  1. It's clouding over in Leeds but no flakes yet. The shower is steadily dying but has made it past York. Bitterly cold outside and very icy.
  2. The shower is losing intensity but may make it in it's last breath! There does seem to be a line behind the initial burst so something may make it as far as Leeds.
  3. Looking on the radar, it appears that there is a shower heading directly for the Leeds area - currently just to the north of York. Let's hope it doesn't fizzle out before it gets into West Yorkshire!
  4. Hopefully another inch or so to level off all those footprints etc. from the past couple of days! I'm not too hopeful of snow reaching me in Cleckheaton to be honest, but it would be a nice surprise.
  5. I now reckon it will miss West Yorkshire. It is heading towards Doncaster and South Yorkshire.
  6. I hope you are right. Snow is a bugger to drive in and I am a bit fed up of having to constantly dig out the car to drive for 2 hours to travel 10 miles, but I can't get enough of the stuff!
  7. The band of showers over Hull looks to be moving westwards quite quickly. Will they last until West Yorkshire? If so, it looks like there could be a few heavy falls in the next hour or two!
  8. Very heavy snow now with large flakes is a swirling wind. Slowing down now, with a clearance to the north east. Looking at the radar this will be the last of the snow for a while now in Leeds.
  9. Snowing in Holbeck too. Looking on the radar, shouldn't last too long though!
  10. Snowfall last night in Cleckheaton area was approx 1 inch. I didn't measure it but it was to the second joint on my index finder! This was taken from on top of my car which was totally clear of snow last night. Sorry - postcode area is BD19 / WF15 border
  11. I can see snow in the distance to the east of Leeds but nothing over the centre.
  12. Been snowing in Leeds centre for about 5 minutes but now clearing away.
  13. There must have been at least an inch of new snow last night on top of the 5-6 inches that fell yesterday in Cleckheaton. This came as a surprise as I wasn't expecting any fresh snow, never mind another inch! In Leeds there also appears to have been at least another inch of fresh snow over night. Looking on the radar, it appears that there could be a few showers over here in the next hour or so.
  14. There have been over 125 school closures in Kirklees alone and many are expected to stay shut tomorrow. Schools now have a policy of not removing any snow or ice to prevent any "where there's blame there's a claim" parents suing if their little tinkerbell falls on a partially cleared path. Not cleared at all = school not liable Attempted clearance = school liable
  15. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8441408.stm Some BBC video footage of snow in Leeds, Stockport and Manchester.
  16. Stopped snowing now in Leeds. That makes it almost 9 hours of continuous snowfall. I can't see depths from my office window, but the car park had about 2 inches at 10.30 so I'm guessing it will have doubled by now.
  17. The wind appears to have eased again here, but the fine powdery snow just keeps on falling. Looking on the radar, what are the chances of the heavy showers towards Newcastle/Middlesbrough making it inbto West Yorkshire this evening?
  18. The wind seems to have picked up in the last half hour or so with snow blowing around Holbeck (Leeds). It's fine powdery snow but the amounts are mounting up with some small drifts now been produced.
  19. Really heavy here in Leeds now with big flakes. Could we reach the magic 1 foot of snow in West Yorkshire today?
  20. There is snow on all pavements in Leeds City Centre, but the footfall of pedestrians is compacting it and casuing some melting. It's slippy now, but when it freezes tonight it will be trecherous! Back home in Cleckheaton we had a light dusting of snow overnight, but then the real snow started at about 6.30am and hasn't stopped since according to my wife. A rough measurement of 6 inches has been taken by her and my son (who is off school [again!] today). Here in Leeds the snow is light and powdery but hasn't stopped all morning. Very little traffic around, although considering it took over 2 hours for me this morning, is not surprising. Unfortunately my work will not let any one go until the official home time.
  21. Is it just me, or has the forecasting by the Met Office and BBC been terrible recently (ITV is always terrible!)? They didn't forecast the 6 inches of snow we got on Christmas Eve (Cleckheaton / Heckmondwike areas). More recently the temperatures in this area have barely been below freezing, with rain rather than the sub zero temperatures and snow. Almost all the snow and ice has now melted (bar the corpses of snowmen) and we have had rain again this morning. It is now grey and dull and doesn't "feel" like it will snow any time soon despite the weather warning for further snow which in place by the Met Office. Do the weather men ever look outside any more or do they simply only rely on their computers to tell them what should be happening?
  22. I don't think there is as much as in Feb, going by how well the car is buried. But the speed at which the snow is falling is is surprising. It has covered a path that I only cleared and salted 30 minutes ago. If (when) this starts to freeze it will get very interesting out on the roads!
  23. Been through Heckmondwike and there is heavy snow there too. Gildersome/Birstall also getting heavy snow about an hour ago when driving through. It was a different world in Leeds city centre at Lunchtime - never expected it to snow today!
