  1. I know they said a dusting but didn't expact this much. Wonder how long it will last at thia time of year?
  2. As I type its snowing here in North Essex so we are definitely north of the snow line. Windy and bright with steady snow blowing in the wind.
  3. Good observation. Heavy snow here in North Essex with accumulation and certainly not what I was expecting. It currently 0.2c outside from a high of 8c this morning so very impressive considering 850's of - 1c.
  4. As ever John, thank you for your contribution. I think your correct for higher elevations if the low approached as currently modeled. It does seem however there has been a trend for this low to be shunted into France and therefore this option is looking less likely. I wish we could get the battle ground situations like you guys do over in Canada!
  5. Currently we have the heaviest snow of the whole period. Oddly however, depsite 850's of -9c the ground is still asbove freezing and snow is quite wet and only settling on grass and trees. My lowest temperature of this whole cold spell has ony been -0.7c and that was twenty minutes ago before the snow arrived.
  6. Changing between 100% snow and sleet/drizzle. Temp now 0.9c so falling quickly. I am under -4 850's so surprised those further east aren't reporting snow.
  7. It has been a wetter than expected morning but temp has fallen steadily from 3.1 c to 1.1 c and falling. First very wet and large flakes beginning to fall in north Essex now with slush accumulating on windscreens.
  8. About 2 - 3cm on top of the remaining 10cm snow. We have had at least 5cm of snow on the ground for nearly two weeks now so impressive for my lifetime. As I look out the windows we still have 100 % snow coverage but. That will all change over the next 24hrs.
  9. Where did you see that - would love to know as nephew ended up with 5 stitches on Monday after coming off the sledge.
  10. We were lucky and have received approx 7cm of snow here in North Essex so it sounds like the BBC and Meto were spot on with their predictions. They were also very clear to mention it would be wet snow or sleet further south.
  11. Starting to see things now firming up to an extended settled spell the further SE you are. Having watched the evolution being pushed further and further west is of great comfort, So often we used to see atlantic breakdowms modelled a few days away only to be deflected by the strong high to the east. We are now looking at a warm spell starting tomorrow and going well into the middle of next week. I would be surprised if those showers / rain ven reach the east.
  12. Lightning every 15 seconds or so. Very impressive as it illuminates the cloud structure. The storm just inland are now exploding into life.
  13. I just drove past the farm that was hit. Lots and lots of proper tornado damage - at least 20 trees down and bark stripped of the majority of the trees. A barn has been totally destroyed. This was the storm passed through here at 3.50pm and you can see the radar image from that time is pretty lively! I tried to get photos but its quite a busy road. Definately worth a look.
  14. What the hell is up with the radar again? Everything in a line from Cambridge to Felixstowe is shown as light when ofcourse it isn't. The Meto need to sort these regular false/inaccurate returns out if they are going to sell the Radar product to organisations such as Net Weather.
  15. I am very near Cavendish which has already been mentioned so I don't dispute my reading taken this morning at 7.25am. -16.9c is most definately the coldest temperature I have experienced in the UK.
  16. Well we bottomed out at -16.9c here in North Essex. Never seen anything like it in my location and my neighbour says its never got below freezing in Conservatory which is heated and it did last night. The river Colne is completely frozen over despite running quite quickly under the ice. Its still - 9.5c in the back garden.
  17. -14.8 c now, must be a couple of degrees lower in the field below our house.
  18. Interesting to see that the really cold temps are being reported in North West Essex into Cambridgeshire. These areas have had the deepest snowfall for around 6 days now so this must be a facter. I now have a temp of -14.2c which is truly exceptional considering my garden is sheltered and the sensore is approx 8m from the house.
  19. I thought I would just pop in here from all the way down south in Essex. Its exceptionally cold here, for this part of the world anyway. Its now -13c and still falling with snow cover for over a week. So often I am jealous of your winter weather but for once it looks like you guys are mild. Shame really as I was hoping to come skiing in Scotland in the half term but it doesn't look worth it.
  20. And still the temperature continues to drop at approx 1c per hour! Now -13c outside. The temperature probe is located 1.1m above the ground. I have calibrated it with another electronic thermometer in both the freezer and outside. I wonder how low it will get?
