  1. True that! Still can't get my head around how the heaviest precip appeared West of Barnsley, then disintegrated when it got about 10 miles away then only for it to reform heavier again to the East!
  2. Well, I've learnt something as well then. I was under the same understanding as you. I shan't bother taking too much notice in future. ?
  3. Light rain in Barnsley now, so that looks to be the end of our Amber warning snow event in the south of the region. Nice to see some snow, and better than earlier this month, but still somewhat underwhelming.
  4. Snow now the heaviest it's been all day, yet the Netweather Radar shows my area under rain! Wife has just returned from shopping in Barnsley town centre and says the main roads are treacherous, even though we only have about 1-2cm. Seems our council has done another fantastic job of gritting, despite the Amber warning!
  5. Absolutely agreed. Yellow was more than sufficient. I reckon we have about another hour of moderate snow to come and so far after 4 hours we have less than 1cm!
  6. It's the Barnsley snow gap. You can guarantee it every time!
  7. Slightly heavier now, but even being generous you'd still only call it moderate snow... Still potential for something heavier in the next hour or so though...fingers crossed!
  8. Nice big flakes here now, just not that many of them! Also, looking at Radar I'd say Barnsley is once again heading for the snow gap with the heaviest shown to going be to the north and south...
  9. Judging by what has settled in the last 3 hours, we'll be looking lucky to get 2-5mm let alone 2-5cm
  10. Turned back to snow and slightly heavier. BBC app and Meto both have Barnsley under heavy snow until 11 and light snow until 12, but can't see that unless front progress East slows considerably.
  11. Indeed you do! Just got same update for Barnsley. Having been in the snow gap for the last hour with nothing falling from the sky, we now have sleet and the dreaded drip drip drip... Having said that though it looks like the low pressure is much further south than forecast so we might stay on the cold side and with any luck as the heavier precip hits it will turn back to snow.
  12. Yep, same here in Barnsley...nothing for the last 30 minutes. I never cease to be amazed that when there is a band of snow, Barnsley always manages to find itself in the air gap!
  13. Very very light snow in Barnsley now. As its raining in Doncaster, Rotherham and parts of Huddersfield, I don't think it will be long before it turns to rain here as we aren't that far apart.
  14. Light snow now in Barnsley and settling immediately. After only a few minutes we have a dusting.
  15. Nothing in Barnsley yet but good to see all apps and models now appear to show this as an all snow event! ?
  16. Yep, GFS 18z snow risk charts for South Yorkshire look dreadful. Hopefully Arome is nearer to the mark!
  17. Just comparing current Radar image with Arome, Arpege, NMM and HIRLAM models, and HIRLAM looks closest in terms if position (Eastwards progression) for 11pm over Eire.
  18. Arome showing snow getting into South Yorks between 7-8am and clearing the same area around Noon. Hirlam has everything a couple of hours earlier. WRF NMM 2k is a faster progression and turning from snow to rain in a shorter time. Arpege similar to Arome in timing but snow not as heavy.
  19. Well clearly I can't load every single location in Yorkshire onto the app, so I'm sure there are some locations particularly those with altitude will still be showing more snow. What I said was the 11 locations I have loaded, which are only a sample of Yorkshire locations were showing mostly sleet. Hopefully the app is wrong and we get snow more widely as the 12z models were showing. Let's see what the 18z say in a few minutes...
  20. Yep, agreed. You are about 6 miles South East from me, and slightly lower altitude. Both BBC app and Meto showing mainly sleet for me, so as you say either apps wrong or warning wrong!
  21. I have 11 locations across Yorkshire loaded on the BBC app, and all those in West and South Yorkshire now showing mostly sleet. Only North Yorkshire locations still showing snow. Will be interesting to see the model updates from the 18z runs later.
  22. You should do pretty well there. We stay in a holiday cottage in Hutton Le Hole every February and nearly always see snow. ?
  23. I'm hoping it isn't too accurate, as it's showing light snow and sleet for my area. I'm hoping the Arome, Arpege, NMM models and Meto Amber warning description are closer to the mark!
  24. Usually up by 6am regardless of day/holidays due to 30 years of alarm clock waking me up to travel to work, so yes I'll be up...
  25. Yes, it's gone from a 9 hour event shown yesterday to about 2-3 hours, although could well be heavy. It just isn't going to be around too long!
