  1. Here in Central England we have had 5 or 6 ground frosts and probably 3 or 4 air frosts over the last 2 weeks, minimum so far on a non scientific car themometer is -3c at 8:30 am.
  2. Maybe todays image will show the snow in Scotland and the Alps? Got plenty on the Lecht! http://www.webcam-ski.com/webcams/interfaces/the-lecht/interface.php?pk_interface=279&m=images&r=panoramique#depart
  3. I have a pair of Ice Cleats which slip over your boot sole and have small metal spikes, nothing like crampons, only a few mm long, bought them in Canada 11 years ago where everyone used them. Never needed them in this country until this winter. I was snowed in and needed to walk a mile up the lane to the main road to be collected by a colleague to get to work. My road is a fairly steep hill, the snow had been packed by 4x4's into a packed snow/sheet ice combination. I have 4 season walking boots but could not grip with them at all, litrally couldn't stand up on the road. I put these cleats on and strolled up the hill with no problems. I deliberately walked on the iciest sections to test them, excellent, no slipping at all. I also used them walking around town as the pavements were a deathtrap. Again, no problem at all, and because the spikes are small you can use them on patches of path and road that have been cleared too. So in my experience well worth getting, although I have had to wait 10 years to have weather bad enough to use them! They are hardly noticeable to use as the rubber used to hold them on just slips over the sole of your shoe. Didn't get any funny looks, more lile admiring ones! Would rather wear them then risk breaking my neck.
  4. By analysing 60 years of snowfall measurements and satellite data, researchers concluded the anomalous weather conditions were caused by an unusual combination of an El Nino event and the rare occurrence of a strongly negative North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-11152077
  5. Braemar had a minimum of 3.0c yesterday, thats pretty autumnal, no where near as cold here but a nip in the air in the mornings this week!
  6. sorry im late, totally forgot! im going for 16.7c
  7. a Small patsh of snow from my neighbours igloo is still remaining from the first week in Jan, as others have said still a few man made partches remain from snow clearing at schools and supermakets etc.
  8. We had a 11 days of snow cover in South Northants going by the 50% rule. Thats 19 this winter so far, not bad for half way through winter! We still have some snow patches and the neighbours igloo has collapsed but there is still a 4ft heap of snow.
  9. had an inch of Snow overnight in Western Northants, added to the 6 inches from last week. Just when the roads were improving over the weekend this morning they were worse then they were on Friday.
  10. all sorts off warnings this morning, most of which had us in the firing line, had 15 minutes of light flurry and thats it, if anything its made things worse as the white frost has now gone so not even looking wintry. Looking at the radar looks like we will miss out tonight too - Rubbish
  11. anyone know what the coldest daily max is in the UK? The reason i ask is that Tulloch bridge in the Highlands was -8.5c at 10am this morning and down to -15c at 4pm. Not sure what it was overnight but certainly well below freezing, a max of -8.5c must be close to a record for the UK? Any info Mr Data??
  12. ooops, think I totally forgot doh! I will go for 4.9c
  13. I will go for a popular figure 7.5c please
  14. 7th overall for the year! excellent considering I have very little knowledge and all my guesses are just that, guesses based on about 1 minutes research each month!
