She lives at Southwold and we have been to the the fish and chip place many times. Remember when it was just a little shack. Well worth a visit. Can be very busy during the summer months. At 97 I think my Mother's swimming days are over. Fortunately she still lives by herself and charges round Southwold on her mobility scooter. You have been warned!

Haven't had a chance to wade through models thread. How are the sensitive souls on there? Hope no one has upset them by asking any questions or suggesting they are wrong.

Was at Southwold taking my mum out for lunch on the pier. Lot of cloud along coast with gentle snow falling. Excellent cod and chips.

Winter Model Discussion 12Z 15/1/13 onwards.
Habsish replied to Coast's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Although watching with great interest and anticipation I get a certain feeling of deja vue concerning some of the postings. I have seen all this unrestrained hype before where model out put has suggested a possible cold snap. Any chance that eventually somebody (or more than one model) might get it right? Possibly more restraint and unbiased consideration might be the the order of the day. -
Three Counties & East Anglia Regional Discussion - January 14th 2013>
Habsish replied to Snowangel-MK's topic in Regional
Snowing gently here but not settling. Flakes seem heavy so not far off turning to sleet. Just seen a Sparrow Hawk pounce on a Fieldfares about 20ft from the back of my house and then fly off with it.- 761 replies

Are you saying Southwold has a power cut? Got a 97 year old mum there who lives on her own so concerned at your comment.

Winter Model Discussion 12Z 09/01/13> The hunt for cold ?
Habsish replied to Coast's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
So why do we now call it a shortwave if it is a low pressure? Confusion of terms? What about high pressure? H -
Was a telegram boy during the school holidays. Remember how cold it was delivering on my bike. No central heating or double glazing and an inch of dust in the roof space for insulation. Mind you we were use to getting dressed in bed and watching ice patterns form on the inside of the windows. Later on was able ride down to the town centre on the frozen river. When it started to thaw some little heros rode down the river on the ice flows. I preferred to watch. Think that many now would find it difficult to cope.

The Apple Tree That Wont Shed Its Leaves
Habsish replied to Mikel Nimbus's topic in Space, Science & nature
I find that olive trees do better if their roots are restricted so are quite good for pot growing particularly in uk where climate even in the south is not ideal. Once the basic frame has formed just keeping pruning the tips to encourage side growth so a bushy tree is formed. Then leave alone as they flower on previous years growth. They like hotter climates so in uk they do better if protected from extended frost. If not too big take into a greenhouse or conservatory or wrap in bubble plastic. They do not seem to be too upset by heavy prunining Although the top growth can be quite quick I find root growth to be comparatively slow. I have had fair success in taking cuttings. Some of these have flowered and set fruit within a few years. Although bearing fruit don't expect it to mature in uk. They make quite good bonsai trees. Sorry but I am not certain of the climate you have in France. Scale insect can be a problem for both Olive and citrus although from your photos scale does not seem to be a problem. Turning back to apple trees I have mature one that keeps its fruit hanging on for ages (well into Feburary and beyond in milder winters). This year they are all been eaten by hoards of Black Birds, Fieldfares and others. These birds do not usually arrive here in numbers until later in the winter when they feast on the apples. Shows the limited food in the wild this year I think. -

Working on the chaos theory does any one think that a crowd of butterflies in the Amazon jungle are flapping their wing hard to queer up the models? -
Just seen, on BBC East, the performance of the representative of the Essex County Councils highways department trying to explain no body knew it was going to snow. Hence the chaos of the roads this morning as they were not gritted in good time. Where on earth do they get their information from? A lot of warning was given on Net Weather in particular this thread. H

If your thermometer displays questionable readings and or you want accurate weather conditions elsewhere check out the AeroWeather app. It gives readings at airports around the world. Stansted currently 0 deg Southend -2 -
Seems that the the food available in the wild is substantially down from previous years. Have a lot of Blackbirds, Fieldfares, plus others looking for food. Usually much later in the winter before they make much of a showing. H

South East & East Anglia Regional Discussion ~ December 1st 2012>

Had notification that my OAP winter fuel payment has gone into my bank account. As it is not going to go far with this type of weather think I will buy some wool and knitting needles and make myself a nice all in one creation. Alternatively go down the pub and splash it all on a couple of beers and a packet of crisps. H -

Can we quote you later in the winter? I don't know one way or the other. I am sure if you are wrong you will have to resign and get a massive golden handshake. Just like the Entwistle bloke. -
Hurricane Sandy

It seems that some of the Americans in New York, who are bleating may have a better perspective on what the poorer countries put up with on a regular basis.
