  1. Well February 11th today and actually this weekend has not been too bad ,apart from a few showers this afternoon. Felt very pleasant in the sunshine against the backdrop of our brick wall against the utility. Okay it's a sun trap ,and it's too hot in the summer there, but it did feel very spring like today when I sat there in the sunshine for a few minutes and got my much needed Vitamin D !☺
  2. If that is about as accurate as there summer and winter forcasts ,then we can write that prediction off as well.....
  3. Only one thing for it ,they say some things come to you if you wait long enough......
  4. Well ,todays charts show no warmth at all for this area......
  5. Probably about right! But I hope it comes sooner rather than later. If we do get a dry spell, it will probably be courtesy of a Scandi high in March and April and even May. Due to the suns strength by April which is equal to August , it’ll soon dry the ground up . Of course all speculation at the moment!
  6. In Absence of True Seasons you could argue ,say for instance ,1911/1912 were two years where the weather was stuck in a rut. Hot and dry 1911 and painfully wet and cold 1912.......
  7. Nearly 3 inches of rain here the last four days ,rivers running high again. We have already had more than our monthly rainfall, which is about 2 inches! Unfortunately at this rate we are going to be pushing record amounts of rain this month ,going by model output....for February. Can't see any light at the end of a dreadfully, dark ,wet miserable Winter......All I can say about this Winter is its totally Obscene.
  8. Perhaps the stats will change , because the ecm is not the player it was...
  9. Sorry , I have to disagree. Gfs has outperformed ecm lots of times over the last 12 months. It may have well been the leader in years past but not anymore…..
  10. Ahh ,don't worry ,we might get a hot week in the summer, water boards will say we are in for a drought , the media will bleat on about climate change , and farmers and growers will moan that it's not the right weather for their crops , and the train companies will say the tracks are buckling because of the heat......get my drift!
  11. The Ecm cannot be trusted. It's been very poor recently in its output. As regards wintry weather ,cannot see anything ,that would tickle the toes of cold lovers ,other than a short blast of colder conditions on day ten of ecm ,say no more.......
  12. Firefly2005 No ,you really wouldn't want that......
  13. cheeky_monkey yes that’s my point, people get on with their life even with mind blowing cold temps. This country is not Great Britain anymore. It’s a wussy like nanny state. We need a big change in our ideas and how this country is hopelessly run
  14. Snowyowl9 well that’s why white Easter’s are statistically more common than a White Christmas. And as been statistical since the year dot
  15. SunnyG that’s the way society has become. We are all becoming wussies because we have a nanny state. In my day we walked to school in deep snow. Nowadays they close schools even when the snow doesn’t fall . It’s laughable but very sad the way things are going
  16. keithlucky don’t kid yourself and others mate. It’s extremely unlikely to have any effect on us the way you would like it , best just accept winters just about over now and wish for Spring to come , hopefully it may be a bit more interesting
  17. Summer8906 well let’s see what happens, the forecast what you mentioned may well be wrong swfc just like it did here in the 1970s bit of snow immediate thaw . Awful decade for snow here
  18. More of concern for river levels . After a deluge of rain two days ago , more heavy rain overnight and more tonight, flooding looks like being an issue tomorrow
  19. Why do people have to blame something or someone these days? The weather is the weather here in the UK ,the most unpredictable part of the world to forecast ,and everyone is so surprised that a long range forecast is inaccurate. Dear oh dear..!
  20. Polar Low it's called a nanny state. God knows what people done without the ott warnings they put out today. .....
  21. I see in the MAD thread their starting to ramp the model output up, but I really don't know what about... HarrogateSnow I think they mean 8 minutes
  22. Whilst teleconections are useful, I think there are many missing links which as yet and may never know. The teleconnections are part of a puzzle or maze of jigsaw pieces ,we have some of the pieces ,but a lot are missing. Unfortunately there is no handbook on how the planet and nature work togeather ,so makind has to search and find ,but it may well end that there are some things that we will never find ,hence long range forecasts may be as illusive as the proverbial gold at the end of the rainbow....☺
  23. Gfs performance has been great as of late ,in fact it's had many triumphs, for many it's throwing in the towel time as regards anything resembling classic winter conditions. As regards tommorows mish mash ,most of any wintry weather will be on high ground in the North ,and even that will be quickly washed away! Looks like Southwesterly winds will be with us for a while now....
