Getting reports M62 is shut over the top, that doesn't happen very often
Yes apparently a snow plough has got stuck!

How far North will the band of snow get today? At 7am the northern edge was Kettering. At 9am it's now Leicester. Slow progress, but could hit the region this afternoon if it doesn't fizzle out.
-
Radar fading now as winds swing from more South easterly direction. Had far more snow than imagined earlier this week.

Neighbour set off to work at 630. Struggled up road. Has now returned after getting stuck on a very slight incline. Waste of time attempting to go anywhere.

Anyone noticed how the BBC main forecast hasn't even mentioned us!!!! Its all about the south and scotland!
The calendar weather didn't show anything on his map. The trouble is they are reliant on computer models which have proved useless with showers. They need some human input which sadly is lacking.

and yet a yellow warning still in place! lots of surprises in store for alot today!
Yellow warnings until Saturday for most of the region. Easterly winds into next week. I'd imagine snow on most days.

Woke up to blizzards. Loads more snow, drifting, giant icicles. Radar still looks loaded with snow. Great day indeed!

A lot of these showers seem to be losing the intensity now. But can’t complain regarding today it’s been fantastic. Just a shame I never got a snow day.
Yes, they seem to be decaying as they reach further inland. Still lots of snow around but maybe not as many mini blizzards.
-
Next round incoming! Should hopefully be another hour of snow with this band of showers.
-
Just re-reading the yellow warnings from earlier valid now and tomorrow... they are for 5 to possibly 15cm on each day. So conceivably met office are warning of 30 cm for weds/Thurs in the yellow area. I hadn't realised this earlier so we shouldn't be surprised at the continuous showers. Good times!

Is this better ....one quick big dollop of snow, or maybe like the ecm and have a more southerly low and an extra week of easterly winds and showers? Not sure which id pick, would love 40-50cm in one go, but do like the idea of prolonged cold.

Bit of a dry gap upcoming for Kirklees area. That stream of showers near Selby looks promising with some farms radar reflections indicating heavier bursts.
-
All signs of movement on roads and pavements have now disappeared under fresh snow. Ice covered in snow everywhere, this is going to lay for days and be treacherous. -5C here with what looks like quite a bit more snow to come.

We are getting battered by shower after shower in kirkless at moment. Main roads absolutely covered.
Looks like there could be more on the way too. Good night of radar watching ahead.

Wow, proper arctic conditions!

Blob incoming.... blizzard here now. Can't see more than a few metres down the street.

Hmm if you look at showers on radar and cloud on sat24, you can clearly see that all showers associated with that large area of flat cloud (west of holland) are all scattered, small and light as opposed to the towering cumous further north west of it, not sure Im liking that.
I am less concerned now the wind direction has changed slightly. There is also evidence of showers developing in the empty area, see met office radar below....

Why do we not have an amber warning out? If these intensify the whole region will take a hammering!
I don't care about warnings anymore. Seems when an Amber is issued the chance of extreme weather decreases!

Just been for a walk. Absolutely deadly on pavements. Ice everywhere. Roads not too bad but I could barely stand on doorways.
-
Radar pepping up again over North sea. Good news for the region!

Would that purely depend on the wind staying E or E/NE direction now then for the majority to keep the showers coming in? Keeping the dry air to south of us, sort of!!
Cheers
I think we need it to be more North easterly to get the best result. Not sure what is forecast.

Tell them to get the train... would be madness to try m62 in these conditions!
