  1. after 5 mins of thought im going for 4.0c not sure why the size didn't work? anyway to avoid confussion its 4.0c for me
  2. min -6.4 high 1 which it is currently. Average for today so far -3! Officially Baltic!
  3. If December CET finishes below 5.8c then it would have been colder than any month of last years winter, ok not that remarkable given how mild last winter was but still a good start to winter.
  4. After 10m minute of research im going for 6.2c tempted to go higher but will stick with that.
  5. I reckon a -20.1 in the Highlands would e good, no reason, just would be nice to see. -13.5 in the midlands somewhere. As a kid living in Surrey (that well known cool area) I regularly remember -10 nights in the 80's, even -5 days too. Also we seemed to have at least 6 inches of snow at least once every winter and often snow would hang around for days or over a week. Im sure I remember a winter where I got in about 10 sledging days on the downs, not bad as I could only go at weekends! Those were the days!
  6. I seem to find myself 17th overall for Autumn so far, not bad considering both temperatures so far were more or less guesses! Pleased to see i am well ahead of many more illustrious and knowledgeable members! Maybe too much knowledge is a bad thing!
  7. well we manager 4.9 at 5am this morning in Brackley which is just outside the CET zone, so last night may have been cooler than you think
  8. I guessed 11.1, was going for Hadley not Manley though! thats my excuse anyway! :o
  9. I would say im a lover of all weather! Sweeping generalisation I know but im fairly happy whatever the weather. The only weather I really can't stand is muggy hot weather above 80 degrees. Having said that im not against all hot weather, just when its humid and uncomfortable. I actually like Spring, Summer, Autumn and winter days and generally enjoy the fact that we are lucky to live in a region that has changeable weather and seasons! If I had to pick my favourite would be a clear crisp snowy winters day, but thats only when im at home and able to enjoy it, if its during the week and I have to sit in the office and watch it then its a waste!
  10. To be honest im not that meteorologically savi and knowledgeable as most people here! I just used the 10 year rolling mean I think! good each way bet!
  11. Great, I guesses 11.1c so should be quids in!
  12. Agreed, was bitter here yesterday, struggled to 10 degrees, and another frost last night, the 5th frost weve had out of 6 nights, although I am in a slight frost hollow. Brighter and probably warmer today, but still recording a well below average cet today. The weekend looks like a blip to me with some cooler days for the end of the month too. So I can only see the CET falling, maybe not by over a degree as it has in the last week but I reckon we could end up with a sub 11 month. OK not cold but much cooler and more seasonal than the last couple for sure and probably below the 10 year running average.
  13. think Mr Data means the coldest month for all 12 months since 2000 would end up with an annual CET of 9.02.
  14. Still think my 11.1 will be a good shout, reckon I will be within 0.5 degrees either way which is well within the realms of minor error!
  15. not sure if today will make it rise, 6c overnight and fog and 9c all morning, now sunny though
  16. an average of 13c for the last 3 days would bring the average down to 14 degrees. An average of 12.1 for the last 3 days would bring it down to 13.9c
  17. I will go for 11.1c after about a minute of though! being safe and going for the 10 year mean!
  18. Aaah, yes, but that was more about the validity of a particular site and its location, rather than the temperature itself. But yes I see your point, there were several pages of discussions about it! Back to September, im not really bothered what the temperature ends up for, I punted for 14.5 and I don't think I will be far away. My main thing is to see a gradual cooling through the month and an increase in occurancies of fronts and storms, basically a gradual slide into a proper autumn. So far I think this month has been good and the outlook for this week is cetainly cooler and more autumnal than we have seen in September in recent years. P.S I could do with Autumn proper holding off until the 7th of October as im on holiday next week! Would rather not have a week of gales and wind!
  19. I live west of Northampton and was woken up by high winds and lashing rain, didn't bother looking out of the window though. My boss said his daughter was woken by it and came into their room which she never does because she was frightened. He actually sid to me this morning it was like a tornado or somethins, reckons the winds suddenly picked up and it lashed down and lots of stuff was flying around outside. Not sure if it was a tornado, certainly a hefty squall.
  20. Is that a joke or are you really predicting to a 1000th of a degree?? Also if it was 13.996 why would people be fighting over whether its above or below 14? Explain how 13.996 can ever be described as "above" 14 degrees!
  21. yeah, the BBC had heavy frequent showers for my area today, seen none yet, this so called unsettled week is turning out suprisingly dry so far! No measurable rain for a month now, the drought continues!
  22. Yes 2001 was a good year, most years some does survive, usually in Garbh Coire Mor in the Cairngorms which im think im right in saying has only not survived a handfull of times in the last 30 years. The patches on Ben Nevis do seem to be much larger and prolific this year, there are still several patches surviving. Its usually not until mid October or Early November that the furst sustaining snowfalls come so we will have to wait a while before we can say they have survived, unless there is an unseasonally early dump followed by sustained cold weather. In general the Cairngorms patches are the most likely to survive due to their more easterly possition and lower humidity and rainfall. The Ben Nevis patches do survive fairly frequently too but have become more marginal in recent decades, there are still at least 3 or 4 patches at leat on Ben Nevis and also patches on Aonach Mor and Aonach Beag.
  23. Yes, was cooler than predicted last nigh. Was 8c in my car themometer (it is actually fairly accurate) at 8:30am this morning, so was probably a degree or so cooler last night.
  24. amazing how last year after the 10th the month did not appear to get any cooler! My daughters Christening was on the 20th September last year and that was a glorious hot day with temperatures of 24 degrees!
  25. I know this thread has sort of died a death with the general consensus that 30c was not "officially" reached but it was reached at "unofficial" sites. Just read the Met offices August summary and quote "London, Cambridge, Holbeach and Coningsby all recorded temperatures around 30 °C on 5th" However I cant find any further information on any of these and what temperatures were reached and whether they are official or not?? Any one got access to info I dont who can help?
