Wouldn't it be more tedious and boring the closer to average it was?
So if conditions are a long way off, above, or below average, the less tedious it must be.
Excellent post.
Hope this attitude catches on instead of the ridiculous practise of praising a three month forecast on the very first day just because it promises the hot weather that you seek.
They certainly are.
The onset of August coincides with a sunset of 21.00 for my location, always a milestone on the journey to summer's exit and a taster for the joys of autumn.
Some late haymaking going on down the road from here.
I imagine they'll be straight on to the corn next week, it's ripened quickly in this week's sunshine.
I used to love that Lake District weather.
Before we had our dog we used to stay in a lovely hotel in Staveley but more often than not we'd have dry sunny weather.
The "attitude" that you refer to is my response to someone telling me that I have no excuse for not getting out and enjoying weather that I don't like and he does.
I'm not "snapping" at those enjoying the sunshine it's aimed at those telling me what I'm supposed to like.
Hope that's clear.
That's like having a bet at the races and saying what a good one it is, just because you like the horse, before you know whether it's won or come nearer last.
Glad I've booked this week off if the warm-up's next week.
I dug out the holes and concreted in 6 x 8' concrete fence posts and gravel boards in my garden today. If it had been any warmer, or especially any more humid, I don't think i'd have completed it.
I suppose it was inevitable at some stage that the boring HP would dominate.
On the plus side, the likely clearer skies should accentuate the effect of the reduction in daylight hours during August so that should be enjoyable.
No mention of the Mid-West here:

unless you mean Somerset?
As the number of experts were mentioned earlier, did anyone follow the expert climatologist advice from about ten years ago to sew drought-resistant plants?
If you did, could you let us know what sort of a year they're having?
"While we didn't find evidence that climate change has affected the odds of all the extreme weather events we looked at, we did see that some events were significantly more likely. Overall we're seeing that human influence is having a marked impact on some types of extreme weather."
In other words:
"Despite desperate searching we just couldn't see what we wanted to see but managed to convince ourselves that it's definitely in there somewhere.
Can we have a much bigger research grant please?"
