The sun is finally beginning to break through the murk. Temperatures are already rising and it feels very sweaty out there.

Well we are now up to a scorching 16C with a DP of 15C. Still misty but is getting a bit brighter.

The convection over north Wales ties in with the convergence zone that is apparent on XC weather where the winds are coming in from the east, south and west. This area isn't really in the Met Office warnings - could this area spawn some showers or storms today?

It's actually quite chilly here today. Currently 13C and foggy with occasional drizzle. Feel more autumnal that the hottest day of the year! Just a few miles away over the pennines Manchester airport is on 25C - amazing how this bank of cloud is affecting the temperatures. I have high hopes for storms this week. It seems like years since we had a good storm!

Well, what a weekend it was! I've never experienced snow that deep. The snow was too deep for sledging so went walking and found snow drifts 10ft+ high. Probably dangerous, but really good to stand at the top of a wall or visible surface near the drift and then jump into the snow! Never had snow up to my chest before (I'm 6ft 3)! Plenty of snow left on the ground and some whopper icicles. Leeds centre is like another world with just a dusting in comparison. However the largest icicles I've seen were under the Woodhouse Lane car park on the inner ring road. Easily 3ft long and thick - dread to think what damage they could do to a car travelling at 40mph if they fell.

Possibly an over exaggeration! But its the best snow of the winter.

It isn't just hilly areas. I have 6 inches on car roof. Most areas west of Leeds are getting buried. Kirklees, calderdale and Bradford areas are all expected to get much more snow overnight.

An interloper from Yorkshire..... you are in a dry gap that covers a chunk of the map between Sheffield and Macclesfield. The gap is almost filled so snow will be there soon.

Dandruff in Leeds now. The hills over Morley way are slowly disappearing from view which can only be a good sign!

The gap is almost closed for those in West and South Yorkshire. West of the M1 seems certain to get snow whereas those towards the east may have to wait a bit longer. The roads in Leeds centre are almost dry due to the strong winds which should make any snow falling settle easier than if the ground were sodden.

Yes, I think it's just a matter of time. It's amazing how quickly the gaps are filling in.

Looking at the radar the gaps in the East Midlands are filling in and the two fronts are becoming one. This is particularly visible in a line that roughly follows the M1. We are currently in one of the few remaining dry gaps but in a couple of hours the precipitation looks likely to return. So far the met office predictions have been quite good.

Ankle deep snow at home today, schools closed and cars struggling. Get to work in Leeds dressed in my winter woollies, wellies etc. and find that there is no snow on any roads or pavements. Feel like a complete fool walking through town; over-dressed to say the least! People east of Leeds have had nothing whilst west of Leeds there are inches and inches of snow. Makes a change for the west of the region to have the most snow. Looking forwards to this evening and over night. All signs point to quite a large snowfall for some areas. Definitely sledging in the morning with my son! Growing up in the 80's/90's I never dreamed of winters where I could sledge in late March.

A squally shower with hail and thunder just whizzed through Leeds centre. Quite impressive for 5 minutes. Quiet again now.

The front is really pepping up in the Irish Sea now, particularly just to the South of Dublin which hopefully has Yorkshire's name written all over it!

To be fair the city does cope well. Those that are right on the riverbank were built 100's of years ago with flooding in mind. They have stone floors and can cope. Agree though about new builds; too many people start crying about their plight when it is so obvious that the house is built on a flood plain.

The heavy rain and rapid thaw will undoubtedly see parts of the region flooded. What's the betting York is underwater again by the end of next week?

Yes, I'm just about old enough to remember the mid 80's and the frontal Atlantic heavy snowfalls bygone years brought but recently all the snow seems to have come from the south or east through showery activity rather than full on attacks. It heralds the end of this cold spell but I can't complain. I've had: Snow on the ground for over a week Deep snow (almost too deep to sledge in!) Temperatures barely above freezing for almost 2 weeks Freezing fog Long lasting large icicles Day off work due to snow and now an anticipated Atlantic driven snowfall Not bad really!

I agree - unlike last weeks' dry snow I think that this evenings event will be large "wet" flakes that stick to everything. Much better to watch when it is falling from the sky!

The area that is looking likely to hit parts of Yorkshire is currently over Cork and Waterford in Ireland. Looking at the radar loop it is clear that the band is intensifying with some very strong echoes now appearing. The gaps in the band are also staring to fill as the 2nd front catches up with the 1st weaker front. I don't want to count my chickens but it does look like we will get some very heavy snow out of this event if the intensity maintains.

A good decision as the A62 is blocked from Birstall right back through to Huddersfield. Strange this is that motorways are empty - most of the queuing is caused by BMW's that can't cope in the snow with their rear wheel drive!

Over 2 1/2 hrs to get the 10 miles into Leeds. Motorways were completely clear, just the side roads jammed. No Arriva buses at all and many others cancelled or running short. Most schools shut and lots of people taking the day off. We got just about 10cam last night and its still coming down. Leeds centre not as much but still 4 or 5 cm which isn't bad for a built up area.
