley & Huddersfield area. Although looking slightly more positve on latest radar... Good heavy precip around Barrow In Furness and Fleetwood currently heading south east....

    Interesting viewing Meto radar for whole of country starting from 10.00 and stepping through in 30 min intervals, it is clear the front has slowed significantly in its eastward movement. Also looks like the precip is increasing in its intensity to the west. Could be promising...

    Lewis - you are quite right...it is more than we've seen all winter, but still disappointing given all the warnings.. I will slap myself and tell myself to be more positive.... Just hope you are correct re heavier precip after 18.00...

    ...and what is with the complete lack of precip north west of Barnsley towards Huddersfield...the exact direction the snow is supposed to be coming from....

    So light in Barnsley, virtually non-existant. Not sure what all the severe weather warnings are about from Meto, predicting 5-10cm... if it continues at this rate until next Christmas we'll still not get that amount... looking like a complete non-event...

    Still very light in Barnsley, and looking West towards Emley still fairly light sky... Radar showing the snow shield around Barnsley... light and patchy precip shown and then increasing in intensity as it moves to the East... Typical... Hopefully Lewis is correct with precip intensifying after 18.00.

    Snowing in Barnsley since 13.00 but not really amounting to much, just a dusting so far. Given we are now 2 hours into the precip band, I don't see us getting anything like the NAE predicted 10cm. If it continues as now we'll be lucky to see 1cm.
